Do you prefer real maple syrup or the imitation?

You would think it's a no brainer. :/ daughter doesn't like my real maple syrup. More. For. Me
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I can only eat the real. The imitation has ingredients that i am allergic to. Same thing with soda pop, can't have that either. Unless it is organic and don't have them few chemicals that can kill me in them. It the few artificial ingredients that will put my kidneys into failure

These are the worse for me

Acesulfame Potassium
Aspartame
Butylated Hydroxyanisole
Saccharin
Sorbitol
Samek · 36-40, M
@HumanEarth I can relate to this. :(
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@HumanEarth Yep, I think it's called high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). It replaced cane/beet sugar starting in the 40s and 50s, in practically everything where sugar was once used.

HumanEarth · 56-60, F
@Heartlander That's another one
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
I am Canadian ..

So my BMI is heavily centered around the consumption of 100% pure maple syrup for survival and also so I can hold onto my Canadian content , citizenship, passport and birth certificate ..

The tree sap identification and stack of pancakes test is not for the faint of heart for those seeking claim to the Canadian flag 🍁
Samek · 36-40, M
@BobbyMoeven Won't lie, someday I think I'd love to be a Canadian. Just not sure if I'm a viable candidate for dual citizenship.
Samek · 36-40, M
I feel like I should get special privileges because I grew up in Sault Sainte Marie which is half in Ontario xD
Northwest · M
Imitation? I live within a short driving distance from Canada.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
I just bought real maple syrup recently. God, it is the best right??? I typically have Light pancake syrup b/c it is just cheaper, most of the time. But maybe twice a year or so I buy the real stuff and it is like Heaven Lol.
@Coralmist i am glad my daughter don't like it because i can make it last makes my mouth so happy lol
Samek · 36-40, M
As a proud Northern Michigander (aka Yooper) its real maple syrup ALL THE WAY! Also real maple syrup candies are the BEST!
@Samek i love maple candy so so soooooo much
Samek · 36-40, M
@Bexsy This is what I appreciates about you, Bex.
I'm Canadian. I put real maple syrup on everything. 😁
@Ambroseguy80
Let's leave it at that. 😉🥸
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
@CookieCrumbs
Maple Mammaries 😋😋
@CookieCrumbs can't think of many things it's not good on
reubles · 41-45, M
As a Canadian, from Quebec, I must admit there's nothing like the real deal from my home province. I find table syrup an affront to god
come2gether · 46-50, M
Real maple syrup from Maine. Vermont can shove off.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@come2gether I have some New Hampshire maple syrup, it’s pretty good
come2gether · 46-50, M
@cherokeepatti it can be thin from nh, but it depends on the maker
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@come2gether doesn’t seem thin…it’s good.
Selah ·
Always hated imitation and never had maple. I like to make fruit syrups for my pancakes
@Selah those are really good
Raspberry one my favorites
Ontheroad · M
Real, and from the U.S., not those northern interlopers🤣
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
Real all the way. I'm in maple country so have just a little bias. 😁
The real stuff, in a can, from Quebec. Only good thing from Quebec
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I cannot recall if I ever tried real.

I limit syrup nowadays due to my diabetes. I even sometimes sprinkle Splenda on my pancakes. Of course pancakes are full of carbs so it is like eating chocolate cake without frosting and claiming it is low carb.
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
@JoyfulSilence I have heard that the real stuff is surprisingly low on the hypoglycemic scale. Much healthier than any chemical concoction sweetner.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@ineedadrink

Splenda uses sucralose which is not metabolized. It looks like sugar except a few atoms are replaced with chlorine.

I hope the chlorine does not kill me. Yet perhaps it disinfects? 🤪
Sapio · 51-55, M
I need the real stuff.
@Sapio Mmm me too
Lilymoon · F
Pffft no comparison to real 🤭

caccoon · 36-40
As a Canadian, you know my answer
@caccoon pure Canadian maple syrup 🍁
caccoon · 36-40
@ineedadrink is it really better?
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
@caccoon Probably the same but I'm going to claim it is because I'm in nowheresville, surrounded by syrup producers. 😁
JustDJ76 · 46-50, M
Real. But who can afford it. 😳
Samek · 36-40, M
@JustDJ76 Well what region you live in? Perhaps I can source something local for you depending.
JustDJ76 · 46-50, M
@Samek Southeast US
Samek · 36-40, M
@JustDJ76 Eh probably easier to source you orange juice. xD
Heartlander · 80-89, M
:) real maple. But good syrup from cane would be my preference. Some times the maple in maple syrup is too strong.

Oh, and my grandpa was a cane farmer :)
IM5688 · 61-69, M
To be honest, I don't recall ever having had real maple syrup. I'd like to try it sometime.
Samek · 36-40, M
@IM5688 It's definitely a game changer. Worth having shipped to you at least once.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@Samek Will give it a try.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I don’t like real maple syrup much. I like the garbage buttermilk syrup
@Jenny1234 hey, you like what you like. I like things that people wonder about my sanity sometimes lol
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I first tasted real maple syrup about 25 years ago. Haven’t purchased anything else since then.
meggie · F
I only would use it on pancakes, but as I have no maple syrup, I'm happy with honey on my pancakes.
Samek · 36-40, M
Do you make your own maple syrup? I don't but my parents did a lot of it when I was a youth.
@Samek No, but it's affordable at the place i get it from and delicious
Real.
Never imitation.
My grandson thinks it’s gross. Poor kid. Has no taste.
@nonsensiclesnail my daughter same way. Doesn't know whats good
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F
Real, once you go real theres no going back really.
@mooncrest02 it's music to your taste buds
carpediem · 61-69, M
You mean sugar or no sugar.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
Definitely real
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Real. I’m not 10. 😂
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
While real maple syrup is ultimately better, I do see her point. The fake stuff plays the part fairly well. I wouldn't send the pancakes back if there was no real syrup available 😬😬

OverTheHill · 56-60, M
I prefer real maple syrup.

However being a type 2 Diabetic, I almost exclusively use the Sugar Free Syrup.

Sometimes I sneak some real stuff, just a tiny bit. It is great.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
I actually prefer the aunt Jemima 😅 but have only tasted a handful of real maple syrups so maybe I just haven't tried the right one?
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
When I was a kid I liked the imitation better too. Now I can't even stand to smell it lol
Samek · 36-40, M
@SwampFlower Cane sugar is one helluva drug
Iwillwait · M
In probably more inclined to know the imitation maple syrup over the Actual/Real maple syrup.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I go for the real thing, but I have met people from your daughter's tribe.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
The real stuff -- but who can afford it?
swirlie · 31-35, F
@ChipmunkErnie
Only Canadians can afford the real thing because as a Nation, we are very affluent. Every Canadian I know is rich and debt free and owns at least one car that is no more than 3 years old. Why would Canadians choose imitation maple syrup when the real stuff is growing in our backyards and drains from our trees by the metric gallon?!
Guardian · 56-60, M
Polar Bears eat REAL maple syrup ONLY!
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Real! Not even a comparison.
Real always real 🙌. Let your syrup flow 😏😋
Ive never had real maple syrup.

All we have here is the imitation stuff🤷‍♀️
@OogieBoogie Oogie! That's. 😩 i want to send you a gallon now. You been denied real maple syrup
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@Bexsy OMG right? I’ll pitch in.
@Bexsy i tasted the fake stuff once ....and i think i could guess at the flavour they were aiming for....but even i knew it must've been way off by the way people speak about real maple syrup.

Dont worry....its on my imaginary bucket list

Id love to do Canada. Trek around, stay in small dinky places and country pubs. Binge their food🤗
Azlotto · M
Real. I don't buy imitation anything.
tenente · 100+, M
🤔 real maple syrup is my preference NOW I WANT PANCAKES DAMN IT 😭
swirlie · 31-35, F
I was born with a sterling silver maple tree sap spigot in my mouth which my mother used as a substitute soother on me until I was 5, so I'd probably hurl myself off the highest stack of pancakes in the land if anyone tried to serve imitation maple syrup to me without my prior knowledge.

🥞🍁
Musicman · 61-69, M
I was brought up on the fake stuff so that's what I like now.
