My MIL comes every year from the UK and stays 6 weeks. It’s really no big deal.

That would suggest to me that you've gotten use to the dangerous aspect of the US being all around you all the time and don't actually notice what's going on in the USA like the rest of us otherwise do from a distance.

@swirlie On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being dangerous and 1 being not at all dangerous, I’d give the US a 2. It’s just not unsafe at all.

If you went into a really bad neighborhood in a bad city, there’s always chance of a crime. But, you’d have to be stupid to go there in the first place.

We’re in NYC at least twice a year, walking later at night too - never had a problem. Not even once.
