I was working as a waiter and hating every minute of it. But I was in love with a beautiful wonderful woman 12 years younger than me and my poetry and stories were being published in university literary magazine and I had a play produced locally. I suppose it was a good time in my life but what I remember most was how I hated waiting tables.

I was a manager at a local hardware store, in a small rural town. My son could walk across the field from home and be at my work if he needed me. After I left there, I began to volunteer at a drug rehabilitation place, isolated on a rural road. It was for mothers with young children. After they decided to move, I transferred over to the local homeless shelter, and began to work there.

Finished my B. Eng degree in 81 and then joined the Army as a medic, which had nothing to do with my degree. Spent most of the 80's bouncing from one base to another somewhere in the World...

SW-User
@spjennifer Most people do not use their degree directly. Good for you, an ideal time to travel.
spjennifer · 61-69, T
@SW-User Well, you also think very differently when you're 17 and applying for Uni and when you're 22 and have completed your degree. I did travel a lot and saw a lot of the World, then and later.

It was not a tolerant time in England.
We had a government that claimed traditional family values. Which meant their ministers had affairs.
