I enjoy the psychological and especially horror/mystery, with little-to-no supernatural elements.( trap, blink twice, saltburn, midsommar etc)
Although it had SN elements, one of my all time faves (because of the horror metaphors) is the Ring - for instance when Rachel goes into the well and retrieves Samaras real corpse, the way the movies depicts how Rachel sees a sleeping little girl in her arms(sentiment) but the audience sees a skeleton(reality) , is a methaphor for me for how i look into my old dead relationships.
Hannah from that series 13 reasons would have done herself a favour to learn from the ring, about how to get over old bullies and rapists, you dont need 13 audio cassette tapes and months to hope people get you. Nah. Just 1 tape, 7 days and they understand you all the way to their last breath.
I enjoy watching someone else's life fall apart in psychologic horrors it makes me feel better about my real life horror story that it could be a movie too.

@AngelUnforgiven Salt burn is listed by wiki as a black comedy, it is a dark thriller that is dark enough to be called a horror, in my opinion, the term thriller can be done away with. The uneasy suspense, and heavy gothic influence and the "horny haunted house" push it over the line into horror territory for me

@Rudboy41 ooh that sounds right up my alley thanks i will try to watch it today.

@AngelUnforgiven cool, i haven't seen it but from the trailer the movie bodies, bodies, bodies reminds me alot of the movie called 'talk to me'

I like the overlap of horror with psychological issues where you can't tell if it's supernatural, fkced up mental health, or a metaphor. I think the shining and hereditary are by far my favourite movies because of this reason.

@assemblingaknob Hereditary was everything! I watched it again recently it was amazing! Identity with John Cusack and High Tension falls under your category.

I like slow burning ghost stories because they are melancholic and creepy, and folk horror like The Wicker Man, Witchfinder General and Midsommar because the horror is inherent in human nature.

@AngelUnforgiven @Richard65 there's a 1989 British TV movie called Woman In Black that fits this category and is exceptionally creepy. There's also a remake but I haven't seen that version.

@robingoodfellow I've seen that, an excellent TV version. That scene where he's resting on the bed and opens his eyes to see the woman floating above him with her face inches from his face still freaks me out. The remake with Daniel Radcliffe is also excellent.

@Richard65 yes that scene freaks me out too! I'll have to check out the other version.

Slasher for fun. Slow-burn supernatural for just plain enjoyment
Body horror is good.

80’s slasher movies

Anything religious creeps me out because it usually involves exorcism. Werewolf movies, and zombies

I'm a pussy, I don't like horror 😂
Vampyr, they never age past turning, heal, nor ever get sick.
