If any of my friends or other people have questions about ECT.

I’d talk about it. I’m not ashamed or shy about it. It is what it is. Just please try not to be cruel with your question and I’ll try to answer. Keep in mind I’m not a Dr, I’m a patient… so I may not know like technical stuff.

My answer to you is not a question but more of a statement.

Anyone that cannot understand that health issues are not just limited to a cut in the finger, a broken leg or perhaps cancer, should not give a biased reply to something they do not grasp. People are so judgmental with those that think, act, are different because their limited vision does not want to understand that there are people can also suffer from being different. This suffering does not have to be physical but is, most often, emotional.

Thus, I wish you well and that you can have your issue better under control, that it does not affect your life too much and that you teach a lesson to all those that can be mean to you because you are different.

Beauty, quality and uniqueness comes from the inside and those that criticize never see those qualities because they don't bother to look beyond the shell.
@Stephie it’s not all been pain. mixed in with my pain is hope too. I try to remember that. light and love. 🦋

@JustGoneNow You know, Robin Williams is mostly remembered for his funny lines and roles but the one role in my mind that he played with immense talent and conviction was "Patch Adams" from 1998 where he made me cry to tears.
@Stephie it was a wonderful film.

You're incredible brave... You just don't recognise that...
@Convivial she’s an angel. I’d be so lost without her.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@JustGoneNow we all need people like that in our lives
@Convivial this scene from Homeland show on Showtime is the most realistic, I’ve seen to how it is actually now administered. The dream part is just where her mind goes as the anesthesia begins to kick in before they administer the pulse and her body seizes.

Long ago my mom was scheduled for ECT but eventually they opted against it thinking they would cause irreversible damage when she had been hospitalised. She is on strong meds and will always be but overall stable. I won't lie. I got worried reading this.
Rilyn · 31-35, F
@JustGoneNow I'm sad listening to this. I get that your battle has been harsh and brutal but....ECT? Is it really the only solution? I heard the side effects are harsh and I understand what you're telling me in different contexts. I'm here if you want to talk. Just want you safe and happy that's all :/ <3
@Rilyn I appreciate it. I’m just trying to heal right now. Giant hugs. 🖤🫂

@JustGoneNow Take your time, at your own pace and find the right support to heal babe. Tightest hugs right back to you even though I'm far. ❤️🤗

Are they doing uni or bi lateral?
@kodiac yeah. I just thought that I was done with that. Last time was like six or seven years ago, I think. Just kinda tired of being me, I guess. They do always give me a mouth guard thing to bite into. Probably so you don’t bite your tongue when you seize.
kodiac · 22-25, M
@JustGoneNow yeah i used to have to sleep with the mouth guard .It does help you though right?
@kodiac somewhat debatable. it’s made the visions and delusions less. I’ll say that. they said it would help with my bipolar too, but I’m not sure it’s done anything at all actually for that. being really honest, my schizophrenia had me locked in a near constant delusioned and visioned state almost 17 years ago, and medication wouldn’t even touch it at that point. So, grudgingly… I have to say yes. It’s most likely the reason I was able to get out of long term care at all. I have less faith in it now, as it sort of seems to be the law of diminishing returns, but whatever. We’ll see how this time goes. I just really hate the side effects. As you know, there’s no pain but I feel like I lose parts of myself each time. That might not be true but it is how it feels.
Lonelyandyb · 36-40, M
You have had it?
Is your memory intact?
I heard it messes with your memory
@Lonelyandyb
Yes.

Mostly, I have lost some things.

It does but much of it comes back within a few weeks to a few months. It’s short term that’s affected the most, but there’s always something that’s just gone forever afterwards.
robb65 · 56-60, M
I'm glad you're back and i hope it helped.
@robb65 I’ve had before, so we’ll see how this time goes. I hope so too.
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
You're very sweet 🌸
@assemblingaknob ty very much. 🌸
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I was wondering if you had it by your previous post but I didn't want to be intrusive and ask.

I truly hope it helps you, it can save lives.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@JustGoneNow hopefully more maladaptive parts than not. I'm sorry it seems to have diminishing returns, that's disappointing.
@Starcrossed I can’t deny what it’s done for me from the start, though. I was most likely never leaving the hospital before.
@Starcrossed at least now, I have a chance at life.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
That’s so good of you to offer people to ask about it 🩷. I know about it from my Mom going through ECT.
@iamonfire696 I’m sorry that you deal with such pain and a spouse that is not very understanding or sympathetic. I would wish different for you too. 🫂
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@JustGoneNow Thank you for being a friend and caring 🩷
@iamonfire696 of course. you’re my friend. 😊
