Tbh no matter what's being said, the USA's right wing is really mild compared to what's out there for the rest of us.

I mean some of them even support gay rights and are openly irreligious.

I remember just 6 years ago when I was in high school, being an atheist was almost unheard of and only a minority claimed the word "feminist". I'm not even going to talk about the treatment of lgbt+ and immigrants. My chemistry professor called me Bakunin for being open about these issues and questioning very common "jokes" and what not.
And now they act like they are afraid of "cancel culture" and "woke people". We are just getting started. It's just what they thought was "normal" for all their lifetime being questioned now. Imagine living in fear of being yourself for all these years. Like even just for wearing something. I'm still very alert whenever I see men dressed in a more "feminine" way in public transportation, for example. I think what if someone attacks them out of the blue?
Some people think just because someone won't tolerate insults from them and will talk back, they have their freedoms taken away.

Yeah I really do think that among all countries, the US tends to hover comfortably above average outside of the issue of climate change. The problem is that we're so powerful that our worst instincts are incredibly pernicious to foreign countries that aren't so strong, even in doses less than or equal to that of your average global citizen.

That said, our stance on climate change is dramatically worse than almost any other nation on the face of the Earth and history will certainly condemn us harshly for that. And in the little neck of the woods where I grew up, it was kinda social suicide to dress feminine and identify as an atheist in HS... but at least it's better in the cities & shit.

edit: I also fully believe that if republicans take power, we're gonna end up eventually becoming as bad as Russia is now, but at least we're far off from there temporally.

@BlueVeins become as bad as Russia in what sense? And if next elections republicans take power, how long do you give it until this happens?

Domestic policy and general authoritarianism, I guess. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see journalists being executed and speaking out against religion being a crime. Rollback of anti-discrimination protections, arbitrary rule eroding away economic output, decriminalized wife beating, and other degenerate shit.

Honestly, that's not the scenario I'm concerned about, because as long as Republicans are gaining and losing power electorally, they're still having to compete for votes, which prevents them from enacting most of their ideology. The reds take and lose power all the time and things stay basically the same.

No, what scares me at this point is the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Independent State Legislature doctrine in Moore v. Harper. Basically, Republicans have been taking all kinds of measures to give themselves more and more power over the election system, and there's gonna be a tipping point sooner or later where they can use the power they've gained to eradicate what remains of the electoral system.

After that point, I'd give it maybe 60 years before we become as bad as Russia. Enough time that the Americans in the workforce then won't have a living memory of democracy, and therefore won't expect much better. But as we've seen with Nazi Germany, it could happen faster, which is frightening since we mirror them now more than anyone else.
