Why are christians so afraid of Pagans?

Most Christians aren't afraid of Pagans and don't hate them...but there are some who call themselves Christians and have a disdain for those who identify as non-Christian.
They try to spread fear and hatred toward those who don't identify as Christian. Apparently to them, "Love thy neighbor" only applies to Christian neighbors.

Which though?
Don't get me wrong, I have A LOT of criticism of Christianity and self professed Christians.
But they're usually the strange snake dancing Evangelical kids.
The Orthodox bros are okay.

They hope it will get them into Heaven via doing "God's work"?
