I stayed in school too long by skating by, doing just enough to get to the next level. I was supposed to be the first child in the family - ever - to go to university. Somehow I found myself enrolled in Honors Economics and Math. I hated every second of it. I finally got my courage up to quit - thus disappointing my parents - so I moved to British Columbia, drifted for a time, then joined the Royal Canadian Navy.
