Do you think electric cars being mainstream will improve global warming ?

redredred · M
The only reason the climate is changing is we are still exiting the latest ice age. But for the purposes of discussion, IC cars emit hydrocarbons. How will you charge E-cars without hydrocarbons at the generating source?

Please don’t tell me wind or solar. Those sources won’t provide 5% of the necessary electricity.
redredred · M
@TheDisciplinarian “Okay, could be better” is not a formula for eight billion people in a developed culture. And I’m smart enough not to fall for the crap you’ve swallowed.

Also you %$=%$$
in Part i did as i have
So if we are Hit with Another future
Super Storm Sandy

Why you and or others would Ask
Well..
After sandy..i had No Power for 3.5 months

So put 5hat in your Pipe and smoke it
You are the Near 8 billion
Who Rely Only upon the Grace f the govt
Yes. Electric cars have a FAR lower lifetime CO2 footprint and a FAR lower lifetime energy footprint.

As a bonus, since energy correlates closely to dollars, it means electric cars have a far lower total cost of ownership.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Electric cars make up a tiny portion of the automotive fleet even in rich countries like America. Around the world in places where the infrastructure isn't so built up, it may be decades before electric cars become even a blip on the radar.

Also, while cars and such certainly contribute to the climate change problem, the major contributors are more likely industrial polluters and such. Until those sources are addressed, I don't think the car thing is going to make much of a dent.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@DunningKruger The major world polluters are China and Russian industries. They will not clean up their pollution no matter what we do.
Paul82 · 41-45, M
No! I think the phrase is either 'pissing in the wind' or 'locking the door after the horse has bolted' either way, will not make the slightest difference in the grand scheme of things. It's a necessity though if for no other reason than we wont have fossil fules in 100 years time, so need to figure out how to keep cars running somehow.

Sadly, the best days of the car are behind us and fading fast
No. It wasn't supposed to. You think Elon Musk doesn't understand that electric cars aren't mass transit with pedestrian friendly cities?
You think the the government doesn't know that we will kill the ecosystem this way?
I doubt they're killing the ecosystem by accident. It's not like people would want to talk honestly about it! Some of them must be getting off on it
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Absolutely not. We are nowhere near to being able to produce enough electricity to power that many electric vehicles. Unless somebody comes up with a new viable energy source we will continue to use gasoline powered vehicles in most of the world for a very long time.
graphite · 61-69, M
@Nitedoc How about nukes? Good luck with that - the environmental fanatics will have coronaries.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@graphite If you mean nuclear energy so far it has not lived up to it's expectations. Perhaps we could improve it ?
Amylynne · 26-30, F
we are not quite there,, but getting closer
they certianly use up some bad resources, I am thinking about the cobalt.
but yes, they can be made in ways that will lower the co2 output
Amylynne · 26-30, F
@Baremine you may be mistaken E cars often use way less parts and except for the batteries,, last long and way more powerful if that is an issue
excitment? that is not my transportation goal.
lots to perfect as yes, but ultimately a more robust tech
he more technology the more problems and failures.
the same was true with gas cars.you seem to be of an age when gettin 80,000 miles on a car was wild and unheard of

now we get cars yes gas,, tht oftne exceed 300 000 I just WISH those were American cars most of those are japan's, ( some made right here in the us)
Baremine · 70-79, C
@Amylynne had 2 vw rabbit Diesel with 400000 miles assembled USA Ford ranger pu over 400k. Ford fusion 375000 and counting. Biggest problem with the Tauruses fusion and ranger was the damn computers.
Amylynne · 26-30, F
@Baremine agreed about the computers
now that rabbit diesel? it and the pickup they made was awesome my dad STILL has his, tho kind retired it
we CAN make good cars in the US honda vw, subaru all do this
but detroit dont make many cars now
alll "light trucks". like one care each for GM and ford
more profits being exempt from may safety standards
rented a toyota e car wes smooth an effective
GM was going to lead the world on this. even got behind a gret battery from an American inventor
then they sold the rights to Toyota..who broke into the US market wiht that

watch "who killed the electic car"
yes biased, but factual
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
The issue I have is the dispoal of car batteries.
Plus the infrastructure must be upgraded, from charging stations to service.

Some mechanics do no want to touch these for any repairs.
graphite · 61-69, M
@scorpiolovedeep EV battery replacement: $20,000. Maybe more.
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
Yes plus the disposal of old and new @graphite
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
No. There is no man made global warming as the latest data shows. That aside if you are trying to eliminate CO2 then electric is exactly the wrong way to go. More CO2 goes into making the electric than is generated by running an ICE vehicle for its life time.
TheDisciplinarian · 61-69, M
No... it doesnt even slow it down
Where does that Energy come from for those batteries

To start
The producing of lithium most batteries use is Very Harmful
As are many other products used

Yet
Biggest issue is the making the power used for these electric cars
Still produced by coal..gas etc
And done so on high demade..
Further Stressing the Power Grid

If though
You have your Own Hydro..wind and or solar system
That can run your home and charge yiur cars
While Not having to hook to the main Grid
Then Maybe Ok

Though
We still need design far better batteries and or super capasiters

Then
Maybe we can talk
Driver2 · M
Electric cars are no where near ready
pikminboy · 26-30, M
@Driver2 really ? They look kinda so
thatbuggerpaul · 100+, M
@Driver2 The cars are ready but in most countries (especially America ) the infrastructure and the mindset are way behind

Depends upon the carbon footprint of the power source charging the car. Assuming that most utility companies are switching to non-carbon, sustainable sources, and that most charging will occur at home during non-peak hours when the utility companies are having to use less of their fossil fuel sources -- yes.
graphite · 61-69, M
Man-made global warming = Hoax
Tres13 · 51-55, M
No it’s all BS
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@pikminboy] 🤷‍♂️by what the experts say me be a little late in the day but if it cuts down fuel emissions perhaps the game is not over yet for mankind
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Do people realize how much electricity is produced today by burning fossil fuels. The information is readily available, I'm not going to repeat it.
Baremine · 70-79, C
In the Bible, book of revelation it talks about global warming. The Lord is coming back soon. Be prepared to meet your creator who so many of you don't believe exists.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
No it won't won't
Amylynne · 26-30, F
@smileylovesgaming why not? details please.. I am investigated this issue
walabby · 61-69, M
Who knows?... Wait and see.
