When Jesus was dying on the cross and he said to God "father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing"

Why didn't he tell the people who were crucifying him that they needed to repent and accept him as their savior, or else God wouldn't forgive them and they would be sent to hell forever?
Maybe because his sacrifice saves everyone, whether they believe or not.

It's either that, or he really wasn't the son of God as he claimed.

I subscribe to the swoon theory, personally. I feel there's enough circumstantial evidence in the official version of the story to suggest that he was drugged into unconsciousness, and the Roman who tested to see if he was dead didn't understand enough about human anatomy to realize he was poking a still-alive person with a stick.
