SO very well put, there's no need to be agressive, abusive, shouting someone down just because they have a different opion to you but sadly with the current crop of policitions who do it other people seem to think its OK to do.

The tories have mastered the trick of playing people of against people, clas against class, race against race, young against old, etc, etc so the ill-feeling is there boiling away.

Some people need to rememeber to treat others with resepct, kindness and consideration of thier feelings and to think IF they would like to be treated in that mannar.

I wish I knew. I certainly don't understand the true personal [i]venom[/i] that comes from some that don't even know the other person they are talking to.

What is really disturbing is watching the broad brush type insults from someone you just had a really great conversation about something you do have in common.

This is a first for me, and I’ve voted in every U.S. presidential election since 1980. It’s the first time I’ve [b]ever[/b] seen supporters of the president as enemies. Mainly because this president has been regularly holding rallies and telling his supporters that the rest of us [b]are[/b] enemies of the country. I don’t harass them and I’m not particularly nasty to them. I actually tend to avoid them. They can’t justify supporting a president who is an avowed racist and misogynist, unless they agree with his point of view. And since I imagine they must, I don’t want to hear about it. And I make no apologies for feeling that way. 🙁

Well... on one hand there is something to be said for passion which no matter where or how it is applied has its downsides. Having a passion for anything can easily be declared an obsession. Yet, passion is often something to which humans aspire and encouraged to experience.

On the other hand, if you take a heartfelt belief, whether it's religious or spiritual, hobby-oriented, family focused, romantically engaged, or politically-based there is going to be conflict when you introduce an opinion that contradicts that belief. That isn't really surprising.

Advising others to keep their passions in check is easy, but when it's your own regardless if the passion is spiritual, hobby-oriented, family focused, romantically engaged, or political, it's not so easy. And, when two contradicting passions come to a head-on-collision you get the dynamic of which you speak.

It takes self-discipline and self-restraint to pull back. And, most people don't want to put the effort into exercising those qualities.

You are right there... but unfortunately when one tries to talk to people of certain political views, it's impossible to have a civilised debate as they just hurl insults... so I must admit, I just insult them too now.. A catch 22 situation but yes in an ideal world there would be more civilised discussion

Self opinionated people who have no regard for opposing views is a summing up of most of the politicians on the planet.So you can expect that the people that profess to be up to speed with current affairs and follow these people will be of a similar ilk😟
