What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Top | New | Old
Ducky · 31-35, F
"Don't be sorry, just try again."

My mom would always tell me this growing up whenever I'd attempt something and get it wrong, then apologize for doing so. It's something I repeat to people I'm mentoring now when they do the same. Being sorry for failing at something doesn't help anything. Learning from it and bettering yourself does.

@Ducky Great Advice.

Save a dime of every dollar you make for retirement. Don't look at it as 10% of your earnings, but just that change you tend to waste splurging on something soon forgotten.

I assigned 10% of my paycheck to an IRA so I never saw it (matched by my employer) from the get go, despite living hand to mouth and wondering how to make some mortgage payments. As the paychecks grew, I periodically increased the deduction until I hit the maximum. Wasn't easy initially. But the reason I could retire early and am still living well headed to age 90.

I dont know if it was the best but it was definitely ground breaking in my life. I was told that I needed to do what was best for me and what makes me happy.
Every advice is a good good advice, depends on how you yourself analyze it and act.
