Trying to believe in God, but cannot

Why he let evil people get away?
Like forreal. I'm so angry at him. Have every right to be angry. When a jerk almost killed me and took nudes of me, but walking his life free like why
Doomflower · 36-40, M Best Comment
Yep.

Think of it this way. If god is real, it sits back and watches children get raped. AT BEST it watches and says it will punish the rapist later. That is, of course, unless the rapist is truly sorry and gets saved.

If I could stop someone from raping a child, I would. And regardless of wether or not they are sorry they get punished for even trying. That's the difference between me and god.

@Doomflower He just doesn't exist or he doesn't care.

The Bible has several baby-raping incidents approved by the God character. The Jewish Babylonian Talmud approves of the practice and sees nothing wrong with it.

Jesus said we'll have tribulation but in him we'll have peace. You can complain to God till he all but groans but when you're done thank him because it could have been worse.

Let me consult my God about you but I believe there's a conflict happening inside of you. I'll talk to you when he tells me about you.
LOL! It will talk to you the moment you imagine it does. Imagination works like that. In reality, of course, you'd have a very long wait.

Since you have no need for anything larger than yourself, you have no need for God.
You've got it at last! Well done! Atheists have no need for imaginary friends like "god".

And if you do no inquiry, you are guilty of taking no steps to learn and challenge yourself.
So, have you studied and minutely compared every religion ever?

@nightjourney You didn't answer the question, Why do you feel the need to deride those who don't share your beliefs by claiming "There is messages everywhere at qll times, all places. But u need to be smart and wise to see it.". I presume by "messages" you mean evidence of your specific god.
"There are, after all, atheists who say they wish the fable were true but are unable to suspend the requisite disbelief, or who have relinquished belief only with regret. To this I reply: who wishes that there was a permanent, unalterable celestial despotism that subjected us to continual surveillance and could convict us of thought-crime, and who regarded us as its private property even after we died? How happy we ought to be, at the reflection that there exists not a shred of respectable evidence to support such a horrible hypothesis.”

He will answer for it in front of god
@Justforfun65 That's just wishful thinking. There's no evidence to support that opinion.
Justforfun65 · 56-60, M
@NortiusMaximus just the holy Bible
@Justforfun65 A book of myths is not evidence. The bible makes a lot of claims, often contradicting each other and most of which have been proven untrue.

the last straw for me was looking at the churches. they are supposed to represent what god is and yet there's child sexual assault, racism, homophobia, fear mongering and it's all covered up with a sense of high moral entitlement that is beyond sickening.

and i'm supposed to believe these people when they tell me about things like god, how to live my life and be a good person? nope.
@Graylight You're just trying to deflect criticism from your preferred club.

That wasn't God responsible for those things but Satan..God gives us free will to choose and can allow things to happen that we don't understand..
Sometimes we go through tremendous trials only to be strengthened in him
The fact that you want to as important..
Listen to that voice that's your spirit that is God speaking to you through your conscience even when we don't realize is there he's always with us.
And what his son did for us all of us is incredible that we even have that opportunity because of him and it's free just think what this world would be like it's nobody had a conscience or any moral values that's what's waiting for the people that don't believe a world full of it.. void of love.. and for eternity.
SW-User
@SW-User I am of the opinion that there is no God and no afterlife. That has always been my viewpoint.
SW-User
@SW-User I trust that there are good reasons for things that happen that I'll never know in this lifetime.

@SW-User I most certainly respect your opinion.

Gods Judgement comes after the resurrection.. So justice is not stopped it is just delayed.. And the penalty for those who are condemned at the last judgement is far far worse then anything a human judge could impose upon an evil doer..

This world is evil and a lot of suffering happens, a lot of injustices.. Believing in God gives one Hope for more then simply justice in eternity but also hope for a future eternal existence in a perfect world..

One thing is for sure.. disbelieving in God will not change anything for you in this world.. People will still suffer from random events and acts of cruelty.. God gives us the power to get through this world irrespective of the evil we face here.. Without God we can have no hope for a better future.. The world is extra dark when we have no hope for a future light..
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SW-User I stick to the one that is true... You embrace an evil world.. I don't.. I reject it.. My Kingdom is not of this world.. I am in this world but i am not of it..
SW-User
@Adstar Don't you insult your god by saying his creation is flawed and by rejecting the world he created?

Only seeing this world as evil is also very small minded cause there is a lot more nuance to it.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@SW-User
@Adstar Don't you insult your god by saying his creation is flawed and by rejecting the world he created?

No. Because when God created the world it was good.. God said it was good.. It later became sabotaged by satan by his successfully tempting our ancestors to lose their innocence by adopting the knowledge of good and evil.. Only after this did Gods creation go bad.. So i hate this imperfect world and i long to leave it and enter into Gods perfect eternal existence..

Only seeing this world as evil is also very small minded cause there is a lot more nuance to it.

I do not see the world as only being evil.. Love is in this world and it is a good thing to experience, i also like good music and nice food.. This world is a mixed bag of good and bad.. But when one compares it to a perfect world to come this place becomes a shite hole in comparison and you cannot be satisfied with a slum once you become knowledgeable of a paradise.. Now if you lived in a slum all your life and never knew anything different.. Maybe you would not have any strong emotions on your existence.. But once you know of a better world you will never be satisfied with living in a slum..

He doesn't exist and even if he did why would anyone worship a being that is all powerful yet rather watches us suffer.
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@ Doomflower
so you are going to tell me your god sits and watches a child get raped and does NOTHING in that moment because ... why?

How about this?

If there was a God why would he have to make all people the same?

There are passages in the Bible that address that. For instance =
Romans 9:21 (CEB) = "Doesn’t the potter have the power over the clay to make one pot for special purposes and another for garbage from the same lump of clay?"

If there is a God why would he have to give everyone a soul? If you think about it, the only person you know for sure who exists is yourself. Everything else could be imaginary. In such a scenario you are exposed to all kinds of situations and the purpose would be to see how you will react and if you will do what is "right". Such a thing would be possible if there was indeed a God.

Or suppose we all exist but some have souls and others don't. In that case the people who don't have souls are expendable, such as a child who gets raped in your comment. The intent could be to see what the people who have souls wil do to eliminate such situations. Remember, it was legal in America to have sex with seven-year-olds in 1895, that's 127 years ago. It is still legal to marry a child in some States today.

The problem with believing in such creatures as gods is that you can start to imagine all kinds of scenarios and if there is no God, you would end up in the nut house.
Adstar · 56-60, M
Some people believe in a god.. It is a god of their imagination. A god that will wrap them up in cotton wool and protect them from all harm. A god that will shower them with wealth, success and a great husband or a great wife.. When life throws it's injustices and suffering on them they then cease to believe in the god of their own imagination.. But their god was never God.. Their god was an idol of their own minds..

There is two ways people can go when they come to this point in their lives.. They can seek the real God and find out about the real God or they can reject any god other then the idol god they wanted before.. They where the kind of person who would never have accepted the true God of all existence anyway.. For them it is their idol god or atheism.. So when the world shows them that their idol god does not exist the only path they will follow is the path to atheism..

But in true islam in the quran itsays if you kill one person, is as if you killed all man kind.

My source is the quran... And NO the quran does not say that.. This is what the quran says the jews say.. Not muslims..

Quran 5:
32. Because of that We ordained for the Children of Israel: ( that is Jews ) that whoever kills a person it is as if he killed the whole of mankind; and whoever saves it, it is as if he saved the whole of mankind. Our messengers came to them with clarifications, but even after that, many of them continue to commit excesses in the land.

So it was not a teaching delivered to muslims it was a teaching delivered to Jews..

The very next verse shows what type of teachings where delivered to muslims::

Quran 5
33. The punishment for those who fight God and His Messenger, and strive to spread corruption on earth, is that they be killed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be banished from the land. That is to disgrace them in this life; and in the Hereafter they will have a terrible punishment.

So i often quote the Holy Bible and quote Gospel verses here on SW which according to the quran is spreading corruption on earth so a true muslim would seek to kill me and cut my hand and feet of for sharing my Faith in The LORD Jesus..

It never ceases to amaze me how unread muslims are in their own book.. It looks like to me that muslims are like catholics never reading their books but their religion is only what their priests and imams say it is during their friday or sunday services.. I think more muslims should read their quran in that way many more would be disgusted by it and decide to leave such a religion..

As isis. Jihad are not the true muslims.

ISIS are definitely true muslims they are following the qurans call to wage jihad until there is no more unbelief and all the world submits to the rule of islam.. The devout ISIS guys are slaying unbelievers until they are eventually slain.. They are following the quran like as true muslims..

you believe him to be the son of god. But if he wqs the son of fod that once wqlked the Earth. What does it make us?

I believe Jesus is God. Jesus and the Father are One... Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. Who came down to provide the perfect sacrifice for all the sins committed by humanity through all history.. And why should Jesus walking the earth change anything about us human beings.. We have both a faulty bodies and faulty spirit.. We are all sinners either in deed or is thoughts and also in failing to do the good things we should have done.. God manifesting in the flesh and walking the earth does not then mean faulty human beings become gods..

And plus his mother who was also mentioned in the quran, vergin mary has him without being touched. He was a miricle. How does that make him have a father?

That's right Jesus never had a human father.. Why do you think he is the only One in the Bible apart from Adam who did not have a human father?? Why because if He had a human father he would have inherited the faulty nature of a man.. The fact that God caused the body of Jesus to be planted into the womb of Mary means He was going to be born into this world without the faulty sin nature of man.. Jesus never sinned, but muhammed did.. Jesus was born of a virgin, muhammad was born in the normal way having a human dad and mom.. Yet muslims drag jesus down to the level of just another human prophet, indeed muslim proclaim muhammad to be the greatest prophet the example that all muslims should live like.. It should be obvious to muslims that Jesus is a higher Being then muhammad..

Why wpuld god create all of us if he wants us to kill one another.

If you think this way then you are closer to being a Christian then you are at being a muslim..

Romans 12:17-21
17Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head." 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

II Corinthians 10:3,4
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds."

Jesus Himself wasn't spared. Crucifixion is one of the most horrible ways to go, and he was nailed to the cross. Suffering is part of this world. Those who wrong you will get there comeuppance. Pray to God. Talk to Him. Try Him and see if He won't answer you.

Graylight · 51-55, F
People make the mistake or equating a "God" with never having to suffer consequences, never being hurt, never feeling pain.

Maybe you can think of "God" or the Universe as a great river with a "flow." Follow that flow and the consequences learned will be fewer. Acquiesce and be carried around many impediments along the way. But this doesn't mean the water doesn't get swift, it doesn't mean there aren't hazards and it doesn't mean you can't fight the current any time you like.

We interpret so much in this life and injustice and unnecessary. Pain is not a punishment; death is not a penalty, trial and loss aren't reserved for the wicked or weak. Pain teaches how to learn and how to appreciate pleasure; death is the inevitable conclusion to what may simply be a distraction to our whole selves, a board game of sorts; trial and loss are is unavoidable if love, appreciation and respect for life are to be fostered.

We're not punished any more than the child who touches the hot stove out of curiosity is "punished" with a burn. Life is hard and it's full of rip-roarin' adventure, but that's why we were given the bodies, minds, souls and love of others to get through.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Graylight Okay, so let's talk about fibro dysplasia ossificans progressiva (human statue disease). It's a disease in which the body replaces damaged tissue, not with the same tissue, but with bone. Every single time. Banged your elbow on the table and got a bruise? Muscle is replaced with bone. Had to have your appendix out? The surgical site heals over with bone. This leads to the victim being unable to move at all. Doctors can't even remove the bone, because the body replaces whatever they remove with more bone. The worst part is, it's not technically a fatal disease. You can live for years like this with proper care.

Please tell me how people who suffer from that are being taught to enjoy pleasure.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@LordShadowfire And here's where the scope of a discussion like this threatens to overwhelm the platform on which it's being discussed.

There's no way to understand what lessons and experiences we consented to before we ever got here. Some views hold that the very point of the human soul is (at least in part) to experience fully everything possible here in an ever-generating exercise in divine creativity. Painting with only one brush and color creates a saturated canvas devoid of meaning.

But that's just one belief.

Believing in God and effort don't quite mix that well. It may indeed require all the effort one can muster and still be not enough. I see it like this - God simply doesn't do anything in the world that would make people go, well thanks a bunch God!! Those who do are money grubbing shucksters.
SW-User
It's easy to get angry and shut oneself off from learning. It takes much effort, time and deep desire to learn the truth and to understand and effectively grapple with moral dilemmas. That requires years of reading, inquiry and genuine interest in growing and progressing as a human being, a process to which God calls all of us. If you're not interested in that process, then get used to your own complaining, because you'll be hearing yourself doing a lot of it.
