So what about music?

Has anyone noticed that the younger generation loves older music? I have. What are your thoughts on this?
NewRaven · 51-55, F
Well truly good music is timeless
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@NewRaven agreed... I love me some o Jay's, bee gees, dolly Parton, rolling stones, guns and roses, temptations to name a few
NewRaven · 51-55, F
@Mellowgirl yep, me too!
fun4us2b · M
This reminds me of a group of 20 somethings in front of me at a Fleetwood Mac concert and how they knew every lyric.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
Because most of today's music is crap
Selah ·
Streaming changed the way music is consumed. Older music is more accessible.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Selah And sadly two generations have grown up not knowing the joy of finding a gem among the dross in a record store.
Personally I love market stalls and charity shops for this exact reason
Iwantyourhotwife · 22-25
After witnessing modern songs, I can see why
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Better music back then. More artists, more people willing to make music for the sake of music and not to make money.

I looked at the grammy nominations for last year and there was not one "rock" band in the mix. It was all pop, hip-hop and international artists.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@SumKindaMunster You have to go to alternative rock and stations to get anything creative.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
When my children were young they used to love going through my singles and albums.
I think if they liked the sleeve they wanted to hear it.

Then as they started to choose their own music much of it was chart stuff before they figured out the stuff they liked.

These days with so many samples of older tunes used for Dance or Trance music they all ask if I have the original
They have class. There is hope for them yet!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I worked in a dorm and yes the students would often play some decades old music. One morning a co-ed was playing the soundtrack from The Graduate like she just discovered it. Another student would play Prince music almost every day. And some loved Bob Dylan and Bob Marley too. Good music never really goes out of style.
rfatoday · 61-69, M
I have noticed this. Actually, way back to 1986 when I saw Genesis at the Oakland Colosseum. Parents and teens together! Great sight and good crowd as I recall. Barely lol.

Probably 10 years prior was the "generation gap", where parents thought Lawrence Welk was the bomb and the Rolling Stones were the kiss of death for young people.
Good music will always have an audience. Doesnt matter what type of music it is.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
I have pondered this before and believe it is just a filtering process. Every year a hundred or more songs are released, chart, and fade into obscurity. A few survive, most are forgotten. Over many years it is the better selections which accumulate in our collections. Pick a random year and pull up the Billboard top 100 for that year. See how many you remember or have heard recently.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Until I show up then they play the worst stuff you ever heard. 😖
Nanoose · 61-69, M
When my sons were in their teens they would call my rock music Old Fuddy Duddy music. Now a days they listen to it and enjoy it. When we were raising them my biggest fear was them turning into country music fans like their mother but they didn't - so long live rock. Cheers!
kodiac · 22-25, M
I got lucky ,my friends dad was a dj at a classic rock station. I would spend all day there listening to the best old stuff . My friend thought i was weird for hanging out with his dad lol . People my age still think my music taste is weird .

I'm the older/oldest generation around here and I grew up loving "older" music recorded even before I was born.
@ChipmunkErnie So did I, actually. 😄
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
Yes I am very aware of this and they have varied tastes.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I have always been a fan of the oldies myself.

I think it's great. Both my 21 year old daughter and 16 year old son at times will stream and listen to music from the 70's and 80's, which was from my era. I have some 50's music on my playlist from my parents' generation.
I have noticed that yes. Good music stays good and also a lot of shows like Stranger Things, which was hugely popular also featured old music.
Hi, im younger generation and I do indeed love older music from before my time. Music today is just trash and I cant vibe with it.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I know a young lady that listens to the same stuff I did when I was her age or younger, it blows my mind! Some however are clueless.
MartinII · 70-79, M
Of course they do, if they have been educated. But I’m guessing you don’t mean Haydn or Beethoven.
It makes sense since the younger generations grew up on the interwebs. We're much better at finding old media.

Yes just last week I got mugged by some 3rd graders for my Scott Joplin piano sheet music.
i think the younger generation is gay
