Tbh no matter what's being said, the USA's right wing is really mild compared to what's out there for the rest of us.

I mean some of them even support gay rights and are openly irreligious.

I remember just 6 years ago when I was in high school, being an atheist was almost unheard of and only a minority claimed the word "feminist". I'm not even going to talk about the treatment of lgbt+ and immigrants. My chemistry professor called me Bakunin for being open about these issues and questioning very common "jokes" and what not.
And now they act like they are afraid of "cancel culture" and "woke people". We are just getting started. It's just what they thought was "normal" for all their lifetime being questioned now. Imagine living in fear of being yourself for all these years. Like even just for wearing something. I'm still very alert whenever I see men dressed in a more "feminine" way in public transportation, for example. I think what if someone attacks them out of the blue?
Some people think just because someone won't tolerate insults from them and will talk back, they have their freedoms taken away.
That's interesting. In Egypt it's even worse like this professor despite not agreeing with your views he didn't try to actually harm you.
Just two years before getting into my college a guy from my city who's Atheist tried being open about LGBT after this professor kept saying how being gay is a mental illness. He got so offended after the guy simply said that they are just people like you and me. Next thing he calls the police on the guy and then all the other students signed a thing (not sure what to call it like a form thing) and got the guy kicked out of college.
He's a youtuber now and on one video he was talking about the professor and he put his picture and I discovered that he teached me for 2 years and was on my FB friend list 🤢. He was so self-righteous and weird.
Sometimes I wonder what the situation would be like if they asked me to sign on their stupid paper.

It's just dumb doing all that for an opposite opinion. And then they wonder why things are so corrupt and bad.
@HannibalAteMeOut
If I go to a more liberal place I'll feel great. If they go to a more conservative one, they'll want to leave. That's our difference.

Exactly!

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether Wow imagine being afraid of LGBT people that you call the cops on LGBT supporters because you're that scared lmfao and they say there's no such thing as homophobia, yeah right. That's fear if I ever smelled it.
@SatanBurger Yup homophobia and islamophobia are just figments of the evil free world imagination.

Yeah I really do think that among all countries, the US tends to hover comfortably above average outside of the issue of climate change. The problem is that we're so powerful that our worst instincts are incredibly pernicious to foreign countries that aren't so strong, even in doses less than or equal to that of your average global citizen.

That said, our stance on climate change is dramatically worse than almost any other nation on the face of the Earth and history will certainly condemn us harshly for that. And in the little neck of the woods where I grew up, it was kinda social suicide to dress feminine and identify as an atheist in HS... but at least it's better in the cities & shit.

edit: I also fully believe that if republicans take power, we're gonna end up eventually becoming as bad as Russia is now, but at least we're far off from there temporally.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@BlueVeins become as bad as Russia in what sense? And if next elections republicans take power, how long do you give it until this happens?

Domestic policy and general authoritarianism, I guess. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see journalists being executed and speaking out against religion being a crime. Rollback of anti-discrimination protections, arbitrary rule eroding away economic output, decriminalized wife beating, and other degenerate shit.

And if next elections republicans take power, how long do you give it until this happens?

Honestly, that's not the scenario I'm concerned about, because as long as Republicans are gaining and losing power electorally, they're still having to compete for votes, which prevents them from enacting most of their ideology. The reds take and lose power all the time and things stay basically the same.

No, what scares me at this point is the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Independent State Legislature doctrine in Moore v. Harper. Basically, Republicans have been taking all kinds of measures to give themselves more and more power over the election system, and there's gonna be a tipping point sooner or later where they can use the power they've gained to eradicate what remains of the electoral system.

After that point, I'd give it maybe 60 years before we become as bad as Russia. Enough time that the Americans in the workforce then won't have a living memory of democracy, and therefore won't expect much better. But as we've seen with Nazi Germany, it could happen faster, which is frightening since we mirror them now more than anyone else.

@MalteseFalconPunch true, I was thinking of the average people. I mean if I were to talk about governments... I hate all of them. Governments and banks alike. I think the USA seems so nationalistic and imperialistic because it does hold power. I feel if you gave all this power to my country, we'd have double the war crimes that are happening right now 😬 Maybe I'm exaggerrating but it does feel like that at times.
Viper · M
@MalteseFalconPunch I sure don't know the world's numbers, but they claim gun violence is a lot worse here.

Of course that's based on the stats that the FBI collects and a lot of counties don't submit their crime numbers to the FBI, so I don't know how it compare to a lot of Middle East Countries.

My chemistry professor called me Bakunin
What's the context, or what did he mean by that? Sorry I don't get the reference.

The part that scares me, is certain parts of the right wing want to be able to eliminate the election if they don't win... or eliminate the power of any non-Republican that wins. Where it's not an equal and fair system.
Viper · M
@HannibalAteMeOut
Yeah I can see that... I hope they're just words and no actions.
In Wisconsin, the Democrats won and the Republican Congress basically limited their powers as much as possible. Though that's just one state.

In Pennsylvania, we have a guy running for Governor whom claims he'll be decertified voting machines that doesn't agree with his thoughts... outlaw abortions, and try to make gay marriage illegal, though based on current polling (if correct) he should lose... but he shouldn't have even won the primary.

But your right, in a lot of areas, it would be much worse than that... such as if you upset the wrong person they'll kill you.

Of course that's true in America too... just not as public about it.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Viper wow they're really doing everything in their power to ignore democracy... I'm sorry it's all happening.
Viper · M
@HannibalAteMeOut So far that's just one state where they're doing it, but others in other states are threatening to do it...

Usually guys that Trump's backs... but a lot of them aren't doing so well in the polls, of course the polls can always be wrong...
SatanBurger · 36-40, FVIP
Yeah but there's always a chance for the right wing to become more extreme, their words are worrying sometimes. They think they just say "words" but it more comes out as thinly veiled threats. It's kind of like a lover who insults you but you can't prove they'll do anything so they get away with it.

What I'm afraid of is the right winged tactic of trojan horses. This is just an example but I like to think of TERFS, those anti trans "feminists" that espouse liberal ideals but are strangely far right winged. Underneath, they're really right winged trojan horses. Their whole group is based off of anti trans rhetoric while also getting the moderate vote. There's other examples, many politicians are like that.

Some people in the West feel so hard done by.
They have no idea what a true dictatorship is, or what a real Communist state is like.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@chrisCA even those who have lived through dictatorships, they forget after some years. They would fight the common enemy and then start fighting their comrades.
chrisCA · M
@HannibalAteMeOut As is in what happened in Greece?
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@chrisCA yeah exactly. And I think it happens pretty much everywhere. People rarely learn from history.
SUPERVlXEN · F
It's truly a global issue. I could add a lot more but my first sentence actually beholds it all.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@SUPERVlXEN for real... how did the whole world come to decide on the same fcked up "values" is beyond me.
SUPERVlXEN · F
@HannibalAteMeOut
It's not a new wave. Unfortunately. We were there before, and personally I had hoped history had helped us learn the lesson. However, with the lack in education and interest in democracy it seems to matter less.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Look at history and be concerned. When minorities are targeted, and the perpetrators get support from the government, you are on a slippery slope to a totalitarian existence!
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
And yet in the mind of leftists the right wing is somehow shifting more right. I routinely hear them say that centrists are alt-right, just wtf?
Right-wingers in the US have finally learned they can weaponize the gay lifestyle against non-whites
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
There is definitely a lot worse out there right now. The problem with the US right wing is that they are aggressively regressive. If they win their current battles, they will advance the line to bring more rights into question and attempt to end those too. We're in a better spot now, but we have to keep fighting to stay there.
