Is USA still a safe country to visit?

Top | New | Old
It's not a simple answer. Every places has good spots and bad spots. In addition to how you travel. But with the current state of affairs as it is, I wouldn't recommend a visit as highly right now as I would have.
4meAndyou · F
I would be very careful if visiting a major city. I don't think any major city is safe.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@4meAndyou

Yep, anywhere on earth.

It's been that way for a long time. Just watch the looting and the torching of autos and buildings that so many big cities experience, seemingly every few months.

50+ years ago I spent a few months in Saigon, in the middle of a war. A few months later in NYC, and I felt safer in Saigon than I did in NYC.
Tracos · 51-55, M
I'm not so sure any more

Especially now that you have to declare all social media for entry into the country and make everything public so that everything can be checked for controversial posts and likes.

Not sure I want to share all SW stuff with border patrol
@Tracos
That's what fascist governments do to keep control of their citizens.
Tracos · 51-55, M
@swirlie in this case it would be non-citizens
@Tracos
It also applies to US citizens. ICE just locked up a former US Marine at the border after he re-entered the US after being away on vacation.
I would stay clear of the place another 4 years, then we see what happens. Not safe at the moment no.
iamthe99 · M
I don't know but I'm not going back there, even though i used to live there (I'm part American)
Caz82 · 41-45, F
@iamthe99 Dont you have personal and/or business relationships that would take you back there?
iamthe99 · M
@Caz82 well my company does a lot of work over there, but it’s not my area. Otherwise, barring weddings or funerals there will be nothing that will make me go back. I no longer consider the US my home
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
I don’t know but after the poor reception I received from the Border Staff last time I visited I have no intention of ever returning to the country to find out.
@Anniedlr I regret that that happened to you. My experiences have never been like that but then I would be a returning American so it might not be comparable. (Newark TSA has had a long history of rudeness but my last experience there wasn't bad.) Paris is the airport I hate most, with Heathrow second.
But I think you would find Americans generally a friendly group.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
@LamontCranston It is unfortunate that it happened and I don’t blame Americans as a whole for the incident. I guess the person had got out of bed on the wrong side that day.
@Anniedlr They try to rattle you so you make a mistake and tell them something you shouldn't have.

Yes, definitely.
The people are welcoming. The government, not so much.
I wouldn’t do it.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@nonsensiclesnail

Since when is the government against visitors ?????
Yep...just stay away from democrat run cities...LA, SF, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, St Louis, etc...
@BizSuitStacy You forgot the city that never sleeps. 🤣
@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays How could I forget to mention NYC? Or DC, Newark, Miami, New Orleans...
@BizSuitStacy NYC's current mayor should be behind bars even as we speak.
lostlissa · 36-40, F
@lostlissa
No I don't read it, I just watch American life play out every night on TV.
lostlissa · 36-40, F
@swirlie 😂😂😂.

Violent crime is rare for affecting tourists in popular vacation areas. It's more prevalent in poverty areas.
@lostlissa
Apparently violent crime is very prevalent against grade one students at schools across America where ex-Marines tend to go to take out their frustrations in life using an AR-15. But of course, you probably don't call any of that "violent crime", do you!
Pretzel · 70-79, M
I was born here - that's why I'm here
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
For the most part, yes.
if you stay out if the big city's, stay off the interstate HI ways
Generally, yes. Stay in nicer areas, have all your travel docs in order and obey the laws while you are visiting.
JackHoff · 46-50, M
Yes, it is still safe.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
For most of the people, most of the time, pretty much.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Like any other civilized country it all depends where you visit & why you visit
if you "fit in"
sure
but waatch your mouth!
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
Some places are OK, others are less than safe.
If safety means getting shot, risk being deported for having a meme on your phone or riots in LA, it’s quite safe
When was it ever safe
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
I'd love to think so but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I will not be visiting again anytime soon
Depends on what the current travel advisories where you live say???
Just stay out of Bed-Stuy.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
When was it ever safe? Maybe in a small town.
Musicman · 61-69, M
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Not even remotely.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
I certainly wouldn’t visit with the clows 🤡running it!

No, it’s a fascist authoritarian state. We have roving good squads kidnapping people who are never seen again.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
Until Trump and his insular regime are removed - no.
@Selah She turned away millions! (Voters, that is.)
No, not safe at all. Very dangerous country to visit right now and probably for the next 5 years at least.
