Would you be best friends with an atheist?

Morvoren · F
Almost everyone I know is an atheist or agnostic.

But I judge people on if they are a good friend, not by who they do or don’t pray to.
riseofthemachine · 41-45, M
I met people from all different religious beliefs and they were all lovely people .
You can be an atheist and still have a good way about you .
Have good religious beliefs at times don't deny who you are but if you have any some sort of belief it helps
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@riseofthemachine It helps with what?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Yes, why not?

This is a rather silly question. We should be friends irrespective of religious views.

I am an agnostic but two of my friends are vicars!

Actually I managed to upset one religious zealot on here by letting slip somewhere in the conversation that I had attended, by invitation, one of these friend's ordination to Deacon (first step to the preisthood). The woman became ever so vexed at this, and blocked me.

Why had she blocked me?

Apparently because the ordained friend is also a woman.

I think God is a personal decision. One of the kindest, most giving and loving person I've known was atheist. If you didn't know, you'd swear he was Christian. He acted better than many Christians I've known.
Indeed I would- I am atheist. I also tolerate all cultures/characteristics regardless. What I do not and will not tolerate is intolerance itself. Everyone has their own opinions. 😁
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@Nihiless What you will not 'tolerate' is intolerance

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mandyheart98 · 26-30, F
Some of the nicest people I know that would have my back in any situation are atheist.
Old51 · 70-79, M
@Mandyheart98 i have atheist friends
Old51 · 70-79, M
@Mandyheart98 are you an atheist
Mandyheart98 · 26-30, F
@Old51 I'm not
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Far easier than with any religious fanatics.. Even conservative atheists I have a easier time than any religious fanatics. And I'm totally liberal.
Sutten · 36-40, F
Yes, people are entitled to their beliefs but still be respectful to not force it onto others.
One of my best friends is a christian, and she knows I'm atheist. We know not to talk about religion in each other's company.
redredred · M
I’m too well raised to ask someone religious questions But as an atheist myself I simply don’t care what someone believes.
One of my swedish buddy is an atheist and he the one who truly is an atheist, who respect all beliefs, despite not believing them at all.
Sevendays · M
Sure! I’m even friends with Trump supporters, we just don’t talk politics.
Yes and I am BFF with one
Also married one too
Sure! I'm also good friends with a minister and with a priest.
pride49 · 31-35, M
As an atheist/ agnostic myself. Sure? I don't really care as long as people's beliefs arent up in my face trying to convert
One of my best friends is an agnostic and the other is an atheist....
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I judge people on whether they appear to be a good person or not.
That's my only criteria.
It's better to be a good atheist than a bad Christian,Muslim,Buddhist etc.
JustNik · 51-55, F
Most atheists I know are better Christians than most Christians I know as far as deeds and behavior go. Proclaiming a belief in a god is not what makes a person good.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
Absolutely. There's no doubt about it. And who the fuck am I to judge someone for following their destiny towards being their best self.

But then, now I am only best friends with Allah. So 🙂‍↔

But I want all kinds of friends. Sure, friends!
I am, in fact. I ultimately left the church because I was encountering much kinder atheists and agnostics.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
A religious fanatic will always find fault in your beliefs as there are so many nuances to them. It is much easier to engage with a nonreligious person.
JamesBugman · 56-60, T
Atheist/Realist, is someone that is not easily manipulated. Someone that looks at a book as a book and not some mystical manifestation written by an invisible being from some other dimension. To be friends with a religious person, now THAT is difficult.
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
I'm not into making best friends, anymore. NEVER AGAIN. Just friends.

I have just one Best Friend. Allah.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Refreshing friendships
workathome · 56-60, M
jehova · 31-35, M
fun4us2b · M
Why not if they're a good person....
Berti33 · 41-45, F
It's not an offence an atheist speaking on his reasons for him to bean atheist. But a Christian speaking to someone why he is a christian, it's an offense.
Why that discrimination?
@Berti33 in what way is it an offense to speak about reasons to be a Christian? 🤔
exexec · 70-79, C
Yes, as long as our values are close
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I doubt I would even know.
It depends on the rest of their personality, but it definitely improves their chances over an actively practicing religious person.
thrash · 31-35, M
we could be good friends but not best friends... atheism is pretty hubristic ....and thats comng from the emperor of the galaxy (my gender)
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@thrash that's a post about something you call 'scientism'.

I asked why you feel it's hubristic to have no gods
thrash · 31-35, M
@newjaninev2 connect the dots, grandma

most atheists dispute existence of the supernatural based on physcalist/scientism-esque views -- which is understandable but hubristic: who are you to think that you were born with the biological capability necessary to behold reality in its entirety? to be (capable of being) the ultimate authority on reality? pure hubris.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@thrash 1. there's no proof that gods exist
2. there's no proof that gods don't exist
3. there's no compelling necessity to postulate the existence of gods, and the postulation explains nothing... it merely tries to explain everything away.
4. therefore, I have no gods.

Please identify the hubris
Rolexeo · 26-30, M

Straylight · 31-35, F
People should keep religious beliefs private.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
Not likely, but only God knows. 😏
YoMomma ·
@Ambroseguy80 no problem lol
Morvoren · F
@Ambroseguy80 Lol given what you post here would you say you’re a Christian? 😆
@Ambroseguy80 Your posts seem to suggest you're a deist at best.
BigImo · 26-30, F
I refuse to be friends with anyone who isn't an atheist
