When Jesus was dying on the cross and he said to God "father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing"

Why didn't he tell the people who were crucifying him that they needed to repent and accept him as their savior, or else God wouldn't forgive them and they would be sent to hell forever?
Maybe because his sacrifice saves everyone, whether they believe or not.

none of us were alive at that time...only he can answer your question...he did die for every sin committed thruout time. yet not everyone wants to go to confess, repent, and go to heaven.

@LordShadowfire I don't have to prove the Bible. I don't have to prove God. I don't have to be an apologist for any religion. It's not my place, it's not my responsibility, it's not my job to, it's not my mission, it's not my calling, it's not my desire and I am in any case too lazy to do so. Believe what you want to believe. When the subject comes up I just comment what I believe to be truth. What you do with it is up to your discretion
@Anton
...it's not my responsibility...
So according to your religion, I'm going to be tortured for eternity because I'm not convinced, and you're good with that?

@LordShadowfire Well, Jesus is good for that. In fact, the Bible states: (seeing you want Scripture quoted) Revelation 14:9-11 King James Version

9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead or in his hand,

10 the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out unmixed into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

Because it's all a load of crap made up by some dudes who want your money and the power to tell you what to do so they don't have have to work for a living. Religion is the most evil thing that has ever happened to this pitiful broken planet.

@hunkalove What "all" is a load of crap?

@hunkalove literally the worst argument I’ve ever seen

The Bible saids every knee will now and every tongue will confess but it still doesn't make sense he preached hell so much

@SW-User There are no atheists in Hell. They all suddenly start believing right after they died

@Anton I know people who could die and look at the face of God and still deny his existence. They would tell themselves it's a result of DMT being released from the brain from death it scares me to think of the confidence people can carry
Anton · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yeah. I always think of them as the people Jesus talked to when He told the parable (real event?) of the rich man and Lazarus... He said that after the rich man died he asked if Abraham could just send someone back and go and tell others that Hell exists, they would repent. But a few days later Jesus brought Lazarus back to life and even when people saw Him do it, they still didn't believe... There is no end to unbelief and mockery.

He did.. Later, through the Apostle Peter on the day of penticost.. On the day peter spoke to the crowd.. Some of whom had taken part in the execution of Jesus.. The LORD convicted many of them and many of them came to believe Jesus and trust in the atonement He secured for them on the cross..

Christianity is all about forgivness.. God wishes that all come to repentance and be saved.. Yes He wanted that for all who took part in his execution..

Oh and the Atonement ( sacrafice ) is a gift THAT MUST BE ACCEPTED TO BE HAD... Reject The WORD of God and Reject His offer of forgiveness and one will not obtain the covering of His Atoning Blood..

@Sweetguy024 According to the biblical fairytale, hell is temporary, just like death is temporary. No one will spend eternity in the Christian hell but some will spend eternity in the Islamic hell. It pays to know your hells.
Anton · 56-60, M
@Diotrephes At your age you definitely should start contemplating eternity seriously... having one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel...

As long as I don't end up in the Islamic hell I'll be just fine. Even you could end up in the Christia hell but it's just temporary. You'll make bail on Judgment Day and could even get the eternal life you so desire but you might have to soend it outside of the wall around the golden cube.

He was dying on the cross. I don't think He had much time and breath (He was slowly suffocating) for another sermon on the mount. Besides, He told them many times during His life, they should have listened.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@Anton When Jesus was on the cross he finally realized that his parents, especially Mary, had been lying to him all of his life about God being his daddy. He should have realized it long before then when he could never do anything godly in scope, such as commanding a mountain to uproot itself and to jump into the sea.
Vengabus · 36-40
Doesn't "father forgive them" kind of explain itself? jesus's desires and motives are as clear as his faith
@Vengabus Yeah, except for the fact that he's talking to himself in that passage.
Vengabus · 36-40
@LordShadowfire The people werent listening but God always is
It's either that, or he really wasn't the son of God as he claimed.

I subscribe to the swoon theory, personally. I feel there's enough circumstantial evidence in the official version of the story to suggest that he was drugged into unconsciousness, and the Roman who tested to see if he was dead didn't understand enough about human anatomy to realize he was poking a still-alive person with a stick.
