Do you ever feel that life is passing you by?

I am retired and have the means to enjoy life, but it feels like I am standing at the window watching life pass me by. Do you ever feel like this?
Budwick · 70-79, M
Sorry you are feeling like that Stereo.
That is why I haven't retired.
I suggest you find something to fill your days with interest.
Whether it's volunteering, or a hobby, or something.

I am surprised to hear this since you travel all time in your motorhome.

@Stereoguy Almost, yes, but I think that's because we've never experienced anything like that and the unknown feels very scary to us, so I thank God that He told us in His Word, exactly what would happen to us when we cross over, and how to get to heaven, or I think I would be absolutely terrified, not knowing where I was going to end up at, when I face eternity head on! Thank God, He didn't leave us to guess!! He even came and proved what He said, by His resurrection, where all could see Him ascend back to His father in Heaven. The people need to realize, now is the day of salvation. Now is the time to prepare for eternity because once we cross over, there's no changing our mind.

@saragoodtimes sure there are a few guys help you with that 😏
Now that you have more time on your hands, perhaps you are thinking too much. Or overthinking things. After all, idleness is the devil's workshop. It doesn't take him long to step in and try to depress us. But you have so many talents and have helped so many people, I'm certain you can find something to do and when we help people, it definitely blesses us a thousand times more. And believe it or not, men around your age, do go through a hormonal change, just like women do, so maybe this is what you are experiencing as well. It is a change of life. Almost like a self inventory that we go through, but not to worry. You have plenty of life in you and much more that you can do for the Lord. You are very much needed, wanted, and valuable. Your life now serves as much purpose as it always has. Nothing is lost.❤🤗

Many of my retired friends say the same thing after a couple years. Some were avid golfers who no longer even enjoy golfing after over doing it. I have one friend who is busier now after retirement than before. He's loving it. I have another who sold his business but stays to continue and sell to his past clients on behalf of the new owner.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're also dealing with your wife's health issues. I'm doing the same on an epic scale. I know from personal experience just how devastating that can be. You made all these plans and even though you have the means to deliver on them, it's just not happening.

I'm working. I own three businesses and sometimes I think I must be insane. But I can tell you life is definitely not passing me by. It's stopping at my place, taking a giant dump on my head and then moving on while flipping me off. And that's giving me the motivation to wake up, get out on the field and kick some ass.

You play the hand you're dealt. You just have to play them well. The best to you and your family.

No I feel like I’m more involved in everyday life now than when I was working full time
I spend more time with family and grandkids
I volunteer at Habitat for Humanity
I attend city council meetings
I attend and volunteer at Little League games
Just completed a food drive
Things I didn’t have time to do before
4meAndyou · F
@GJOFJ3 Habitat for humanity volunteer sounds like a great opportunity for a former owner of a construction company! Stereo might like that!

Yes, I feel like I am just wasting away working for nothing.
Iwillwait · M
@LadyGrace Well...I'm in this life clueless, thus if a past life were possible, I was definitely a vegetable.
@Iwillwait I bet you have a lot of talent, that you may not even realize and perhaps have not even discovered yet. I believe everyone has a place and a special purpose here. I'm sure you have a contribution that you may think is small, yet would bless someone in a big way.
Iwillwait · M
@LadyGrace Wow! 🥺
Thank you for your kind words.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I sometimes wonder if it is. Other people talk and it sounds like I should be doing more and it will make me doubt. But to be honest, I am just as happy here with my quiet little explorations as anywhere else. There’s something to love about every day, so I suppose I could go see more and do more, but I don’t think it’s passing me by if I’m loving the moments as they go.

Nothing is more frightening to me than the prospect of waking up one day with no responsibilities or purpose in my life .
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
I feel like this and have done most of my life especially since I'm not the most popular person.
I find that I'm always on the back end of things.
But once I start working again things can start to change a little more.

I don't like being in all the time and dipping into my savings isn't fun...
All I can say is when circumstances aren't the best we have to cut back.
And unfortunately it can feel like punishment especially when it's longer than you expected.

Things will pick up again. And if not you have a great home invite some folks round....

Yesterday, as my wife had her treatment, I was reading Scott Stiiiman’s “Nature’s Silent Message”. To paraphrase, “Freedom is a myth. We believe that in our youth if we work hard enough, save enough, and the market doesn’t crash we can retire. Then we can do as we please, make our own schedule, live by our rules.” It seems we worked for freedom only to lose it to age.

If some bits of it pass me by, I feel very fortunate. However, I do understand your issues.

You bought that big RV and you thought you would be out travelling the country, having massive amounts of fun and adventure, but your home life situation almost always says, "No." Now you feel trapped in the house where you don't want to be. It's a sad situation.

I still say that you should hop into that RV by yourself and GO. Hire companions so that you and she won't be alone and go out to the far west, and Alaska, and have a party!

I just feel like it's really hard to find balance. Either everything is too stagnant and boring or too fast and overwhelming. Like there's either depression or anxiety, hardly anything in between.

@intenselullaby Oh, I know that for a fact! It seems like nothing worthwhile is ever easy. Haha I wish you the very best and the most success. I believe you're a strong woman and you can do anything you set your mind to. I have no doubt you'll make it.

No, I feel more like it is passing by far far too swiftly (especially when spending too much time on SM) and I don't want to miss being present and engaged in it!

Aw it's sad to feel that way. Do you have hobbies or something you are passionate about?

I do know idle time is the worst thing for our mental, emotional and physical beings. You have life in you and there is always hope! Maybe try to find something that sparks you into movement out of the rut.

never have time to watch time
Many things happening, many activities, many places I haven't been to and probably never will. "We try catch up with the world, but it's so far out of reach."
@Stereoguy It's alright mate, that's life for everyone anyway. It's impossible not to mess out on things in order for you to gain something else. So make wise choices you won't regret on the long run.

I reckon it’s better, sometimes, to let oneself sink into such a feeling to grasp the realities of life comprehensively.
