My 5th-grade teacher wasn't a jerk like that, but she was tough. She talked through gritted teeth occasionally, yelled once or twice in the year, and other stuff that was not ideal, but it wasn't like a chronic problem. The biggest complaint people had about her is that she assigned way more homework than other teachers for the same grade. If you were in her class, you had a lot to do each night. And I didn't realize it until I didn't have nearly as much homework in 6th grade, or 7th grade, or even 8th grade, as I did in 5th grade.

I'm a Christian and my economics teacher in 11th grade was a Muslim. This was a school where 70% were Muslim. He thought that I was a theologically lost goody two shoes because I told my mom that he cussed a lot in class and against my wishes she complained to the principal who was also a Muslim.

So he stopped cussing but would stare at me and scream that he didn't give a da** about " Santa Claus" or "The Easter Bunny".
