Electric Cars Are An Expensive Scam

If EVs were really an innovation, the state wouldn’t have to bribe and force companies to produce them.

it’s increasingly clear that the only reason giant rent-seeking carmakers are so heavily invested in EV development is that government is promising to artificially limit the production of gas-powered cars.

Solar power plants are expensive too. Even more so when they get destroyed by a hail storm like the one near Scott’s Bluff, Nebraska this week
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou I have thought about hail damage when I see solar panels on house roofs around here. We have a lot of storms here
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti I spent every summer on my grandfather's farm near there. Even I could have told them that you can't have glass to that extent in areas subject to crop destroying hail storms.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou probably got federal funds to help build it

Yep. Overpriced and not really "saving the environment!" They take hours to charge, you have to map out where the chargers are before any trip and God help you when it's time for a new $25,000 battery. Or if your EV spontaneously catches fire. What powers the electric generation plants that run these? Usually coal-fired or natural gas-fired power plants, no? Not to mention the mineral mining that has to happen to make these cars possible.
@graphite They installed 2 stations in town, hidden in a large metal cabinet is a diesel generator... 🤦🏼‍♂️😂🤷‍♂️

It is pushed by environmentalists who are idealistic and cannot see past their nose. To replace the battery costs almost as much as the car. They don't function well in hot and cold weather and use fossil fuel production to recharge them. Go figure!

@Dacrowman Internal combustion engine batteries only last 3-4 years but cost about $200. No second mortgage needed to pay for a replacement.
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@graphite buy a better battery most will last longer than that
That's way too much for a battery. I don't care how long they last. @Dacrowman
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
My brothers Tesla takes 40 mins to get 80% charge at a supercharger or overnight at home via his solar panels , oh and supercharger is free as part of deal when he bought it. All it has cost him is new tyres after 4 years .
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Dacrowman Good for him.

What was his initial investment?
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
@Budwick $80k Tesla Y
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Dacrowman In 44 years, he'll have beaten me.
Assuming his batteries last that long, and they don't.

Got to get you on the grid/digital gulag. Cant have those disgusting combustion engines giving people freedom of movement now can we.

There are definitely some scams out there…but the scam is money…the concern about slowing how the number of humans are unknowingly harming the environment AND their bodies is real. Most people only read headlines. The truth is in self educating beyond the headlines. And that takes time and work. Sadly corporations are not including consequences to the environment as part of the scientific method. And there is very little attention given to how harmful eating and drinking processed foods, much less convenient plastics. We have been allowed and trained thru marketing and fast businesses that convenience is more important—being faster and more convenient is more important than life itself. Sigh.
The scientific method NEEDs one more step: recycling waste and reducing harm to the environment. And a policy that gives credits that show evidence such work was done. Not JUST for EV’s. Hey, maybe they are hoping that someday there will be plastic blood and that herbicides will heal everyone. So far it only creates problems. Sorry. The cost of EVs is ridiculous, but it was the only way to for BiG3 to care.

There's a push for electric cause they want to be able to shut everything down if you misbehave or whatever.
Olderguy · 61-69, M
Absolutely love my EV and will never go back.

@BizSuitStacy Yes indeed. And it needs to.
@SW-User so, after saying "false" you now admit it's true. You're the sharpest marble on the site.
SW-User
@BizSuitStacy Yes, I admit it's true! And I admit it's true because it pisses you off :) EVs are the future and there is nothing whatsoever you can do about it 😎
It's like hard copy books vs electronic books. Electronic book should be cheaper but they hardly ever are.
SW-User
And I'm delighted they are. EVs are the future. Deal with it🥳
Price a replacement battery before buying…

Verdict: SCAM
Why are they so expensive. They should be cheaper.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout They would be useless in a Mad Max scenario.

You really don't get it, do you

@DDonde
You really don't get it, do you
Sure I do.

The economy left alone would never suck on the EV scam.
So, the government will force it on us.

@MarmeeMarch not trying to start anything..
Petroleum Engineers spend a great deal of time measuring these things. ( I am not an engineer).
However, it along with coal are considered exhaustible assets. The amount of oil that is cheaply accessed is growing smaller.

There is oil in regions that are more costly to extract. The number of Chinese oil operations in a number of nations in Africa is the big tell.

All things in the ground … Li, Gold, silver, Hydrogen etc are all consumed
