A brand new Tesla in Australia is only $50,000 and a second hand is $30,000

@Nimbus well it’s the same price as a brand new , Toyota
Wiseacre · F
@Monalisasmith86 cheap!
Monalisasmith86 · 36-40, F
@Wiseacre especially if you consider how much you save on fuel / charging costs
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
We have one. We got it before Elon lost his mind. We aren’t rich but hubby always wanted one since they came out . So one day a tree fell on his previous car, and well, the buyout helped us to get the car. Now here’s some funny things to know -
1) I won’t drive it. It’s nice but it’s convoluted compared to other cars. Too many menus on the screen and the whole car depends on that screen. It’s like driving a car with your phone.
2) hubby likes my electric SUV more or at least appreciates its practicality much more than Tesla.
3) it’s resale value is in the toilet now. If it was bad before it’s not even existent now bc the politics of it and we aren’t even 🇺🇸 but not too many people are eager to get a Tesla.
It’s a nice car though. The technology in it is really innovative. You can tell someone really wanted to break the mould of the traditional vehicular experience. But it’s just not for me.

@DoubleRings it was also the way Chevy chose color and chrome.

@DoubleRings yes, the 2 tone is bothersome
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I live in too cold a climate for that. Those batteries do not get a lot of mileage in the extreme cold.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DrWatson Cold climate or not, I would not trust one to park it in my garage. I know someone who had a truck (they later got recalled) that shorted out and set their home on fire in the middle of the night. The family got a settlement from the auto company and moved away, and they’ll never park a vehicle in a garage attached to the house again.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@DrWatson Also ... our previous auto was a Prius, which I loved. But, electric vehicles are light in weight and don't do ice or packed snow very well. As I recall, the owner's manual had warnings about spinning wheels with no traction.
TexChik · F
As far as the machine itself, it is phenomenal. Achieving 0-60 in 2.3 seconds in a production car is unheard of, whether it's battery or gas-powered. It's well designed and put together. If the stench of liberal politics wasn't all over it...I would consider one for around town. Musk is developing an aluminum-based battery, which is expected to be much more powerful, cheaper to produce, and lighter.
However, watching libs destroy each other's cars has been fun!

I would of it wasnt limited to charging points. And the ultimate control of it by Tesla themselves.
For example. Self repairs and modifications are a big no no to them.
I don't like the fact that for whatever reason someone somewhere out there can just "kill" the car where it can't be driven unless released by Tesla.

Am seriously considering one for my next car. Problem is I don’t like really small cars.

@Nimbus
Ford guy here. Love my maverick pickup. Ford has so many recalls now it’s ridiculous and quality has gone downhill since 2000. Might be interested in a Toyota pickup since they don’t have recalls. Definitely will be looking at and test driving a Tesla though. Would never ever even consider a Chevrolet as they have been and always will be JUNK. They should park the car crusher right outside the factory door and drive every new Chevrolet straight into the car crusher and immediately eliminate all the pain, anguish, and suffering involved in owning such a disaster.

No. I have other uses for the money and my 23 year old Chevy pickup runs fine.
@exexec I love them. Can't beat a Chevy truck.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Probably not. I already have a Camry Hybrid that I love and it will likely last for the remainder of my life.
Nimbus · M
@Heartlander Oh!
Have you had any problems with it?
Have you had any problems with it?
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Nimbus It's a 2014 with 60K, not any issues whatsoever. Got a super discount at 2014 year end. Was about to buy another Prius but the Prius was selling at a premium and the Camry Hybrid at a steep discount. So got the high end Camry for less that the low end Prius.
Nimbus · M
@Heartlander Good to hear :)
I hope you have many thousands more of trouble free miles to come. :)

YES!!! I would insure it for replacement value, (assuming I was rich), and have a custom paint job on it that says, "I LOVE ELON AND DONALD TRUMP!"
I would never have to charge it! I could just leave it here in the parking lot with my nanny cam systems (because in this fantasy I am rich),and allow the vandals to have their fun, and I could do it OVER and OVER again and press charges EVERY TIME! The vandals would NEVER learn, and I don't think it would EVER get old! 🤣🤣🤣

No, their build quality isn't great and I would not want any of my money going to 'him"
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Nimbus several friends have them .
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 I will say I have had the belief after reading the assembly issues and working in Quality Assurance all my career before retiring that Musk sees no value added in having or hiring Quality personnel.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 quite an unexpected reaction considering your comment.

no to any EV. a self driving Tesla here made a wrong turn onto railroad tracks the other day. luckily the people got out before the train hit it
Nimbus · M
@saragoodtimes I wouldn't trust self driving!
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F
Not my style … I drive a jeep!
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@FoolishLuna Have you ever been jeep ducked?
Adrift · 61-69, F
@FoolishLuna 🦆
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F
@Matt85 yes a few times.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
No, I could always find something better to spend the money on.
Nimbus · M
@SunshineGirl Indeed, there is a great choice.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
No. I hate spontaneous combustion….not to mention replacing batteries that cost thousands of dollars.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Excellent point!
TexChik · F
@cherokeepatti Tens of thousands
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik Saw a video this week of a covered area in China for parking E-bikes. It caught on fire, a huge blaze, hundreds of e-bikes and think there were some E-cars as well since they got the price down to about $12,000…and they said in the video that a lot of E-bikes and cars had caught on fire in China. There was a cargo ship full of Chinese made battery cars that caught on fire, total loss.
RachelLia2003 · 22-25, F
i love tesler😌 but i still drive a good old petrol car👹
Nimbus · M
@RachelLia2003 Good to hear :)
No. I'm not sure how I would like having to charge a battery, especially now that the cost of electricity will be going up.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
Nope - to big for my needs 🙂
Wiseacre · F
God, NO…I wouldn’t buy anything linked to what’s his name!!
Gibbon · 70-79, M
No I will never own any EV unless that became the only thing available. The reasons why not are too plentiful.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I wouldn't take one if it was free
Nimbus · M
@smileylovesgaming You could sell it though?
BrandNewMan · M
Not likely a Tesla .. don't care for the ones I'd be comfortable with pricewise.
Nimbus · M
@BrandNewMan Oh, which EV would you prefer?
BrandNewMan · M
@Nimbus For what I expect to need .. none. I would more likely be looking at diesel pick up truck. I like the look of the Rivian truck /SUV .. but cost relative to conventional is a concern and not sure of EV technology yet for durability/ towing.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
No, I prefer cars that don't spontainously combust!
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Nimbus Yes! Elon Musk has "somehow" gotten the federal agency that keeps up with car accidents, including those that catch fire for no known reason, to stop reporting on the Tesla models. They can and do report on all the other cars in the US though. Certainly seems pretty fishy to me! It's almost like those officials were getting paid to exclude all of Tesla's cars from their reports.
YoMomma ·
Nah cause i like my hybrid prius ☺
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
No. I'm not a fan of Elon.
Nimbus · M
@HowtoDestroyAngels You're not alone, many are of the same opinion.
theoldschoola · 46-50, M
I would never buy a Swastikar
Nimbus · M
OverTheHill · 61-69, M
No, because there are no charging stations in this rural area.
Nimbus · M
@OverTheHill Understandable and a major fail!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
There are better EV's out there
Nimbus · M
@Picklebobble2 I'm sure there are and most likely cheaper.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
No,better things to spend money on.
Nimbus · M
@Justmeraeagain Me too!

@basilfawlty89 Me too!
bowman81 · M
No. That applies to all electric cars and trucks.
Wallflow3r · 31-35, F
No..they are worse for the environment then other vehicles
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Nimbus I am driving my second all EV and third driven at all by EV. I have some misgivings, but, honestly, there is nothing like the experience, if not just for the noise level.
Nimbus · M
@samueltyler2 You may have just alleviated some peoples misgivings about them for mostly they get a bad press from the media.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Nimbus I know, the media has not been very supportive, i wonder if the advertisements for ICE pay more than EVs, gee is that a rhetoric question
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
No, electric is still not reliable
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
Hell NO!!!!
reasons: ugly, terrible build quality, no gauges, no spare tires, no door handles, no keys, no radio, no bumpers, not available as a convertible...and then there's the price

no. they can catch fire real bad
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus 😲buy nimby why buy what in liverpool you can hot wire and drive away lol 😆
Nimbus · M
@smiler2012 I mighta known!
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
Nope because when the zombie apocalypse happens those cars will be useless
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Cigarguy101 But perhaps easier for zombies to drive (while the battery lasts).
Nimbus · M
@Cigarguy101 Yikes!
When will that happen?
