Would you rent a house..

That you’d have to share 2-3 times a year for a while when the landlord comes back to the country? There would be 2 bedrooms off limits that you’d have to pay heating/ac/electric for and they’d have access to the entire house, not even a private entrance.

A realtor called me after I questioned if it was a private entrance and he said it wasn’t. So I told him I was not interested, but thank you. He called me back, asking me if I was still interested 🤔

Yeah, what he said ⬆
Hard No on that one.

@SethGreene531 I need a place, but I’m not trying to share it with anyone other than my kids!
@MellyMel22 Exactly.

A risky proposition if you were alone, but especially with kids in the house.
Privacy, security will be an issue.
Not to mention flexible boundaries between their living spaces and yours.

I rented a nice basement apt. years back like this. Sometimes she'd have dates come back afterwards.
Nothing ever went on upstairs, but the thin curtains as doorways creeped me out a bit.

Keep looking; there's bound to be others. Fingers crossed you find something that's right for you.

@SethGreene531 Yes!

There weren’t doors?
@MellyMel22 Nope. A thin drawback curtain closing basement entry to the recroom, turned livingroom/bedroom.
Then one separating my kitchen from a common storage area...ugh 🙄
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 Oh wow, I bet it wasn’t even a legal apartment. !
@MellyMel22 I'm thinking that. More just a recroom with a woodstove and carpet + rough kitchenette/ half bath.

I had to go down 4 steps to the entry door. Sometimes the light was off at night. It was a bad area, so you never new what lay in the dark of that pit.

@SethGreene531 Wow. That definitely was not a good situation! At least now you’re living in your own great place!
@MellyMel22 Yeah, it was my first place after highschool. A big deal back then.
But a far cry from home ownership now, and the joys of landscaping and putting your stamp on it. I love it.
MellyMel22 · F
@SethGreene531 I’m sure it’s a great feeling and you deserve it!
@MellyMel22
Thank you, I'm a proud new owner☺

So you guys have decided it's time for a change of place, also?
Will you downsize or look for the same space?

Hopefully winter cooperates during the move.

@SethGreene531 I’m looking for a bigger place. The new landlords are being unprofessional and after I refused to sign an unfair lease(including my security disappearing), one had a fit and tried to illegally break in. Scared the hell outta my kids. I’m really thankful that I wasn’t there because if I was, I would’ve went after her and ended up in jail. I don’t have patience for that BS and disrespect.
@MellyMel22 That's reprehensible. Yeah, my reaction would have been the same.
Some really abuse tenant rights and cross lines. Incl break & enter, snooping, or surprise inspections. Witholding deposits is another biggie. Renting is such a ripoff nowaday.

Friends of mine went through similar. He's hanging on to his house until the adult kids move out. It takes all 4 working just to make rent. Crazy economy.

Just awful. I really hope you guys get out of there. The poor kids, my gosh!
The last thing you need on your plate.

Sometimes the ground floor of a house or its finished basement can be reasonably leased. Even 3rd floor conversions.
With pvte entrances, that would be ideal.

Also look at preowned manufactured or factory built homes in your area. Often they can be bought outright for a year's worth of rent, or a low mortgage.

@SethGreene531 Well she’s pissed that I called the police 🤣 I did that on purpose so that if we end up in court, they know what she did. She even tried to break up in my lock box that I have for my kids.

It is really insane how bad prices are for rent by me and I’m sure many other places. My area recently skyrocketed and they’re all asking for 3 to 4 times the rent amount to be made and a high credit score. If these people made that kind of money and had that kind of credit they would be able to buy their own house. My problem is right now that I lost a reference because of this b*itch. They are the third owners, I’ve been there over 26 years. I moved there when I was 18.

I’ve looked at everything, but I can’t buy right now.
@MellyMel22 Smart. Have a well documented paper trail to cover you.
Pissed she's run into a savy tenant 😂 She's not used to that I would figure.

Into the lock box?..as in, for valuables or cash? Whoa this woman's outta control.

Exactly. What are landlords thinking? Anyone with that income would buy a house and build equity.

That's the thing, one bad landlord and your reputation is shredded, as is your credit score.
Shame the unit changed hands so much. Makes for an unpredictable future.
My friend is going through it leasing shop space for her busisess. Great landlords/property owners for years, then comes a crazy nut and reschemes the whole agreement.

Similar to rent schemes in the city.
A guy in NYC was describing the leasing practice there. You've gotta make 6 or 7 times the monthly rent/fees to apply for a unit you may be outbidded on. What career even pays that??

I'm sorry to hear that. A lot of folks are in the same boat now. Seems the economy is scaled for the rich, pushing us honest middle to upper working classes out.

Praying and sending good thoughts your way that the issue is soon resolved.

@SethGreene531 so reported her to human rights too. For that and something else.

It’s a on my doorknob, I put my key in it. It’s not a realtor’s one, I got it on Amazon. She tried to pry it open with her friend of the family who did work for her at her places. They obviously use something sharp, probably a pocket knife and she was banging on it screaming.

Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. Especially when that’s the only place I lived my entire adult life. But you don’t get to live somewhere for 26 years for being a bad tenant.

I know, it’s unreal. Some say 4xs rent with rent being $3500 plus.

Thank you very much! 🤍
@MellyMel22

She sounds like she's got a criminal past, or just plain deranged. Holy heck.
I'd not want to arrive home to catch that. Like you, I'd probably do some time.

Definitely a rights abuse case if there ever was one. I know they've really strengthened tenant protection laws in some states. Hopefully that will be to your advantage.

As a stable, trustworthy tenant of 26 years, your record speaks for itself. Strong evidence when the matter is addressed by Human Rights, a tenancy council, or goes to court.

4xs $3500-4000 😳?? 💰💰. That's nuts. Heaven forbid if someone's a pensioner.

You're most welcome. If anyone deserves a break and some peace & happiness, it's you. 😔

@SethGreene531 I can be very nice, until people pull things like that. I’m sure you’re about the same that way.

From what I heard from a paralegal friend who works for her husband, a civil rights lawyer, my county is easier on the landlords. She also broke the law another way that I don’t wanna say publicly, but it was against me.

It’s ridiculous!

Thank you!
