Strangest meat i ever had i didn't know what it was. My mom worked at a chicken factory and there were all walks of life there. I know the man was cambodian but the meat had a tanginess to it ive never had anywhere else in life. Ive had pheasant, quail, rabbit, venison and wild hog. Where im at those are kinda common. I want to try gator.

@11knaves11 Wild duck is delicious too!
11knaves11 · 46-50, M
@UnderLockDown ive never had it. How was it prepared?
UnderLockDown · M
@11knaves11 On a campfire. 😆 We were stuck behind a flooded stream for a few days waiting to cross, there were ducks everywhere after the storm... we had to eat.
I'm pretty sure the Ranger knew we were poaching, but when you get hungry enough it doesn't matter.

@HumanEarth Warm or serving prep, but I would have to try it myself! And I may become a pet store stalker, who knows! LOL
HumanEarth · F
Rats, raccoons, minks skunk, river otters are all similar
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@HumanEarth That looks disgusting! 🤣
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
I have had the gator, and it is good. I have eaten all kinds of fish and game including Black Bear. But my strangest would-be Dog and Cat in Korea while in the Army there. And Camel when in the Army in the middle East. Goat and lamb domestically raised.

Snails. They were disgusting!!!
I fed them cornmeal for weeks and was very careful to follow all the directions...
They were cooked snot in garlic sauce!! It was so f*cking gross!🤢
Rattlesnake isn't bad.
I've had many wild plants, but that's not really strange.

@UnderLockDown I agree about snails. I had to eat one as part of an initiation.
UnderLockDown · M
@UnderLockDown Even the dogs refused to eat them, despite being covered in butter.😆

Octopus. Had it in grade school.
Had beefalo, snake, rabbit and venison as well much later.
Had multiple types of fish. Including swordfish and shark.

My wife is from SE Asia. It was tasty, what ever it was. They call chicken intestines "betamax."
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Crazywaterspring In the US, chicken gizzards and livers are popular here. ☺
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Zonuss Here in Texas Hispanic grocery stores sell skinned cow and goat heads.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
I just watched a movie King Rat with George Segal it's a great movie but you have to go to Stream City on YouTube to get it.(They eat a variety of uncommon things)

My ex-wife as the strangest in both "eaten and had" categories...LOL
exexec · 70-79, C
Alligator and rattlesnake, which were fine. Snails, which were awful.
emmasfriend · 46-50, F
Grouse, partridge, pheasant, wood pigeon, mallard, wild boar, venison have all featured in my diet.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
I never had it but they used to eat muskrat seasonally.
Poppies · 61-69, F
Alligator for me, too. Alligator bites in a restaurant were tender and tasty. Jerky from a roadside stand, not.

Iguana
11knaves11 · 46-50, M
@Lostpoet bro what did it taste like and would you eat it again??
Lostpoet · M
@11knaves11 I would eat it again it was thin sliced and in a burrito it didn't taste much different than any other meat.
11knaves11 · 46-50, M
@Lostpoet i see them but never get the notion to view them as food.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
I once dropped a hamburger patty on the filthy ground at the steel mill but ate it anyway, a bit gritty.
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
Ostrich.
It was red meat and had a texture and taste similar to lean steak.

FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell That was a big thing in Europe back in the 80s with ostrich farms all over the place. It was very healthy and tasty and a lot cheaper than steak from cattle. I was sorry when it fell out of favour. Similarly with kangaroo meat: that is no longer in fashion in the UK, but then importing it is expensive and I wouldn't buy it now on ecological grounds.

Octopus! It was quite good!

@meggie We got hamsters once but ended up with like a billion hamsters and I had to leave them at the doorstep at the pet shop and run.

JohnnySpot · 56-60, M

A Big Mac. No idea what animal that came from 🤢
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@SunshineGirl Processing plant that manufacturers meat. Simulated. 😛
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
Not that strange by Norwegian standards and tradition, but black pudding or sheep head.
MarineBob · 61-69, M
Either horse or monkey
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@AthrillatheHunt I don't think you're supposed to eat animals with pads on their feet, bear, dog, cougar, lion, cat, monkey, fox.....
I remember my grandfather saying more than once "you can always eat a porcupine"
But he was from a rural area and needed to eat. I think porcupines have pads on their feet

@JohnnySpot good rule of thumb. I’m okay eating every mammal except primates. Never been offered dog but I doubt I’d say no. I love rabbit.
JohnnySpot · 56-60, M
@AthrillatheHunt Good point, a neighbor used to raise rabbits to eat ,they have pads on their feet but it doesn't seem objectable.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
