Would you rent a house..

That you’d have to share 2-3 times a year for a while when the landlord comes back to the country? There would be 2 bedrooms off limits that you’d have to pay heating/ac/electric for and they’d have access to the entire house, not even a private entrance.

A realtor called me after I questioned if it was a private entrance and he said it wasn’t. So I told him I was not interested, but thank you. He called me back, asking me if I was still interested 🤔

I guess 2 verbal no thank you’s weren't enough, the realtor just texted after calling me again 🙄

@MellyMel22 A pushy realtor? No way.
MellyMel22 · F
@Thatsright Not pushy. Rude. He was verbally told I wasn’t interested in sharing the home w/a stranger and he not only called again asking me, but texted me 2xs as well. No means no.

- How long does the landlord come back for each time ?
A few days maybe, a few weeks?
- Do i get paid for maintaining his house like a house keeper?
- Is my room off limits to him?
How much is it ?

There's just too many variables.

I could potentially do it for the right price and if the landlord was only there for a short time, otherwise you're paying to live in someones house under private duress.

Here, owners get 'house sitters' , who get to live there for free untill the owner comes back and then they need to find somewhere else to live for that period.

The offer seems a tad rude and highly "weird".
MellyMel22 · F
@OogieBoogie I agree 100%!
Punxi · F
Questionable.

With kids? Hard no.

Myself...good location....I'd want an air tight lease. At the end of the day...any of'em...I'm not in his property, he's trapped in mine.

🤨
MellyMel22 · F
@Punxi My thought as well!
TurtlePink · 51-55, M
Too many red flags and the whole situation sounds shady and unusual. I’ve never heard of sharing a house with a landlord and then making you pay utilities but giving you no access to any bedrooms but renting the place from him? There’s a reason why a realtor isn’t taking no for answer, because other renters probably said no to it too because something seems up about the whole situation
dareme · 36-40, MVIP
No, I wouldn't.
I would start overthinking and feeling like an unwelcome guest (even if I pay), so I'd probably lock myself in my room whilst the landlord is there.
MellyMel22 · F
@dareme Totally understandable!!
That would be a difficult sell for me, too. One possible consideration might be if it were a house on Russian Hill or one of the “Painted Ladies”, and there was a substantial break on the rent for that inconvenience.
MellyMel22 · F
@bijouxbroussard It’s a great area, but I couldn’t do it even if it was half what they were asking!
PerfectionOfTheHeart · 46-50, F
It’s a no for me too. It would be entirely too hard to be comfortable in what should be a safe place to be.
MellyMel22 · F
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
I agree with you.
😳
JustNik · 51-55, F
How is that not painfully awkward and not a little creepy?? It would have to be down to that or a cardboard box in January before I’d consider it. 😖
MellyMel22 · F
@JustNik You’re right, it is creepy and awkward!!
Yeah, what he said ⬆
Hard No on that one.
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 so reported her to human rights too. For that and something else.

It’s a on my doorknob, I put my key in it. It’s not a realtor’s one, I got it on Amazon. She tried to pry it open with her friend of the family who did work for her at her places. They obviously use something sharp, probably a pocket knife and she was banging on it screaming.

Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. Especially when that’s the only place I lived my entire adult life. But you don’t get to live somewhere for 26 years for being a bad tenant.

I know, it’s unreal. Some say 4xs rent with rent being $3500 plus.

Thank you very much! 🤍
@MellyMel22

She sounds like she's got a criminal past, or just plain deranged. Holy heck.
I'd not want to arrive home to catch that. Like you, I'd probably do some time.

Definitely a rights abuse case if there ever was one. I know they've really strengthened tenant protection laws in some states. Hopefully that will be to your advantage.

As a stable, trustworthy tenant of 26 years, your record speaks for itself. Strong evidence when the matter is addressed by Human Rights, a tenancy council, or goes to court.

4xs $3500-4000 😳?? 💰💰. That's nuts. Heaven forbid if someone's a pensioner.

You're most welcome. If anyone deserves a break and some peace & happiness, it's you. 😔
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 I can be very nice, until people pull things like that. I’m sure you’re about the same that way.

From what I heard from a paralegal friend who works for her husband, a civil rights lawyer, my county is easier on the landlords. She also broke the law another way that I don’t wanna say publicly, but it was against me.

It’s ridiculous!

Thank you!

That's a glorified roommate. As such the price of the rent should reflect that. You're either renting the room or renting the home. Things should be adjusted accordingly.
MellyMel22 · F
@froggtongue Agreed!!
Adogslife · 61-69, M
No. I’d pay more to have a place that was 100% mine.
MellyMel22 · F
@Adogslife I agree. I would if I could!
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@MellyMel22 just be safe.
MellyMel22 · F
@Adogslife Thank you 🤍
I’d consider for an extremely discounted rate.
MellyMel22 · F
@Notmesam I’m sure many would too. I’m too private and too meticulous to share personal areas.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
You know if a realtor is repeatedly calling to see if you're interested that's because everyone else gets the ick too.
MellyMel22 · F
@CountScrofula That’s what I figured. Who wants to share their personal space w/the owner/s?
BillyMack · 46-50, M
I personally wouldn’t.
MellyMel22 · F
@BillyMack I couldn’t be comfortable with it. I’m sure some might though.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Nope he's using his property as income and a free ride at your expense. Just an untrust worthy lease shark.
MellyMel22 · F
@Gibbon Yeah, it just doesn’t feel right.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@MellyMel22 Not in the least.
Major 🚩
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
A solid no from me.
MellyMel22 · F
@SpectralMourning Understandable!
Northwest · M
Too complicated.
MellyMel22 · F
@Northwest For sure!
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
I would stay as far away from that as possible
MellyMel22 · F
@chuck7882 I definitely am!
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
MellyMel22 · F
@BrandNewMan Agreed 😂
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
No is still no!!
MellyMel22 · F
@Quimliqer That’s right!
not unless they were gonna let me rent it for 250 a month. LOLOLOL
MellyMel22 · F
@MethDozer Yeah! But the area is very expensive.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@MellyMel22

Is it in the city?
MellyMel22 · F
@Thrust No, about an hour from it. That’s nothing for a 3 bedroom there. I looked at an apartment a few days ago that was $3500.
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
Realtor must be getting a great commission to push that hard.
MellyMel22 · F
@ineedadrink Yeah, probably 🤣
YoMomma ·
I wouldn't rent a house.. but our ex landlady did to some crooks from church and they burned the house down after completely trashing the property to hell and not paying rent for a year and they are still there in an RV.. the nerve
MellyMel22 · F
@YoMomma Holy hell 😳
YoMomma ·
@MellyMel22 yeah should be criminal charges for that imo 😤
MellyMel22 · F
@YoMomma Didn’t they do a fire investigation?! To find out what caused it?
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
If I have no other choice to carry on with my job.. I will.
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Probsbly not
Unless I was in a serious pinch, no.
Selah ·
If the rent was $4 and in a great location, sure. Otherwise hell no.
MellyMel22 · F
@Selah It’s in a really good area and it’s a beautiful house. I just couldn’t do it.
Jimbo7 · M
No let him use a hotel. He wants his cake and eat it, no way.
MellyMel22 · F
@Jimbo7 Agreed!
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Not unless he was smokin hot
MellyMel22 · F
@Jenny1234 Oh I knew you were kidding! 🤣

They won’t do it lol.. I’m not familiar how all heating types work, but I shouldn’t have to pay for their rooms to be heated or air-conditioned and who knows if it’s a set up where I have to heat/cool those rooms too when they aren’t even there.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@MellyMel22 good point
Thrust · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234

Make sure he's been a guy since birth!
MethDozer · M
I might possibly consider it if the rent was free any month the landlord showed up. Even if for a couple days.
MellyMel22 · F
@MethDozer That sounds fair at least, I couldn’t feel safe with kids there though.
MethDozer · M
@MellyMel22 I wouldn't either.

Like another poster has stated. This arangment is an attempt to get payed by their housesitter. It's a hustle
Musicman · 61-69, M
Personally I would like to never rent a house unless I am the Landlord.
MellyMel22 · F
@Musicman Thank you, I really appreciate that.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@MellyMel22 God is awesome! He will take very good care of you. 😊❤❤❤
