I read this yesterday about pro-control/ pro-forced births. What do you think about it?

Here’s the thing

It doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter when life begins.

It doesn’t matter whether a fetus is a human being or not.

That entire argument is a red herring, a distraction, a subjective and unwinnable argument that could not matter less.

It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about a fertilized egg or a fetus, or a baby or a five-year-old, or a Nobel Prize-winning pediatric oncologist.

NOBODY has the right to use your body, against your will, even to save their life, or the life of another person.

That’s it.

That’s the argument.

You cannot be forced to donate blood, marrow, or organs, even though hundreds of thousands die every year on waiting lists.

They cannot even harvest your organs after your death without explicit, written, pre-mortem permission.

Denying women the right to an abortion means we have less bodily autonomy than a corpse.

It rings true, and it's a ruse with deep tradition among conservatives and those who would seek to maintain power.

Those in power have long, long been white men. They've stayed in power through misogyny and prejudice. You can call that CRT or history or whatever you like, but it's the truth. To that end, they find smaller channels like tributaries on a river through which to funnel their brand of oppression; marriage rights, rights that would extend to minorities, liberties that offer more voting power to the wrong kinds of groups. All channels lead to the same sea - power through misogyny and prejudice.

Unfortunately, the destination of this argument is as simple as the embarkation - conservatives just don't care that we know what they're up to. As long as they get away with it, they need no platform on which to argue the issue.

@Randi1125 (Thought you ghosted me. 👻) Beginning to seriously look into Spain or Italy. I'd try Denmark in a heartbeat, but it's really, really, cold. I'd need a summer getaway. Or a pit of eternal fire. But what I'd give up for a quality of life is substantial.

We're truly beginning to legislate this country right into the past, and it's not hyperbole; it happens every few centuries. Whatever happened to waking up, saying hello to your neighbors and then spending the whole rest of the day not giving a good godd*mn what they do on their own time? Or is it that we actually buy into the fear-mongering and pandering?

@Graylight

Haha!! I would never ghost you. I've been a busy lil bee.

Ahh, Spain is beautiful. The small towns are the best; Benalmadena, Calpe, Frigiliana, Segovia, and Setenil de las Bodegas are my favorites. I was in Sevilla last May for a wedding. While there we took a day trip to Cordoba. It took us an hour and a half to get there. So worth it and so underrated! It was during Fiesta de Los Patios so the city was exceptionally beautiful. So yes, I agree with you. I’m in for the move.

And then there’s Italy. I spent 6 months there in 2019 and still wasn’t able to see everything. It goes without saying that Positano, Venice, Tuscany, Capri, Lake Como, and Milan are the hottest tourist spots. Well, there are many others. But if you want to visit and you’re on a budget, I recommend Calabria. You will be blown away by the crystal clear waters. It's on the coast for the ancient history, natural reserves, and artisanal culture. Look for it on a map and you will see it's between the island of Sicily and Basilicata but also really close to Puglia so the climate is really warm. It's beautiful but under-hyped so it's not visited as much. The truth is it’s one of the poorest regions in Italy and one of the most underdeveloped as well so there’s less tourism which makes it cheap. If you’re okay with things being a little rougher around the edges compared to the more touristic Americanized places, you will love it. Absolutely beautiful, the people are really friendly, and the food and culture are amazing. I’m in for the move with this one as well.

You already know I love Denmark.

Hmmm, I suggest Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Randi1125 Hmm, maybe a small place in each location? Or one really great place with holidays elsewhere? I could honor the Danish in me a discover roots (The Viking who Didn't Love the Cold). Or I could spend an eternal summer learning proper Spanish. Ah, but the richness of life in Italy... And then there's Greece, Malta, even the Eastern European countries.

It just occurred again to me that for the brave or slightly foolish, the world is wide open. Rock, paper and scissors.

very few seem to grasp or are willing to say up front that draconian religious belief -- not just pertaining to women's "roles" but superstitions about the universe more broadly that are considered sacrosanct -- is the real basis of the abortion issue. Anti-abortion legislation is ultimately based on theological arguments rather than objective facts. Religious belief only works on a very personal level; to try to scale it as all-encompassing national policy is folly. That's why the GOP's ongoing dalliance with right-wing evangelicals will eventually bite all of us in the ass -- themselves, included.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@Randi1125 they're about 75% complete with the murder at this point
Khenpal1 · M
@Randi1125 I absolutely hate how politicized this issue has become. It happened because four justices committed perjury, so no, not a due and legal process. They knowingly lied about their intentions. The three appointed by TFG were put on the court for this express purpose. It’s delusional to pretend otherwise. it’s going to lead to this:
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@Khenpal1

Yes! We all knew they lied, didn't we? There's so much more to it as well. They don't care about the children once they're born. It's never been about life. It's always been about feeding capitalism/the prison industrial complex. Quality of life doesn't matter if it makes money. All they want is more brainwashed fools to toil their lives away so that they can line their pockets. It’s also a voting platform for them and more money for the churches!

Pro lifers are a nasty bunch, I see them as no different than rapists for the fact that sex is often coercion. Note: I'm not saying sex IS coercion but that coercion is sometimes apart of relationships and both men/women can do it to each other. The thing that I believe is that as long as coercion exists, abortion should be a fundamental right. Sometimes men DO sleep with women under false pretenses and sometimes women want to get pregnant under false pretenses (to keep the man around.) Sometimes it's incest or actual assault, sometimes it's not.

So with that said, here comes pro lifers shaming people for getting abortions knowing nothing about the actual circumstances of said relationship, they are no different than coercive people and therefore exactly the same as rapists. They want control over our private parts, they want in there and they want to forcefully dictate our lives by force. This is basically rape.
Fukfacewillie · 51-55, M
@Randi1125 Not that pragmatic considerations would matter, but how do these often poor Red states plan on dealing with more poverty, needs for social services, etc?

What about children born with severe deformities, or Downs syndrome? They will need care from the state their whole lives, and more young women will be on welfare. Since these red states despise social programs, it just going to create a lot of misery.
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@Fukfacewillie

I know! It's mind-boggling. It's easy to root for the unborn because it costs them nothing, no reflection, risk, or investment of time beyond their keyboard. These unwanted pregnancies are going to force children into the foster care system, into poverty, and trauma. But they don't care. They don't want to give these children financial assistance, proper education, healthcare, free school lunches, it just goes on and on. Disgusting.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Randi1125 I've never thought about being incubators but that would add up with corporate culture and the way schools are set up for that type of mindset. Too much to get into but would explain a lot. That's actually really sinister.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Human dignity and the right of women to have the same autonomy over their bodies as men do is more important than individual religious conviction. The forthcoming clash is likely to destroy the authority of the Supreme Court and further undermine the rule of law in the land of the free.
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@SunshineGirl

Exactly!! If they're so concerned about the life of unwanted babies, there's a simple solution: Make every male get a reversible vasectomy at puberty. This would end unwanted pregnancies.... problem solved.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Randi1125 Yep, to my mind that is a reasonable and less offensive solution.
SW-User
yup the pro life guys have such a rapey vibe
Fukfacewillie · 51-55, M
@SW-User Indeed. I think they deeply resent female sexuality.
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@SW-User They really do.
Torsten · 36-40, M
NOBODY has the right to use your body, against your will, even to save their life, or the life of another person.

only when it seems to come to women though right? How many bullied and harassed others about not getting the covid vaxx and supported them losing their jobs and freedom? where was the my body my choice crowd than? oh right, supporting peoples rights over their bodies being taken away 🤷‍♂️

One good thing out of all this though is people suddenly remember what a woman is again
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@Torsten HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Someone has their panties in a wad. If you don't have control issues, I dare you to actually "be done" and STFU.
@Torsten Fine, we keep abortion legal and you don’t have to get the jab, you big crybaby.

Im on the fence. 🤔
I believe life begins at conception. Period.
BUT, I also respect a women's right to chose.
Reverse of RvW will ultimately set us back 50, 75 years where backally coathangers were used.
We'll just have to pray that the Justices use their wisdom in final decision making, along with their conscious. 🙏😇
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Montanaman Fair enough, that you did. My question for you - and this is a genuine one - is how do we bridge that gap? Most "pro-choice" people don't encourage or enjoy abortions; it's about autonomy, they'll fight for it. Most who think life begins at conception are immovable on the point. So where's the middle ground where everyone can live? Preventing? Education? Programs? Until we find answers, all we have are problems, you know?
Montanaman · M
@Graylight im not even sure its possible. Im unique and also my stance is thus unique. I just believe it's a personal choice.
Graylight · 51-55, F

Hopefully, this generation can vote enough to change the old white men's decisions that have kept the US in a shit show.

This argument is lame af.

@Randi1125 Yeah because I really want to waste my time talking to you on insta 😂

Whatever bot.
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@SW-User I will not respond to you with the same sarcasm that you spew. I sincerely feel sorry for you. I hope you get help.
SW-User
@Randi1125 k then
That’s exactly what it means. And it means we’ll go back to having as little right to call ourselves "The Land of The Free" as when actual slavery was legal here. 😳
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard

You're right. We all know what ‘making America great again‘ means. Oppression. Oppression via making the teaching of black US history illegal, making women's choices illegal, making same-sex marriages illegal, making contraception illegal, making interracial marriages illegal, etc.. That’s a lot of control over OTHER people’s lives...
Randi1125 · 31-35, F
@RosaMarie So very true
@Randi1125 Brought to you by the party who claims to want "smaller government"—just small enough to fit in people’s bedrooms and womens’s uteruses.
redredred · M
Can they mandate a vaccine?
@redredred Fine, we keep abortion legal nationwide and you don’t have to get the jab, you fucking crybaby.

@redredred It's OK if you're afraid of needles. Your parents forced you to get vaccinated when you were a kid, so you're making up for it now because you're an adult and no one can force you anymore.

So you're not really a libertarian if you think it's OK for the government to force women to give birth at gunpoint because some fundamentalist religious types get off on that. Scratch a libertarian hard enough and you eventually find the authoritarian statist.
