What were you doing in 1985?

I wasn't born yet, but it's one of my favorite years of the 1980's for some reason.

Worst year of my life. Experiencing serious adolescent angst that caused me to drop out of school and be long-term unemployed. Very isolating. Hated the small town where I lived and had no friends. Took years to get back on track. Everything is different now.

I was 20 - 21 years old at the time. Was a left wing anarchist and hanging out with a small group of friends who were also left wing anarchists, listened to punk rock and lived on the upper floor of a downtown San Francisco warehouse we called "the Cave". I was still trying to find my "art style"/niche. That wouldn't happen until 1988.

I was in first grade. It was pure 80s energy. I remember it like it was yesterday. Purple Rain was the album. What a fun year that was. 🙂

@Zonuss My daughter started kindergarten that fall. The first teacher’s conference right before the teacher started to speak my daughter steps forward and says “My mother doesn’t make me a good & decent breakfast.” I didn’t say anything and the teacher says “What is your idea of a good breakfast?” She replied “Bacon or sausage, fried or scrambled eggs, toast or biscuits, and a glass of orange juice.” The teacher told her “At my house you’d have cereal and milk and you’re old enough to pour that for yourself.” I told the teacher “Well that’s what she gets through the week because a Farmer’s breakfast has too much fat in it to eat every day so I make it for her on the weekend on Saturday or Sunday.” Then when the conference was over we started walking back to the house and I asked her “Are you proud of yourself?” The funniest part was that she had afternoon kindergarten and not only had breakfast but a homemade lunch before she went to school, not a sandwich or something like that, real cooked food every day.
