Florida "don't say gay"

The younger the kid the more obvious the lesson. Most children have a mommy and a daddy. They don't need to know about Uncle Steven and his boyfriend.

It does. But now a teacher may not discuss his or her marriage or family within the classroom if he/she is gay. Books cannot be recommended. School counseling may not be offered. Clarification on a character in a book (should it slip through) may not be discussed. And all of this marginalizes and stigmatizes all lgbtq people and issues as well as sets the groundwork that shows a whole new generation that we can simply stamp out anything we don't like.

Sex education - life cycle teaching - happens from birth, or should. Age-appropriate discussions are had all the time. Believe me, kids think nothing of gay/not gay, trans/not trans. Age-appropriate for a 3rd grader means general discussions, which may not be had in Florida schools right now. Maybe if we raised them to normalize it, we could do better with future generations. Because it’s gays and blacks right now down here, but it will be someone else next, and it won’t stop until we stand up and say, “enough.”

Republicans have created the "groomer" narrative and have hurt so many LGBTQ people already with it. Their aim is it to hide our existence from kids in order to keep hatred and ignorance alive and well for them to exploit and gain votes from.

Mentioning the marriage between Abe and Mary Lincoln isn't really about heterosexual orientation. Neither is mentioning the marriage between Elton John and David Furnish really about homosexual orientation.

Ah...but the error of your logic is that you are not taking into account that if one racist homophobic party controls the state and the states courts.........then words like "fair" or "equitable" is meaningless.

What makes you think they are discussing heterosexual sexual orientation?

You joke - but this is a serious question. I don't see how one can write or enforce such a law without being discriminatory. Maybe that is what the Florida GOP wants - to discriminate? I'm sure Florida parents would be up in arms if their kid told them they learned about Elton's husband in school, but wouldn't give a crap if their kid told them they learned about Pat Nixon.

In the animal kingdom, Homosexuality occurs in aggressive species such as baboons, bisons, giraffes and chimpanzees.

Sounds about right to me, but the regressive Florida legislature won't understand.
