I don't pay attention to such things

theweekdy · 22-25, M
I try to be careful with what I’m letting in but sometimes you can only do so much because sometimes you don’t even notice something’s affecting your mood until it’s already sunk in a bit
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
I very rarely watch television these days and in the rare instances where I do watch television, it's mainly when an old movie, or a re-run of an old television program is on.

Other times, I mainly watch what's on a physical video format like VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc or DVD.

Also, I have my own private collection of video cassettes.

And as for physical copies of music, I have many records, a few CD's a bunch of Cassettes and a lot of 8-Tracks.

It inspires me to look the story up for myself. Whether its news, documentaries or if a show/film is based on a book. etc (The trailer for the new Murderbot series looked good, so I'm reading the series before watching the show)
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Yes: I have not TV but I listen to or read whatever I like or interests me.

"Influence" goes as far as the regular publicity of what is coming up, or perhaps suggestions by friends of something they know may interest me; but that is as far as it goes.

I do the choosing, and "fashion" or foolish phrases like "everyone is..." do not enter into it!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Always and it's not just TV or music. Online is just as influential as anywhere else.

Just think of all the advertising at any grocery store that screams "BUY ME NOW"!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@DeWayfarer We definitely agree on this subject.
Yes, media literacy is important. I always pay attention to the choice of words.
caccoon · 36-40
Yes, and i am not much of a media consumer but even so, I think it is hard to avoid, and at times, detect
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
I used to be but now I watch what interests me and what I think I can learn something from
4meAndyou · F
Absolutely. I do not watch gory, bloody, horror movies, ever. I have STILL not seen Jaws, or Psycho.

Although I HAVE seen porn in the past, because the ex brought a bunch of it home, I do not watch television or movies that contain soft porn or porn-like excess in nudity. I find it offensive.

I do not enjoy watching anything about gangs, gangsters, or that whole criminal life choice, and I am offended by any movie that contains loads of bad language.

I can not watch horror movies that are demonic in nature.
I am a thinking person — I can discern what I for influences me and what does not.

It’s a human being thing — you AI bots wouldn't understand
Ducky · 31-35, F
Of course not. I don’t even see how such a situation could even take place, where one is aware that they can be influenced by media and then become so. You’d think that they would be wiser to it if they’re fully aware that media is capable of influencing others.
Now that I’m an adult, less does. There are things that I believe, but they’re founded on several sources.
Tumbleweed · F
Nah. I have a strong enough mind that I don't have to worry about that.
YoMomma · 41-45
Of course.. sigh 😳
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I limit my exposure to the news.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Yes but I watch it anyway
Achelois · F
Yes I struggle to watch Tv, chart music is just awful.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Yes I am. Very careful.

What the hell does that even mean? Influence how? Influence for good things or bad? For purchases? Political bias, what?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@uncalled4 Influence your mental and physical health by keeping the negative thoughts in your head. Like constantly listening to depressing news, for example.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@CrazyMusicLover In that case, too much news media is probably bad.
