I was known as the pregnant girl so nobody really wanted to be friends with me but I was nice if they gave me the time of day
@MommaBear That's f*cked up! So much for acceptance and inclusion.

Stressed a lot of time but still I managed to have two groups of friends. One year I was out almost every Friday evening having fun. That lead to my only relationship that fell apart pretty much with the end of hs.
Within our class, I had two friends and that was it, there were some neutral girls I interacted with on a small talk level but I never initiated any conversations with anyone else unless I had to. I was happy in our small bubble of 3 girls.
I wasn't the best student despite putting effort into studying. At least that's what I thought. 😅 Looking back, I know I didn't have excellent discipline and slacked a lot of stuff but geez, I'm only human, I needed rest and some fun too.
Ditched class every day and still pulled A's and B's, and the school principal hated me. Not like I was a troublemaker or anything, I had extenuating circumstances so most of my teachers agreed to give me good grades if I could pass any test they gave me. They actually went toe to toe with the principal, he didn't want to allow it but he only had the gym teacher on his side.
I read a lot!

I home-schooled and worked on our farm. I was adopted away from a severely abusive and destructive situation. Being traumatized at a very young age caused me to be violent around my peers because I had social anxiety, and the only tool in my bag was to hit.

I grew out of that and became shy, especially in my first year of college. But within a few years I was well adjusted.

@TexChik Good outcome after a very shaky start. Glad it’s worked out for you.

I enjoyed high school because it was an escape from home life.

Played the sports. Captain of the football team. Was the Mr. of the school. Somewhat smart, so I got along well with the jocks, smart kids, and theatre/drama kids.

I wouldn’t say I fit in with one group over the other though. But I enjoyed it.

@BillyMack It’s interesting to read that you are one of many young people who liked the structure of school as an escape from the uncertainty of home life. Sometimes I would speak to youngsters who came in with the world on their shoulders and I would encourage them to just forget that for the school hours and enjoy lessons and their friends. Thanks for confirming that this was the right approach.

Very ordinary, shy and sadly and unmotivated. Grew up suddenly at 16 and the world changed and I grabbed the opportunities presented in a totally different way in the senior years.

I was a goth kid before it became trendy, I was in drama, art, and I was a punk of sorts. I got in trouble a lot, Saturday School and 8 suspensions. So ya I was a bit of a rebel.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@SlippingAway can you tell me more? Because my life is definitely slipping away. And I noticed your Nine Inch Nails reference.🤙🏼😊
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
@Ferise1 It's a long story, too much to post here really. I am about to lose everything and have to start over again is the short answer.

My only social interaction was being a varsity swimmer
Matt85 · 36-40, M

i played piano though and this impressed some people
I was usually in trouble. Spent a LOT of time in the principal's office and was suspended several times.
Captainjackass · 31-35, M
Hated. I once had someone tell me that when they were sick their friend told them I brought a bunch of guns to school and killed people and they believed them. So thats what people thought of me. I was so depressed back then I got kicked out for missing so much school.

I had sequential friends, never had a large group. I was considered nerdy, but my grades were not consistent with that
Ducky · 31-35, F
The quiet, awkward type. The only reason people bothered with me was because they thought I was pretty and because my older sister was popular.
