Fluently? None...I do have a passing aquaintance with english and when I was a child I spoke quite a bit of german but not anymore

Just English. I feel like it's a waste of time to learn a language I'm never going to use, and if you don't speak it all the time you just forget anyway.

@MsSwan You might get rusty in a skill if not used in a while but it comes back pretty easy.
@CestManan Not necessarily. Can remember very little of my college French. ❤️
CestManan · 46-50, F
@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays I studied French years ago and kind of just dropped it. Recently I studied it again and was surprised how much I remembered.

I must admit though, reading and writing and to a lesser extent, speaking are way easier than trying to decipher when I hear it.

Nice. I have a friend that speaks Spanglish too. She will just switch it up mid conversation sometimes lol @JesseInTX
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@Imsleepy I do the same lol

It is not easy learning another language.

For me, I have studied french and can kind of get by with simple things, I need to get motivated to study it more.

I also want to learn Spanish. From what I can tell it seems easier than French and plus there is no shortage of Spanish speakers in the usa.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
Mostly two but I can be decent in a third one, I've forgotten much of it though. I'd like to be speaking more but I don't have any particular in mind.
Imsleepy · 31-35
Awesome. Learning Japanese has been way more fun than initially thought it would be. I plan on learning another after it, but not specific ones in mind atm. @HannibalAteMeOut
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Imsleepy how did you choose Japanese?
Imsleepy · 31-35
I love Japanese culture. After I learn the language for a few years I plan on hopefully moving there. @HannibalAteMeOut

I speak several European languages, and I would love to learn the Arabic language. I was in
Tunisia several times, and my French was very helpful; it would be so great to speak to those incredibly friendly people in their own native language.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
I only speak english fluently but i know some spanish, Ukrainian and a few phrases in mandarin.
Imsleepy · 31-35
Nice. Do you ever plan on learning more of any of those languages? @GuyWithOpinions
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@Imsleepy i do here and there. When im around people of that culture i tend to learn more.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
By default, English is my first language. but over a period of time, I've learned bits of French, Spanish, German and Japanese.
IamCuriousBabe · 51-55, F
English, Tagalog, Spanish (enough to converse and read signs and basic reading materials), elementary French.
Zwei. Ich würde gerne Schweizerdeutsch lernen, damit ich zu Bligg mitrappen kann.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@BohemianBoo is Swiss German different to ordinary German?
@Jacko1971 Yes. When people say they speak German, they really mean they speak Standard German, which is taught in schools. But there are also regional German dialects, which are totally different from the standard form.
In Switzerland, dialect is so common that it's even in media.

English mostly and a little French.
Imsleepy · 31-35
I like the way French sounds. Is it a hard language to learn from what you can tell? @Straylight
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Imsleepy No, I could probably get better at it if I tried. The trick with any language is being able to talk with people who speak it.
Imsleepy · 31-35
Yeah, I read that it helps a ton. Unfortunately I will have to find people online to speak with. No Japanese speakers anywhere near here. @Straylight
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
I have tried to learn but I never had anyone to practice with.
Imsleepy · 31-35
That’s unfortunate. I’ve read that immersion helps a lot, so like watching shows or reading books exclusively in the language you’re learning, even when you don’t fully understand it. If you ever decide to learn again maybe that method could help you. @Jacko1971
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
sadly, only really one, i can get along in 2 others, in an emergency.

basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Հայերեն և Անգլերեն խոսում եմ։
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut Google translate usually messes up with Armenian. The first word is Hayeren, which is the Armenian word for the Armenian language.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@basilfawlty89 apparently SW doesn't use google translate
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut weird. I thought it does. Well SW translate apparently sucks worse than Google.
lumberjackslam · 41-45, M
I study them then give up. I would like to continue learning French or switch to Mandarin.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
