I'd give anything for my mom's potato flake chicken. Or her cookies.

AlchemyFox’s answer reminded me of how much I’d love to have my grandmother’s stuffed cabbage followed by her coffee cake. I do have her recipe box and have tried to make those things but they’ll never be the same without her generous sprinkling of love.

A strong gin and tonic.

And assorted nuts.

Day-old home cooked lasagna, reheated to perfection.

With a freshly chopped salad. Dressed in a sweet vinaigrette with grated ginger.

And a large slice of cheesecake for pudding.

Strong coffee and a stupidly expensive brandy that somebody else had paid for.

And then a comfy chair to watch the sun go down...

Something that’s not available anymore. I would travel some distance for a cheesesteak sub from our old college hangout. Have never yet tasted one as good - and that was 50 years ago.

Old fashioned fried chicken dinner like we had on the farm. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cream gravy, green beans, green onions, and maybe corn on the cob, homemade yeast rolls, and iced tea. A cream pie for dessert, banana, chocolate or coconut cream. I can’t have gluten foods now so it’s very unlikely to have anything similar to those rolls, I could make gluten-free fried chicken, a bit different but good and gluten free gravy. Everything was made from scratch, the veggies picked right before cooking, pie baked in the morning and chilled, then yeast rolls started, etc.

I learned how to make all my mother’s recipes but would love to eat her cooking one more time.

Shrimp cocktail, Surf and Turf with a side of fries, a Diet Coke with ice, cherry cheesecake for desert.

For me the meal means weeks or days of reflection and possibly days of preparation.

And I would only go through that for someone who is very special to me.

Inversely, when my Mama used to prepare Friday dinner for the immediate family, it was a big deal, very special.

It is the company that I am with which makes it the perfect meal.

A lacy edged fried cornbread cake, like the ones my mom somehow achieved, topped with pinto beans that had been cooking from dried beans for hours. These would be sort of mashed up together along with salt and pepper...and mixed with sweet pickle relish.

Lobster

Drink: Glass of Chardonnay
Side Dish: Garlic Bread with a red sauce dip.
Main Dish: Chicken Alfredo with Broccoli Trunks and Spinach
Dessert: Classic Vanilla Ice-Cream with a Dab of Hot Fudge on top. Small slice of Pumpkin Pie.

Rib roast of beef. Extra crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, asparagus, roast whole onion, Yorkshire pudding, gravy and horseradish. White dry wine.
