It depends upon the views, to be honest. I’m strongly pro-choice, old school feminist and supportive of the LGBTQ community.
Even so, I’ve been able to maintain friendships where we don’t discuss politics at all. 😊

Yeah. Not everyone thinks the same & we can't force them to. If someone believes something, we ain't changing their mind so no point in wasting energy on an argument that won't go anywhere. I understand that people have different POV's & different reasons for coming to their conclusions so I don't treat anyone differently over their thoughts & opinions, politically at least
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
Yes. I have friends (here and in real life) on the far right and the far left and everywhere in between. I'm myself an somewhere just right of center. 🙂
HiFiRaver · 18-21, M
I don't care if someone disagrees with me on political issues, if they don't see eye-to-eye on the best approach to education or health care or feel differently about certain politicians or activists. But for example, as an LGBT person, I don't think I could be friends with someone who didn't have a basic level of respect for who I am. I'm not going to pretend to be someone else for their sake. A Christian friend was saying the same thing to me: she can definitely be friends with atheists or people from other religions, but they can't belittle or mock her beliefs--you just don't want to be around people like that.
I've been blocked by a few users for expressing pro-Palestine views, so definitely not everyone can get along with users they disagree with. Which is probably for the best. I'd rather you block me than go on a tirade against me. 🤷🏼♂

I have been friends with some for years in the past. Even on this site. Yet this administration has caused even the few to block me.
I don't block anyone. I have not changed my political views one tiny bit in decades. Not even about blocking others have I changed in decades.
Yeah I have been on the Internet that long. It's definitely just this administration.

I can and I have with several friends. One of my friends at work and coworker as well he is more to the left center, but I just try and stay neutral to all of it. My other friend who is out of state, he is more on the right. My coworker has more rational thoughts than the out of state friend.
But I just try to keep an open mind, and treat people with kindness and respect :)

I can get along with just about anyone, even if they don't share the same political views. Being sensitive to other people's perspectives (even if they are starkly different than mine) is an important part of healthy relationships. I try not to judge, and I hope that other people don't judge me. We all have different life experiences that help mold us into who we are.
Nightwings · 31-35, F
Absolutely not, because it's always something extreme. I cannot get along with someone who has views which are literally hurtful to me, or in my eyes make them terrible people. If it was just little things then it wouldn't be a problem at all, in fact I prefer talking with people who don't agree with everything I say, because I like discussing various topics with friends.
nazgul · 26-30, F
Usually no. Political beliefs are rooted in your value system. I don't get along with people that don't value the things I do.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Yes, I don't feel the need to always discuss everything political.
In fact, I rarely do, although, I do have some strong views. It's not important to me to spout those views off all the time or try and make someone agree with me.

Yes, depending on degree.
I can easily be friends with other leftists, centre-left, centrists and even some conservatives of more moderate variety.
Disagreement on whether we should spend more on infrastructure vs education is 100% fine. Disagreement on whether LGBT, women and PoC should have rights isn't.

The culture of American politics is to fight about them. Our system is designed that way for a reason. It’s to control. So if you do get along with different views, you’re not being the ideal American our politics would want. That being said, I’ve never been the ideal American.
Classified · M
Normally I don't express my political opinion and don't react to political posts that I don't agree with. Makes it more easy to get along with people.
Elessar · 31-35, M
Depends on the degree. I'm moderately left and I can get along with someone moderately right just fine.
I won't get along with fascists, stalinists and such.

sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Elessar That's why we can be the friends that we are. You are center-left and reasonable about it. I am center-right and (I hope) reasonable about it. 🙂
Alyosha · 31-35, M
I do and have. I suppose I'm still left wing but like, Bill Maher left wing. I don't see everything through the lens of oppression.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
Eh, not really, not when politics is in our pants, pockets and personal business. Not with a president like trump. I don't think anyone in their right mind still supports him, and yes I do take issue with those who do.

I don't discuss politics too much, so I think mine are a mystery to most people. I'll happily chat with anyone on here as long as they're polite
Atlotto · M
Yes, I have several friends here (and in real life) that don't share the same political views.
JackDaniels · 46-50, M
Yes, everyone is entitled to what they believe. I dont force mine on anyone.
Iwillwait · M
Absolutely, let's just not focus on wasting our time talking about politics. I find it rather boring and wasteful to begin with.
Acheron · 41-45, M
I can keep it respectful. I imagine to a point there are some views that could distant me. But I’m not going to argue or debate over it. Pointless exercise.
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
I don’t do politics… I hate it all equally haha
As long as nobody is cramming their thoughts on it all down my throat, we will get along just fine

Although I consider myself social liberal, fiscal conservative I can deal with the 🙄 Trump supporters.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Lostpoet same (you said can right ? )
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Sure thing. I can respect their opinion as much as I hope they can respect my opinion.
I can up to a point. But if it gets too extreme then I have start keeping my distance
Matt85 · 36-40, M
yeah. politics is too complex to fall out with anyone over.
romell · 51-55, M
Yes with a caveat we agree to disagree on political matrers
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
I give what i get. We can express views all day long but if you get an attitude i will match your energy
AdaXI · T
Yeah more often than not they live in a different country with a different system so political views ain't really something we'll spend much time talking about .

I refuse to discuss politics and religion on here, so I get along fine with them as long as the topic is not political. If they insist on inserting politics into every discussion, I mute them.
GuiltyBiStander · 31-35, F
No one shares my political views - because my view is that most poltics are like STDs.
And so when someone tells me " You just don't get it", I say thank you very much ✌

Also, you are asking for a flame war with this question.

Only if they are reasonable. Otherwise, no. I just block them, often before we ever converse.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Of course I can. I don’t limit it to politics either . I include religion , diet , etc..
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
Yes I can. I just don't have political conversations with them.
StarLily · 51-55, F
I can, yes. But can they?🤷🏻
Houdini · 56-60, M
I think I can get along with everyone
Lugwho · 61-69, M
I can, but not as much as I used to.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
Idc what others believe, but some people on this site feel the need to shove their opinions down your throat and make everything political.
SomeMichGuy · M
If we can agree on basic facts, then how we look at them is where the discussion flourishes.
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
Very few, but I find it difficult when someone worships a political leader.
