Here is what's wrong with it.. This person wasn't allowed back after parents complained that this was borderline obscene.. The library apologized. Drag queen came wearing a mini skirt and sat this way throughout the story being read.. exposing his crotch to children.
This really happened and is an example of people going way too far with thier privilege
@Unefilletrescurieuse There needs to limits and this type of behavior needs to be UNIVERSALLY condemned by everyone regardless of whether or not you support the activity.. It's indefensible period.. I'd love to hear the drag community chastise this guy in the harshest possible terms because it makes sense, it's not about acceptance or inclusion, it's about shared values of common decency and respect for other's.. It should provide solid common ground for both sides.. that's how people come together.. defending the indefensible is never going to inspire inclusion.. JMO..
“Self-acceptance and self-love are what lead me to do drag. Once I learned how to embrace my femininity, I wanted to explore that and express it in a creative way. Drag is the perfect outlet for me to do so. Through DQSH, I hope to be a positive, queer role model for kids. It’s important kids know that it’s okay to be different. Diversity is part of what makes humanity beautiful, and I’m just one example or facet of what that looks like.”

Coming from the fact that most drag queens aren't serial child offenders, I'm fine with it. This is only ever not okay if you believe the phobic myth that all drag queens somehow want your child to sacrifice to the ancient Gods. I know that one person shared that one pic of that drag queen with an inappropriate outfit, even though I would say that's my limit because having a short skirt like that isn't appropriate but other than that, I'm fine with it. I also wanted to make one thing clear, the picture that was shared assumes they did it on purpose rather than having a photo taken at a moment where they may have briefly shifted in their seat. Phobic people's aim is to portray drag queens, the trans community and the LGBT communities in a certain light so that's just propaganda to me. It's something to negatively make people think a certain way about drag queens when that's hardly the reality. Sorry but I recognize propaganda, drag queens can't "force" children to become drag queens so this is all just outrage porn to me.
@AbbySvenz It's a subculture but you're missing the point entirely. This is a matter of children and our ability to promote meaningful education and protect them from harm by not facilitating this sort of exposure to things that are overtly sexual and for most children, very confusing.
@NerdyPotato I should have been more clear about the context of my comment…here in Alberta, our premiere introduced an all new curriculum which had many parents in an uproar. It included many new and controversial subjects, especially with regard to sexual health and racial/cultural issues (sexual preferences and identity being among them). The government’s overreach into our children’s education is astounding and disturbing. We the people need to push back.
@Unefilletrescurieuse Most did. Not as bad as some of the local Aboriginals. Once they got tired of giving us beatings they just got to excluding my family where ever possible. Not all did this. I don't think those few actually understood what was going on. But no biggie. Its all in the past now.
Heck, some of the older townsfolk talked with longing about the time they could shoot aboriginals like stray dogs. A time that wasn't all that long ago.
I'm not surprised, there's some people who still believe that black people should be lynched again. Like they look back on it as if they were "fond" days or something. Like WTF.
I'm pretty sure children don't look at it all the way you do. They probably just think they came from Halloween party or carnival or something like that. 😂
@Viper so they just let anyone in around children? no police checks or anything? You're cool with anyone being able to volunteer to go into schools around children and interact with them?
@Torsten They probably have to pass the state and local background checks. And looks like she/he did...
From the one I saw, it was a local Library, and the parents and their children could come or go as they pleased.
So, yeah, I don't see an issue here other than you're uncomfortable, which is your right.
But if a local Library asks for volunteers, gets said volunteers that pass background checks and have parents approve of having their children being read to, especially when the parents are there (they're not just leaving their kids there), then there is no issue here.
Parents can have others read a book to their children.
I personally hate LGBTQ getting pushed into society with privilege too far. Kids would never understand why adults behaving that way. We as adults should behave maturity in front of them and not using sexual orientation as reason to behave that way.
This is really a philosopical question. Trans people are a part of society. Some educators want to stop fear and bigotry early by letting the school kids meet a diverse group of people. This is not my personal opinion but I understand the logic. I do not equate trans with racial identity because I think that our fights are different but many people see trans folks and minority groups as the same. So in other words, what's wrong with allowing any adult to read to kids? Why does it matter that the person in trans? Again I am playing devil's advocate here.
@wildbill83 Obviously society at large or at least enough of society(media, political leaders, schools admins or whoever is making decisions) have decided that Drag Queens and or Trans people are a protected non dangerous group of people. They have been provided protected status by the government so this is not considered under the law to be similar to criminals. I'm not a Trans or Drag Queen advocate. I am pointing out how this can't be easily addressed because there are two distinct ideologies at play and each side has their own point of view.
@HoraceGreenley I Misread that your comment as: "Our professional educators should be totally shot in the head and be f***ed." (Not that I endorse or condone necrophilia, but I'm just saying -- That's how I read it)
Blame liberals. They are amoral and are destroying the future generations. The entire LGBTQ crowd is sick in the head and they want their sexuality thrown all over schools. It's disgusting
@Stargazer89 come on man, enough with the political left vs right bullshit. I blame the schools for allowing this shit and I blame the parents for accepting it.
@Chickie not surprising. I have heard of several cases similar to this. Truly horrendous stuff and something surely needs to be changed to protect children more
@Chickie I dont even want to try and imagine it. Its bad enough seeing and hearing what they are already doing let alone what they are getting away with. It sickens me that my child could be indoctrinated with this type of thing. Luckily I feel I have raised him where he feels confident enough to not just sit down and be involved in something like this and if teachers tried forcing him in on it, the school would have hell to pay and knowing many other parents there, none that I know would stand for this either.
It makes me angry that many parents accept this type of thing for their children
