Recently a friend said they don't believe in a Creator because they could make a better reality

So I asked what they really know about reality. They didn't say but asked what I knew. I said I don't know enough to say I could do better. Of course they meant if they made reality it would be all good. Why do people believe a life of purely good would have any meaning?

this was sort of stated as the first try of the Matrix in the Matrix films. and it did not function because people did not believe it. a 2nd possibility is in my mind. people will not appreciate the purely good world that they will create until they have experienced the heartbreaking sadness that this one causes.

@pdxlinux but not just to say i understand good because i experience bad but to put meaning to the good things we choose to do.

Unintelligent design

Fine tuned ? Ridiculous ! A creator god only works ( superficially ) if you limit creation to Earth and the human race.
In such a vast universe, it is reasonable to believe there are other life forms out there somewhere. Your conclusion is based on the idea that god favors us, and we’re the top of the line.
If extra terrestrial life does exist, we can’t know anything about it, outside our earthly confines. The universe is fatal to us. Nor can we communicate or inter act with anyone or anything.
From our perspective, we’re nothing but a speck of paint. We have no way of tell if we’re part of the big picture, or just something that dripped off on to the floor.

P.S. even your friend believes he could do a better job. Hence your post.
Nah, i don't buy that.
If an all-powerful being wanted to create a universe without suffering and have the people he populated it with beings find meaning in their works or thoughts or relationships then it could.
Frankly i think it's likely that we are such beings and the (you can't tell good without bad" argument is just a rescue device used to sooth the cognitive dissonance which results from the problem of suffering.

We don't need people being murdered or wasting away painfully or being abused in order to find meaning in our lives.

@LordShadowfire well I'm sorry that's all you got from this conversation.
@Axeroberts That's all you brought to the conversation.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
Seriously? You're telling me that kids get cancer and people get brain-eating amoebas in order to make your life a little better? What the actual fuck?
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@LordShadowfire I have. But you still see it as a deliberate action and not the bigger picture of life. What about the miraculous things. People surviving horrendous circumstances. Now thank God.
@Axeroberts No. Literally nothing you've said so far has convinced me why all the hell on earth is necessary. I must conclude that you like it.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@LordShadowfire conclude away 🤣🤣🤣
It wouldn't. We wouldn't learn a thing and we would be so bored. Nothing to look forward to except heaven.

Your friend has his head up his a$$, obviously. ONLY God can create universes, and realities, and no human is knowledgeable enough, or wise enough, to create that incredible and magical balance in ecosystems, and in all things. BALANCE is key.
4meAndyou · F
@Axeroberts Yes, and monkeys hoot. 🤣
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@4meAndyou they haven't evolved yet. 🤣🤣

I think people look at it the wrong way. They ask how could a loving God create a world with such evil? But for something to truly exist, the opposite must also exist. Right is meaningless without wrong. We couldn't understand love without hate. So how could we appreciate good if there wasn't evil? And God gave us the ultimate power in which to choose.

@BizSuitStacy Nicely put
@Axeroberts thanks
DocSavage · M
If you believe that good and bad things happen, then where do you see a creator ? Are you saying that it was designed to be random ?
We usually call that chance and circumstances.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@DocSavage most people cannot understand a Creator who is in reality but those are the laws of nature. real. but they believe it is "supernatural" like a fairy tale so it is unbelievable

I like that

@Vengabus thank you

Not with the raw materials on offer, you couldn't. People actively choose evil. If you were God, what would you do with them? Constantly manage their lives for them? What a headache.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@Alyosha exactly. Then why create it if all you are going to do is control it
Accepting reality is not "making" reality. The universe is indifferent.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@BlueSkyKing but who of us knows the "true" reality?
@Axeroberts Like I often say: If it’s not science, it’s superstition. Basic evidence. Detectable, measurable, testable. Made up claims are not evidence.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@BlueSkyKing that has nothing to do with what I am saying

They can’t wake up in the morning all by themselves....(They wake up by Gods will) let alone make a better reality. Very delusional thinking....
