I haven't eaten fast food in many years. Expensive poison. The more it costs the fewer people will eat it and the healthier Americans will be. And maybe our healthcare won't be so expensive.

@OogieBoogie yes but when fast food gets even more expensive then it is now maybe then they will learn to visit the grocery store more often
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Moneyonmymind Thanks for BA!
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Monaschandroff86 Yes. Very healthy for an old man.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
I dont eat fast food or much processed food, I prefer freshly cooked food but it helps I love cooking.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Fatalice so in other words you dont care to live for much longer?
Fatalice · 41-45, F
My doctor puts my life expectancies as less than five years so I may as well eat what I want @Moneyonmymind
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Fatalice shame
Wiseacre · F
I never eat fast food.
Monaschandroff86 · 18-21, F
@Wiseacre and are you thin
Wiseacre · F
@Monaschandroff86 normal weight.
Monaschandroff86 · 18-21, F
@Wiseacre ok
robertsnj · 56-60, M
I get more concerned when the price of produce flucuates.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@robertsnj also true
Gingerbreadspice · F
I eat McDonald’s still about every 2 weeks. I go to the drive thru. Sometimes it gets too hard to be good all week. When I order pizza or Chinese that’s too expensive these days especially if I order for delivery.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@PatKirby I love five guys but I only go there now like 3 times a year 😂 as for everywhere else maybe like once every 2 weeks?
PatKirby · M
@Moneyonmymind
Sounds about right. I go to Five Guys about once a year, but Whataburger couple times a month. Even they've gone up big time too.
They think we're rich.

@PatKirby yes yes they do 😂
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
I view fast food as a treat-it’s not great for you and it’s expensive
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Flenflyys yes
Fatalice · 41-45, F
I eat fast food a lot, twice a day on average and no I’m not cutting back
meggie · F
The only fast food I have occasionally is a cornish pasty from the local bakery or 3-4 times a year, fish and chips at the seaside. I cook all my Chinese, mexican, pizzas, burgers, curries etc at home. I want to know what is in my food.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@meggie fair enough
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
Never anymore but that doesn't mean I'm eating. Healthy.
Even Healthy is more expensive now....
I had to be creative going to three different stores

Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@FreestyleArt it’s humor that they make the healthiest things more expensive, no wonder why so many are fat
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Moneyonmymind yes they want us to eat junk food full of chemicals. It costs more to buy foods that leave out unhealthy ingredients like MSG, artificial food dyes, etc. People on a tight budget will buy the least expensive ones most of the time.
Colonelmustardseed · 41-45
Not because of prices exactly. It’s just more often gross. Waste of any amount of money.
helsbels · 31-35, F
I've seen the cost of a couple of bags of shopping rise but the cost of a couple of food orders stay the same. It might not be great value for what it is, but it doesn't feel as much of an expense. I know that's flawed/not accurate... I probably order 2-3 times a week, and do a food shop every week and a half.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I try to minimise eating it generally, both ready-meals and take-away ones.
It's convenient sometimes but more expensive and most is poorly nutritious to the extent a diet mainly of "fast food" is bad for your health as well as bank-balance.

Punches · 46-50, F
Those places are almost never busy as it is, how do most of them stay afloat?
Punches · 46-50, F
@Moneyonmymind yeah but I mean as slow as bussiness is for some of them, they cannot be profiting.
Especially gross ones like Arby's.

Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Punches ohhhh yeah those places will most likely close in a few months or years but mcds looks like they’re thriving
Punches · 46-50, F
@Moneyonmymind Yeah I was thinking that too. Grossest hamburger joint on the planet and people are lined up like it might be their last meal.
I mean for the kids, it is a five star high class luxury culinary experience but for us grown ups, we better bring a bottle of Pepto Bismol.
When I am traveling and it is the only place open, I usually just say "f*ck it" and spring for a delicious meal at the gas station's "Deli".
yeah I know...

No,I'm shoplifting supermarket food more..as a counter measure.
Wiseacre · F
@SatanBurger not easy..clerks are watching everybody.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Wiseacre Oh I always found it easy but I haven't done it for awhile. I actually can't do it any other time, like I couldn't pick a pocket but I've always been fast with my hands. So what I do is ring up things so I'll pay for some things but I'll also act like I'll ring up things at the same time but really just put them in my bag. But I do it nearly at the same time I do something else so it's kind of hard to catch.
It's kind of like if you were juggling cups around on a table, and then you ask the person which one the coin is in. It's kind of the same motion.
I also purposely never keep receipts, actually it's kind of a habit because I hate having paper from too much junk mail so I can easily just say that excuse which would be true.

@SatanBurger wow, ur gutsy!
Spoiledbrat · F
Tgere are some things we've stopped buying. Like cereal. We only buy it when it's on sale.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Spoiledbrat I don’t think I’ll ever eat cereal again I watched something recently that said there’s a lot of nanoplastics in cereal
OogieBoogie · F
@Moneyonmymind what you might be interested to know is that many takeaway foods aremade with seed oils, canola etc....or worse, crisco.
Thing is, thse oils transform from polyunsaturated fats to trans fat at high temperatures, and repeated heating.
Your body uses fat to repair and make cells: everything from your blood and veins, to your kdneys, skin, brain etc.
Trans fats are weak chain fatty acids, they are basically crap for a building material for the body.
In fact, given both trans and good fats, the body will prefer to try to expell trans fats they are so bad.
But if its all it gets, it uses them .
And this is partly why people are having early onset heart disease, heart attacks, immune disorders, and congested arteries and such - bad building materials create weak cellular structure in the body 🤷

I don't eat much fast food.
Crispy bean burritos from taco time are the only thing I crave, fast food wise.

@nonsensiclesnail maybe it’s better that way
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Burger King is now like 13 bucks. That’s chipotle/ Panera /applebees prices .
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@AthrillatheHunt yes, I haven't been to a BK in like 3 years
Degbeme · 70-79, M
We didn`t eat much fast food. But we did go out once a week to an actual restaurant. Had to cut back.
Spoiledbrat · F
No, we just watch what we buy and where we shop. And we look for sales and buy in bulk.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I stopped eating it years ago. Not a good value for the nutrition aspect.
CBarson · 51-55
I don’t eat much fast food, so, to compensate, I eat slow food very quickly
Monaschandroff86 · 18-21, F
I’m m, less of it not, because, I can’t buy it, but because don’t have appetite for it
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Yes, and when I do eat it I'm ordering less.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Starcrossed ahh
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
I eat fast food a few times a year. Usually a bag of chips from a fish and chip shop, occasionally a piece of fish as well.
I'd eat hamburgers more often if the buns they are served in were edible.

LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@ninalanyon I know. It's just burger buns at fast food places are inherently unhealthy. For example, the Third Pound Angus Burger at Carl's, Jr. When you get it with the bun, it has 56 carbs. Without the bun, 10 carbs.
Other fast food places have similarly carby bread, and if you research this, you'll find yourself asking why. There's a disturbingly simple reason. The bread is low quality and they know it, so they mix a ton of sugar into the dough. This gets you addicted to the product, even though it's shitty.

@LordShadowfire Subway in Ireland was taken to court by the tax authorities because bread is zero rated for VAT as it is a staple food. But Subway 'bread' has so much sugar that it counts as cake which is not a staple so it is not zero rated and they should have been paying VAT (a kind of sales tax).
Years ago I was working in the US for three months so I took my family with me. Even my children complained that everything was too sweet. When we visited one of my colleagues at his home his wife was very surprised when my children asked for water to drink.
By the way what are the units in your '56 carbs'?

LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@ninalanyon Grams. For everything diabetic, I measure in metric for the sake of precision.
I'm not the slightest bit surprised that happened to Subway. A footlong sandwich of theirs is 120 g of carbohydrates.

I eat omad so I can afford steak and good cheese lol that's all I need. Edited: I eat to full satiety so I'm not limiting myself.

Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@Pretzel sure is and quality has surely dipped most of the time

I was priced out of fast food before this. I used to enjoy a Wendy's burger now and then, but not so much, anymore.
Punches · 46-50, F
@Roundandroundwego You cannot really enjoy something if it is over priced.
Spoiledbrat · F
For the price some of them charge one could just eat a restaurant.
Mordechai · 31-35, M
I don't anyway. I heard some McDonald's in the states were doing prices by peak times and it got insane.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Mordechai Whoa, peak times prices…never heard of that one.
DigitalBushido · 18-21, M
noo its where all my money goes
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
I just find that the people I eat lately are skinnier on average. No matter, I just eat more of them than usual. Tough times.
Raaii · 22-25, F
I never eat fast foods
bijouxbroussard · F
The only thing that justified it in the past was that it was cheaper. But I can cook, so if I’d be spending the same amount of money and not knowing about the cooking conditions…I cut back on fast food years ago to eat healthier. When I prepare it I know what’s in it.
justanothername · 51-55, M
Yes because we have plenty of food at home and it’s silly to waste it.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@justanothername true

I barely eat it .
As delicious as it is, im on a food journey of 'food as medicine'.
I did buy an orange poppyseed muffin thr other day - but im not sure if that is what you mean 😏

@Moneyonmymind it’s in Canada, maybe that’s why?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
No, because other types of food are even more expensive.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire just myself sir.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Moneyonmymind Well, there you go. I'm feeding three people, one of whom insists on a bunch of sugar-free snackies in the house at all times to keep him from going in and eating an entire can of kidney beans when he has the munchies. You don't want to know what our weekly grocery bill is.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire in the hundreds im sure
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
On another note, I remember when Carl's Jr came out with what they now call the Big Carl. They called it the Six Dollar Burger, to make fun of the fact that other restaurants charged six bucks for the same size sandwich, and then they only charged $3 for it.
Times have sure changed.
Times have sure changed.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire ive never been there, its to my understanding they are only on the west coast, im in the east
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Moneyonmymind On the East Coast, they're called Hardee's.
Don't get me wrong, even though prices have changed, I still love them. They're the only place whose burgers look like they do on TV.

Fast food has been expensive for years and years and I hardly ever eat it. A good diner or counter burger is about the same price and way more satisfying.
I only ever eat Fast food like McDonalds occasionally on road trips as a treat.

LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@MethDozer I feel like the only thing I really look forward to on their menu is the fries. They do something different with them.
The other thing I'll do is kind of off menu. A McChicken and a McDouble, take off the bottom bun of each, and smush them together. That's the only thing I would consider still somewhat of a treat there.
