SleepingWithGhosts · 46-50, M
I used to all the time.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
Yep. I used to donate regularly but I have an under active thyroid now so can't.
WillaKissing · 61-69, M
Yes, before going into the Army. Then once I left the Army, I went to donate blood, and they asked me if I had been in the service and overseas. I said yes, I was in Asia and the Middle East, and I was told they could not accept my blood.

At first, I was shocked and asked them why, I thought you needed blood donations, and they just said they could not accept my donation. Then I got pissed off and asked why. Was it because of the all the vaccinations was the Army said we had to have prior to going overseas? Which vaccination excludes me from donating? No answers were ever given. I could serve in the Armed forces to protect a nation (I do not care about anyone political thoughts) I served because I wanted too, and now I can't give blood to save a person's life anywhere it may be needed. Ah, another sacrifice from my service I see.

It Angers me to know the military made my blood toxic.
ineedadrink · 56-60, M
@Poppies @WillaKissing It had absolutely nothing to do with vaccinations, as Poppies says. It had everything to do with possible exposure to BSE (Mad Cow disease) based on having been in certain Western European countries years ago. I myself could not donate for years but now can becasue they adjusted the time line for possible exposure. Don't be so quick to make up facts to be outraged over.
WillaKissing · 61-69, M
@Poppies Thanks!
WillaKissing · 61-69, M
@ineedadrink I did not make up facts, just what I have been told when I have gone to the donation centers! I can only relay my real-life experiences.
senghenydd · M
I have donated blood as I have a rare blood group, hopefully they'll have some if I ever need some.
Ontheroad · M
Pretty much all my life - it started when I was a young soldier and lasted all through my military career and on into civilian life until I came to Memphis. Then it got sporadic because the Red Cross doesn't do a blood program here and it becomes sort of a willy-nilly thing. Then when the big C got ahold of me I had to stop giving blood.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Been a regular donor for some years
OldBrit · 61-69, M
My donations must be good the nurse always write A+ on it. 😁
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Yes. Also, back in the day, I used to donate plasma three times a week.
DL2026 · 51-55, MNew
I donate plasma twice a week
JSmith75 · 46-50, M
Yes I have about 15 gallons
anoderod55 · 70-79, M
Going this morning to donate platelets . Think # 217 donation . Platelets and plasma when able . 🦇 🦕
Yes, mostly when I was younger.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard Of all the things that turn out to be something you do when you're younger, I never thought donating blood or plasma would be among them. But I was turned down recently because of the meds I'm on.
@LordShadowfire Same here.
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
Nope but I'd like to if they'll take it. Not sure with all the meds I've been on plus the fact that I'm a habitual cannabis user.
I did, for years, until they stopped taking it.

exexec · 70-79, C
Yes, for many years. When I got to 15 gallons, I stopped.
I use to all the time but being severely anemic now has prevented me from donating the last few times I’ve tried due to my iron being too low

Allelse · 36-40, M

Yeah my doctor sucked it out of me without my consent...never go see Dr. Acula.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
They don't want it
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
I did twice. On the second time, even though I did have a cookie and a few crackers, I got SEVERELY sick after..I felt pain in my stomach so bad, mixed with nausea too..for like four hours straight, it was Awful. At one point I felt I was going to die..I probably should have gone to the hospital. But I finally started to feel ok. I never gave again since that. 😢
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
I tried, but they ask to many questions: Whose blood is this? Why is it in a bucket?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No, I never qualified.
Not any more. Too many Questions..
Wh oh s blood is it?
Why’s it in a bucket?

senghenydd · M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout They run checks, if the blood is OK nowadays, in the past that wasn't the case.
Ontheroad · M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout right? It's in a bucket, stop with the questions and take the damn blood!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@DancingStarGoddess I am now judging you.
