Do you have friends who think it's cool to text you anytime of the night they feel like, but if you text them past 8pm they get upset.

Does this upset you? Do you say anything about it?
Adrift · 61-69, F Best Comment
Nope because I have a do not disturb set on my phone after 9pm.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Adrift Very smart.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@Musicman my stared contacts (my kids) are the only ones that can text me after 9pm, in case something happens and they need to get ahold of me.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Adrift That definitely makes sense. A good friend of mine works nights and sleeps during the day. He has his phone set up like that. Only his daughters and brother can get through during the day.

Anyone with my number or socials can text me. But whether or not I care that's another thing. 😂

Different people have different circumstances and needs. For example a friend to my boyfriend's has a 3 year old. If his phone calls after 8 when his son is put to bed. He'd be upset if his son wakes up.
That's understandable.

Or someone who has to leave for work super early. But normally these people keep their phone on mute to prevent that.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Queendragonfly Mine is set to mute, but it still vibrates. Being on a wooden nightstand that makes noise. I finally put a small towel under it. That absorbs the vibration and no more noise. 🙂
Nope because those aren't friends. Those are users and i cut all of those people off.
I have friends that I have spoken with at great length in the middle of the night. I work full time nights so I welcome the interaction. When I didn't work nights I wouldn't like any calls past 11 pm as work started early. I often rose at 5 am. If someone needs me, the time they text is irrelevant. I am here for those I care for and I love anytime.

Nope. I keep the ringer on my phone off, and I let the phone sleep when I am not actively using it. If and when I feel like looking at my calls and texts, I do, and usually delete them immediately. I do all of my emailing and DM's on my laptop...and it never makes noise.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou Smart idea. 🙂

i never reply to text messages and hardly ever check them either. I have over 50 unread texts on my phone and no motivation to check them. Everyone i know is told this, yet they still send them.
I also never text anyone or call anyone, so I wouldnt know how friends would react to it.
deadgerbil · 22-25
Nah, that is very weird. I can text anyone at any time and they can text me at any time. I'd get annoyed with a phone call bc that actually creates a disturbance but a text is so innocuous the person would have to be a Karen to be upset over it.
Repete · 61-69, M
Not really, I’ve told them if it’s an emergency it’s ok but if it’s not an emergency don’t expect a reply the next time even if it’s an emergency.
I’m not a fan of texting anyways, I use my phone to talk on and they also know that.
exexec · 61-69, C
My friends know that I turn my phone off when I'm ready to stop getting texts or calls. If it's an emergence, they can call my wife.
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@musicman] 🤷‍♂️cannot see what the beef and big deal a case of do as i say and nolt text me late on but not as i actually do
SW-User
It's simple ..I will text back when I can
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SW-User I promise you, I definitely don't text back during the night. I set my phone to quiet, but it vibrates. A vibrating phone on a wooden nightstand makes enough noise to wake me up. So I put a small towel under the phone and that was enough to absorb the noise and now I sleep well again.
SW-User
@Musicman or just switch it off ..
I don't see a problem
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SW-User You are right. It just annoys me that it happens. 🤷‍♂️ It's just me.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
My phone is permanently on silent
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Thevy29 That's very smart.

I rub it in their fucking faces until they're not my friends anymore. It's really the only way ppl learn, or at least learn not to bother me.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SnailTeeth Interesting 🤔

Musicman · 61-69, M
@Donotfolowme The hypocrisy of this just blows me away. Don't text me in the middle of the night. Just don't!
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
@Musicman In my case they say why dont you put your on silent mode than screaming at us
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Donotfolowme Doesn't that piss you off. 😡
I have a strict 9pm rule for most people, except for my BFF, because of the hardships she's going through being technically homeless, currently sleeping in a run down 70's era travel trailer, and addicted to crack and severe seizure disorder. However she is voluntarily signed up on a waiting list for inpatient rehab because she wants off the shit, it's a 90 day program that will help her find housing once she completes it, and help her with disability benefits for her seizures.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 I hope that isn't for a long time to come. Is your mom still alive? How is her health? Sadly both of my parents are gone now. 😢
@Musicman I hope not as well. Yes, she is, but as far as her health I couldn't care less. My Dad died when I was ten in early 1981, and she made my life hell after he died. I should also add that she always opposed anything I did in life, criticizing everything, and even took my former lawyer's side, because they were friends from her church.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 I am sorry to hear that. 💔😢
