Did any of you ever try to lucid dream?

4meAndyou · F
It happened once or twice by accident. The first time, I was taking a nap in a bedroom on the second floor of a beautiful beach house we rented for the winter, and when I tried to wake up, I began to float up above my body. I couldn't control the floating, but made it up to the ceiling, and I still remember the ornate crown moldings up there in intricate detail. I found that if I used my "hands", I could move, and I wasn't a bit afraid.

Instead, I experimented and found that I could move out into the hallway, and I thought that was super cool! I remembered that the second ex had been sitting downstairs in the living room, and I wondered if I could make my way down there and scare the sh!t out of him. I thought maybe he would be able to see me!

I pulled myself down the hall to the stairs, and there was a bend in the stairs just there...and as I tried to pull myself downward I was forcibly snapped right back into my body. As I was "whooshed" back, I could sort of sense or see a silver cord connecting me to my own body on the bed.

@4meAndyou I dont even wanna read that last line, it's getting night time here 😨
And I heard about mirrors. How did u get out of the sleep paralysis. I didnt know that was even a possibility.
4meAndyou · F
@Dan193 Eventually it just stops happening when you get old enough. The sleep paralysis is hard to break out of. Sometimes you have to go through 3 or 4 "dreams" before you can wake up...and the dreams are usually things like, "I am awake now, and I am getting out of bed".
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@4meAndyou oh I understand. Sorry for making u sad, I was just protecting myself too. I try to avoid even scary movies and stuff, to not add any of that to my imagination.

My dreams are really fucking crazy I try not to encourage them
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MartinTheFirst no, just sad syringe. Also weirdest shit happened. The dude was apparently an university teacher, so he invited some of his students to assist.
I had my eyes closed while he was applying the anesthesia, then when I open them, there are like 9 ppl in front of me watching 👹 I litterily WTFed in my mind.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Dan193 aw crap thats bad manners, he should have asked first
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MartinTheFirst yeah I know. But whatever, I wouldn't've minded, it helps the students to get better. Plus I got a professor to work on me. Dude had tons of experience, so I'll take it. But yeah, still bad manners.
yes i've done it a few times. i saw a youtube video about it, and then that night when i was asleep i remembered to look at a clock to see if i could tell time. the clocks are never right in dreams. or look for a book, the words are all messed up in books in dreams. and once you realize you are dreaming you can fly and do whatever you want.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@AliceinWonderland thats pretty coolm how often do u do it?
@Dan193 it just happens randomly in a dream. now tonight i'll probably have it happen 'cause i'm talking about it
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@AliceinWonderland imagine me in it. I want to go on an adventure too
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
I like my dreams to just happen even though the idea of controlling them sounds cool.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@ImRileyTheDog yeah, that was my exact reasoning
@ImRileyTheDog Took me awhile to realize i coukd tell myself it was a dream - while i was dreaming.

You cantrol them, yes to a point. I usually stop, or rewind part of the dream and go a different way.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@TallMtnMedic are u able to ever get normal none influence dreams?
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
I did it a bunch if times before i knew it was a thing
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@DarkSideoftheMoon damn you're hipster!
DarkSideoftheMoon · 31-35, F
@MartinTheFirst not every dream but a lot of them i knew it was a dream while in the dream and took over but some i didnt know too
Aidan · 26-30, F
I have lucid dreamed they’re the best kind of dreams.
Axelerator · 31-35, M
Yes, and to this day I’d still love to do it, but it never happened for me. Well not except in one nightmare, where it didn’t do me any good
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire thats interesting. So better not revisit memories in your dreams?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Dan193 I don't know about that. I'm just saying your brain considers nightmares to be real. Something interesting.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire oh wow, wellmaybe because you are in a state of fear and not a rational one
I did a long time ago, successfully even a few times! But now? I get so anxious or excited when I realize I’m dreaming g that I wake up.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@nonsensiclesnail yeah, I can be like that too sometimes. Why did u say you arent able to do it no more?
I quit trying a long time ago and have never made a good effort to start again. @Dan193 I suffer from insomnia, too often. Or did..not lately. Ive found a way to get me to go to sleep that mostly works, maybe its time to start trying again.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@nonsensiclesnail pls tell me. I really struggle with falling asleep myelf. Sometimes hours until morning
MrGomco · 36-40, M
Yes, every day.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
@Dan193 But it will take several attempts and you have to set your mind before to sleep and durring the day and doing "reality checks" to verify if it's a dream or if it's not.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MrGomco 2hat really checks do u do? Also how do u wake up out of a dream?
MrGomco · 36-40, M
@Dan193 I use to bite my thumb to check if I'm dreaming, when I'm dreaming it feels like buble gum or rubber, so I realize it's time to enjoy my lucid dream.
Yes with mixed results. It's simple enough for me to attain the point of being fully aware that I'm in the dream state but more difficult to manifest what I want to dream .
Yup. I routinely do.
@Dan193 lol Like Robin, the boy wonder? I do not, no.
Its a dream, how many do you dream about?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@TallMtnMedic alright thanks, I dont want to perster u too much with noob questions 😂
@Dan193 naw, its cool. Lol
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Yeah it happens whenever i tell myself i want it to happen before i fall asleep. However its not real lucid dreaming. I doubt anyone can actually fully lucid dream because its a different part of the brain that decides what youre going to dream. I can sometimes control what happens, i understand that its a dream, but at the same time i try to phone my mother into real life because i know im dreaming... Yeah work that one out.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Dan193 And that's a good thing, I avoid disgusting imagery as well.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MartinTheFirst I wonder if u can lucid dream hentai, because it's drawn not real, so I wonder
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Dan193 I've thought about that too, and i find that it's very difficult to actually dream in art-styles. Your brain just puts too much detail into everything, it's not happy with flat images.
Yes. I have a process to get there, but it’s not the most restful sleep.
@Dan193 hmmm, 5-6 years, and yeah I can get into that state most of the times I try. I can’t always control as much as I want but I think that’s because of stuff I’m going through atm. I think eventually it will come to me when I’m more able to receive.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@BrokenAbyss are u able to have normal dreams now? Dreams that u automatically dont think are dreams
@Dan193 Yup. I have dreams most every night. For me to lucid dream I have to wake up at about 4-5am and think, maybe do some art, smoke some weed, then get cozy and fall back asleep really slowly so I can keep in touch with my thoughts. I can kinda see/feel it (I know that probably makes no sense) and I know I’m going into the dream as an observer. I used to be really good at controlling the dream, but now I just observe as an outsider to my own consciousness. Maybe I’m too tired, or it’s better to watch for now, but I can at least get there now.

It’s not very restful though, so after a few nights I have to get undisturbed sleep or I start to feel weird.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Yes, but I haven't had any success trying to make it happen. I've had a handful of lucid dreams and they are so incredible.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@DunningKruger mine were random as well.
SW-User
I don't think it's something you can try and achieve.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User so many ppl here answered that they've done it tho
SW-User
@Dan193 that was my personal opinion, personally I still don't think possible to intentionally dream like that.

I have had lucid dreams, but it always ends real fast.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User thats fair I suppose
sarabi · F
Yes, but not so much lately
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@sarabi why did u stop? Also are u able to still have normal dreams, without influencing them?
sarabi · F
@Dan193 because I have intrusive thoughts, so while lucid dreaming they instantly materialize. And yes, of course.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@sarabi I have those too sometimes when I daydream
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
They came without trying.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@MartinTheFirst lucid dreams
K1llYourDumplings · 31-35, F
No. It used to just happen. It's been years though
Dan193 · 31-35, M
Lilymoon · F
No but that's interesting
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Lilymoon I find it interesting too, but I'm aprehensive about doing it myself
SW-User
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User there is a lot of info about it online. I think u could do it, if u wanted to.
SW-User
@Dan193 ok I will.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User oh really? I'd like to hear about your progress in like week. I curious
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I went through a phase several years ago where I was intentionally trying to lucid dream. It's to the point now where I can tell I'm dreaming, and sometimes I let the dream play out the way it wants to, and sometimes I intentionally take control. I often have more fun just seeing where it's going.

A recent example from a couple of months ago is, I was talking to my dad in a dream, trying to explain something to him. He wasn't getting it, and I had to repeat myself several times. At one point, I realized I was dreaming, said screw this, jumped off the couch, and flew out the window into the sky.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire if u done it for so long, do you ever find yourself irl questioning yourself if this is a dream?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Dan193 I've thought about that a lot. For example when you have a scary dream that you do not realize is a dream and you're just in your room or something, then you think "holy shit this is real!" but then when you wake up it's like "nah, this is real". When you're in a dream you think it's real, when you're in real life you know it's real.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MartinTheFirst oh thats relieving.
DDonde · 31-35, M
When I was younger I did try to, but was never able to pull it off.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@DDonde maybe you didnt have enough info on it back then, to pull it off
DDonde · 31-35, M
@Dan193 Every time I've realized I'm dreaming or have any kind of control over the dream I instantly wake up.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@DDonde me too actually. Not instatly, but after like I start doing something, then I wake up
SW-User
I think I did have a semi-lucid one, I don't remember which decade it happened though, and I don't recall anything about it

I remember in the late 80s I had an issue of Omni magazine with an article about lucid dreaming and did try for awhile to make it happen, but during that period it never worked
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User maybe it was badly explained. They wanted you to buy their book or program :p

Do u still have any dreams now? Like normal ones. I practically almost never remember mine anymore
SW-User
@Dan193 I have normal dreams all the time, and plenty I wish I would not wake up from, I want them to keep going, and even with those, within minutes of waking up I can't remember much about them, in spite of desperately trying to hold on to the details I was so enjoying before waking up
