To block or not to block [I Had Lego Blocks]

I’ve never blocked anyone before. I don’t like the idea of shutting out people or closing off opposing points of view, but I am wondering if it would make my experience here a little more enjoyable. I dislike some of the negative posts that offer no redeeming qualities.
Your thoughts, pros and cons of blocking?
Block early, often and without remorse

Nobody is entitled to your attention ... and people post things that are a waste to read.

Blocking eliminates that rudeness and provides a streamlined feed
@Ghostinthemachine there are 100,000 users here
PatKirby · M
@questionWeaver
I wonder if there are any celebrities here anonymously? I remember hearing something about Tom Cruise was trolling on EP back in the day.
@PatKirby i suspect there are a few notorious here
I mute more often.

But if I see it’s a repetitive behaviour of stupidity and senseless talk (example: all they post is about their fetishes or showing their horny naked body), I don’t think twice about blocking.
@CookieCrumbs as a few women have noted, the block/mute button can serve an altogether different function for them than for men. I can’t imagine what you have had to deal with on here. Well, I probably could but I don’t want to 🙈🙉🙊
@Ghostinthemachine
I’ve had a lot of practice on EP with the block button. It allowed me to enjoy the site far longer than I would have had I not blocked people who cluttered my feed.

It’s my feed. It’s my time.
@CookieCrumbs My Feed. My Time.
You should sell that on a t-shirt 😂
Magenta · F
I'm not one for over insulating myself from the world or reality. But when it's utter vulgar trash, rude and crude, I block. I don't subject myself to it in RL so I won't here either.

I use mute more because I don't want to shut them out entirely as they don't always have repetitive annoying mindlessness.
@Magenta the block/mute function does serve as insulation, a barrier to protect your space and time here, so I can see why you would use it. It’s a luxury we don’t always have available to us irl
LadyJ · F
Thank God for the block button 😃🙏
@LadyJ based on what other women have said, no explanation or reasons necessary 😖
JustNik · 51-55, F
I come here to enjoy myself. If someone makes that hard to do, I block them or mute. I don’t feel it shelters me from opposing points of view as I see plenty elsewhere and it certainly does no harm to them. This isn’t the whole world to me so I see no reason not to customize the experience. 🤷‍♀️
@JustNik actually that’s a good point. We can’t, for the most point, customize the world, so why not use that SW given ability to do it here?😁
The way I see it, if it improves my enjoyment of my limited time here, why not, right?
Synyster · 51-55, M
Well, I've been blocked and unblocked twice in one week from Miss Moon. Something is completely off with that woman, especially after accusing me of being Rooster.

Really? I mean we don't even comment/reply in the same way or style. I respond to many posts using a gif, that's my style and who I am.
The Pandemic has definitely affected people's brains. 🙄
@Synyster I’ve been accused of living on the moon, being from the moon, but never for mooning.

Synyster · 51-55, M
@Magenta I agree people need to stop these stupid accusations if they don't have concrete proof.
BTW (she) got her friend (simple) to block us as well, not that I give a shit. 😊

It's like high school here, no wonder I'm not on here that much anymore.
I block those I feel I absolutely have to, but I use the mute button the most as there is just some ridiculous nonsense that people regularly post, and it's easier if the feed isn't full of it, to find something I want to read. Here is not like real life, so for me I want the experience to be positive and enjoyable.
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
@StormInaTeacup Sometimes I am my own worst enemy and block really good people because of crap im going through
@Bushmanoz I know, but you are still a kind person ❤️
@StormInaTeacup That’s why I asked the question, I don’t feel the need for additional stress, worry or anger when reading the feeds. Sometimes I just want to enjoy this place, and waste a few minutes of my time without feeling upset
SmellyBot · 61-69, M
If the posts, probably mine LOL, are depressing you for real by all means block them and regain peace in your heart.

Personally I wish everyone who doesn't have a fucked up savage idiotic sense of humor would block me so I only see my kind of people.

I wouldn't even mind if there was only a handful because I'd rather hang out with 10 fun loving idiots than 10,000,000 dumb fuck whiners 🙂
@SmellyBot with humour, it’s often a fine line between making someone laugh or offending them. People are pushing the line all the time, and sometimes you don’t know where that line is until you’ve crossed it
SmellyBot · 61-69, M
@Ghostinthemachine So how do you feel today about blocking?

The only people I have blocked on here is those who blocked me first. Usually those kind of people block and then later out of curiosity unblock.

Or sometimes they unblock, leave a nasty message, and then block again. smh lol
@SmellyBot those dang preemptive blockers!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I don't block or mute. I like to know what is going on good or bad. I do self ignore some, quite a bit, yet not to the point that I don't know what is happening.

This is just a personal choice that I learned decades ago how to deal with. Blocks and mutes just where not possible then.

Just a point of view. Why would any totally ignore what's going on any news channel even if you disagree with the whole channels philosophy?

I actually disagree with the philosophies of all news channels. They are ALL far too commercial. Yet they still are helpful in emergencies.
@DeWayfarer it’s interesting that you mention the news. I had a discussion with a friend recently about the state of news media. Their goal, first and foremost, is to make money. Also, you have to be aware of who they are owned by to know where they might have a below the surface angle/slant/agenda. For that reason I also try to get my news from several sources, and it’s interesting how differently they present things. It’s not so simple anymore, is it?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Ghostinthemachine no it's not possible. And I do exactly the same.

Was thinking about posting something on China's global scale effects which is never talked about in any news media.

Sure they talk about this or that incident. Yet never the global aspects of all China's doings.

From the European rail trade routes, to their expansion into South American oil, to the war in India to the expansion into South East Asian areas that come close to even Australia.

Australia is complaining big time on that last one.

That probably wouldn't get any audience here yet that hasn't stopped me before with climate change.

Sorry for going off topic! 😁
@DeWayfarer No need to apologize, I appreciate your thorough responses.

I think you should feel free to post anything that you find interesting, and you may be surprised by the responses you get, how many and by whom.

Chinese expansion is definitely an interesting, and can be seen as alarming subject matter
carpediem · 61-69, M
You're entitled to read what you want. Some people are so annoying, blocking them does make the time spent here more enjoyable.
@carpediem thank you for your feedback, maybe I will seize the block button ;)
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Ghostinthemachine Give it a spin. You can always unblock if you change your mind. Or use the mute feature.
@carpediem true. We don’t always have that option irl
chrisCA · M
I don't block, but I have muted some members.

@Ghostinthemachine You're welcome, and don't sweat it. There is a lot that I don't know about this site either. Lol
There are no cons. Idk why yall are so scared to block but its interesting.
@DarlingSelah I may give it a go, just to see how it feels and see if it improves my experience here. I’ll call it...The Experience Project 😁

@DarlingSelah definitely see it both ways, it’s why I’ve asked the question. So you never look back, and wonder what you’re missing?
Ive only blocked a handful. But the mute button is amazing

@BettyBeez I’ve got to familiarize myself with the mute button, I didn’t know it even existed
@Ghostinthemachine its very handy
Casheyane · F
You should totally block. You don't even need a deep reason for it. Do it for your sanity. It helps maintain your peace of mind and it's your right anyway. It's there for a reason.

Some people and their thoughts are just deterrent to your inner peace. You gotta filter them out. It will definitely improve the experience of using SW.

I would know. It does for me.
@Casheyane I have, and I will...again.
Felt...cathartic 🙂

I agree with your sentiment about possibly missing out on a potential connection. How ironic though, you using the word gem considering I just did in my last comment.

I like that term "hidden gems"...that's kinda the way it feels so perhaps we shouldn't impulsively block. This post made me pose deep thought. Thanks for sharing.💛

SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I block troublemakers, who can't go a day without stirring the pot. This is after trying to ignore for a period of time, being that I am a patient person.
@SubstantialKick I’d like to think I am patient as well, but there are definitely those that get their thrills boiling the blood of others. Just another of the many kink categories on here lol
Nothing to gain.

No point letting trivia gain control over your thoughts!
@sspec I’ve been fairly tolerant so far. Just curious about other people’s experiences and reasons.
I do like trivia though!
@Ghostinthemachine enjoy then.
SW-User
Well we women need to block the pervs who send unsolicited dick pics.😖
@SW-User I haven’t a clue what they are thinking or what the plan is there, if they think that’s a good ice breaker. I get the impression women suffer a lot of that, and the reason why I never pm first
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@ghostbehindthebooks] i think .freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and i am glad to see when you here things that you do not like or agree . you do get get negative and unimportant questions and views i do not block anyone for that just those that are abusive
@smiler2012 Yes, for the most part I enjoy hearing views and opinions on matters from all over the spectrum. I guess for me, I struggle with the conflict I see on here, the cruel or hostile remarks people make to each other
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Ghostinthemachine yes agree the admin seem do little about it except make an example of somebody time to time .if you form an opinion which you are perfectly entitled to do. that should be respected whether they agree or not then become verbally abusive
@smiler2012 excellent points. I think people can become aggressive or cruel when they get frustrated or can no longer find the words to express themselves appropriately
juliak413 · 22-25, F
i would say just block but unblock after 5 or 6 years
@juliak413 not sure if I can work on such an extended timeline when it comes to social networking 🤣
SW-User
I really don't care tbh. If I don't like them, why would I not want to block them
SW-User
@Ghostinthemachine 🤷‍♀️
@SW-User hate to see this place with them, but not sure why they would come here in the first place. Then again this place attracts any and all kinds, which is good and bad I suppose

@PatKirby I wonder what comic that is from?
What a lame villain! And is he at a baseball game...knocking out an umpire???

@Ghostinthemachine

Iwillwait · M
I feel the same way, but I have blocked in the past and I will do it again, I'm sure.
@Iwillwait they say once you go block, you can’t go knock...it off ;)

I don't block, but I can understand why others, particularly women, do block on SW.
@luckranger71 yes, just reading a few comments from women and what they deal with on here, it’s amazing any of them stay 😟
SW-User
It's definitely helpful.
To avoid seeing certain contents as well.
@SW-User for sure. There are some things here I wish I could “unsee” or unread, but I can’t
Nobody00 · F
I post negative sht. Is it me? TELL ME TO MY FACE lmao 😆😆
Magenta · F
@Nobody00 But it's honest.
@Nobody00 Did you think I was l referring to you? You’ve mentioned this on another post of mine, and tbh I haven’t noticed you being especially negative. But I can give it some more time 😉
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
I used to feel the same, i am still not big on blocking. i tend to just reciprocate when someone blocks me, but it does make your time here more enjoyable, so I say go for it, you can always undo them
@Bushmanoz think you for your feedback. I may have to hit that button...
I don’t block the fuckers - they block me.
@Invocations their loss

*contemplates what it will take to get blocked by you🤔
I have no problem blocking when necessary. I’ve been the target of racist and sexist pms occasionally and while eventually the admins addressed it, I’d have no way of stopping it if not for the block feature.
@bijouxbroussard that sounds like the perfect reason to use the block feature. No one should be exposed to that kind of harassment on here.🤗
Azlotto · M
I have never used the block or mute features.
@Azlotto me neither...yet ;)

@RogueLoner I haven’t seen to much of the former, but I’m not on here that much these days. It would get tiresome though, and why expose yourself to that, pun not intended
