Do people in other countries complain all the time? I live in the U.S. and people just seem to whine and complain about just about everything almost.

I work retail so I might notice it more than the typical American would. I'm just wondering if complaining about everything is just an American trait or is true of people in general.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I think it’s very common anyplace with a high standard of living. The more people have at their fingertips, the less satisfied they are with anything.
Cloud7593 · 46-50, F
@JustNik very true

@JustNik I agree.

I think the more developed the country, the more whining and blaming takes place. In the U.S. it's become a true driver of our politics and society. And it's only getting worse. Since most Americans don't travel there's no context for how others live. And they don't care. But what really gets me is that the whiners and blamers who need enemies are whining about the wrong enemies. They support the very people who screw them them most but go after those already disenfranchised and struggling. The lowest hanging fruit. Hate and fear is the lane of way, way too many Americans.

Victimhood is so in vogue these days, especially in places where people live better than Imperial Royalty, like the US.

@SandWitch There might have been wine served with the meal of pigeon I had in France once. (Nobody told me what it was until afterward - thought it was chicken.) Otherwise, no alcohol at all in Europe.

Americans who visit the UK say that we complain more.

But they are complaining about us complaining so there you go.
Blondily · F
People everywhere in all countries complain

I think people complain more now, but maybe that's good. Why put up with something if it's not right. Whinging without doing anything can be annoying though.
Cloud7593 · 46-50, F
@SW-User It depends on what they're whinging about. I'm mostly talking about the ones who are never satisfied with anything.
SW-User
@Cloud7593 Yes. There is a lot of that. Very irritating.

As a person who has been to other countries , I can positively say that they do complain, it’s a normal human reaction. But I can also tell you, that Americans have a sense of entitlement that is higher than most countries I’ve been to. The “customer is always right “ culture is very strong in the U.S. , and creates an environment that “ If I’m paying I can be an a$$&ole and that’s alright “ .
Strongtea · 22-25, M
It tends to happen a lot in the UK as well.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
I think the retail sector is where it all started. Generations have been brought up to think that the customer is always right and that everyone will down tools and listen to them if they make enough noise and behave like an over-grown baby. People should broaden their own experience and put themselves in the shoes of others before complaining and making criticisms that accomplish nothing.

I live in the UK and people whine and complain about just about everything here too.

The effects of inflation hit more than just one's wallet. It can promote stress and anxiety especially when budgets are tight to begin with. That could be a contributing factor. Also, as you suggest, you deal with the average person perhaps more than most.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Some totally do. And then there are many who just go with the flow when things are objectively bad and could be improved if they complained to the competent person. They just shrug: "it won't work anyway", without even trying.

I think only super old people complain about everything and I give them a free pass at that

Many people who complain though are just people who have no gratitude in their lives
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@Jenny1234 i work as an ER nurse. Older patients complain less than the younger snowflakes
@Patriot96 I think I agree with this! 👆🏼
spencer6 · 22-25, F
As a German, yes, I feel like complaining is everywhere and I think it’s understandable but also annoying because you’re dealing with the same thing, rising prices, family drama, loneliness etc

I first of all think it's an age thing. When people become old with aches and less energy it's easy to become grumpy if you aren't a usually optimistic person.

The more luxuries people have the more they complain because when you are a spoilt brat the slightest inconvenience sets you off. Notice how many Karen's are in first world countries for instance.
I have been in retail as well before and def noticed it's the people that have everything complaining that not enough lanes are open or they have to pay a penny more for their snackie cakes or have to pay taxes. Or that other people that are disabled they get jealous of thinking they get free money and not realizing those with disabilities probably have a shit life in comparison to them.
Spoiled spoiled spoiled.
Cloud7593 · 46-50, F
@Renaci That's pretty much it. Spoiled brats are always struggling with their environment. Nothing ever suits them.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
On SW world,it does seem to this Englishman,that it's the Americans who do complain the most.But in every country people do,it's natural..
