Ever been so depressed that you stop looking after yourself?

I'm ashamed to admit that I cant even get myself to eat or clean up after myself lately. Yesterday I forced myself to eat one meal but that was all I had. I havent eaten yet today and I am dehydrated but dont feel thirsty.

yes, that's very common in depression. I'm bipolar and struggle/suffer/am tormented by highs and lows and actually I'm going through this right now. My house is such a mess it's basically unlivable. I've been living with my babys fathers dad until i have the house cleaned. Two weeks ago I painted and remodeled my entire house in four days running off four hours of sleep in between those days. Now this week I can't even pick up my living room.

Being that this is very normal for me unfortunately I have discovered "hacks" and "ways" to cope and still live a normal appearing life. I make it into little games. For example if I'm walking from my living room into my bedroom I will grab a bunch of things out there that belong in my bedroom and just take them on that trip so it isn't all so tedious at once. With laundry, I will put ten items up come back later put ten more things away until it's all put away.

The bathing and eating I have learned to buy a bunch of already prepped food so when I'm too depressed to fix something I can just grab something real quick. Or I will make a bunch of food when I'm manic so when I'm upset all I really have to do is pop it in the microwave. I also eat a lot of cereal and sandwiches when I'm depressed.

For the showering. i look at it as therapeutic. However yes Sadly there are lots of times I'm too depressed to do anything but get in the shower and just sit there and let the water run over me. I feel that's better than not taking a shower at all.

Aww Moon, make sure you keep some liquid in you...you need to do that or dehydration that gets worse can make you very weak or be hospitalized. I've definitely skipped showers and chores when feeling anxiety or depressed. And that's ok if you do, sometimes. How I got out of the funk was realizing I could look at a thought or issue differently... I Didnt have to be a prisoner to it. There's ALWAYS a new thought that is TRUER for you, or path. So know it's going to be Ok it truly is🌻🌹🤗

@MissMoon Anything you feel or are going through, there IS another way of viewing it or a truer, kinder thought for yourself. You're going to get through, you ARE💙💜

Not eating or eating poorly will make you weaker, it will sap your energy and it will make your depression worse. It's a vicious cycle...

I have I went through a period where I was clinically depressed, and didn't change out of the same pair of Jeans and shirt for weeks, didn't eat, probably slept, and didn't use the bathroom. I had to be hospitalized.

@MissMoon I am sorry you are going through this I know how difficult it is, if you stop showering or using the bathroom then I would say you need to seek help.

@MissMoon Glad to know you are seeing a counselor because it sounds like a real depression and you can get better with some help. Also, like everyone else here, I would urge you to drink some water every so often. I have experienced both depression and dehydration and this combination can lead to serious medical conditions. Please take care. You deserve some care or, at least, a glass of water.
If you got that far you deserve praise! I have been there and know how hard it is. I wish I had got a gold start for all of my hard work so you deserve one too.
Yes, I get there.
It's okay to stop eating for a while, but don't let yourself get dehydrated. Have a glass of water every few hours, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Yes. I don't really have issues cleaning after myself... but I get where I don't want to wash my hair and don't eat.

I've visited my best friend again after months and as I sat next to her, it took me less than 3 seconds to realize where the bad smell came from..

Yeah I went through a stage like that I hope things get better for you
