Would you let a relative or friend do your taxes? Why or why not?

No, I do not mind paying my fair share of taxes. I hate the way the government spends it worries me

No. But I have done other people's taxes before. And no I'm not in the profession. 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Both times I did theirs, they didn't write or speak very well themselves.

No, my youngest sister offered several times. She has an accounting degree. Told her my taxes were simple enough that I could do them by myself. I would have paid a stranger before letting her do them if they weren’t simple. She would blab out how much other people were making as if it was her right to do so. She also offered to help me set up a budget. I didn’t want her in my business at all and I am very good at paying my bills on time and being frugal with my money when necessary. She’s also a narcissist so there’s that.

Bad idea. Once an accountant friend was supposed to help me with taxes, but with a lot of other people's taxes to do, mine fell by the sideway. 🫤

Nope, except for when I was in business for myself, I've always done them myself. When I had a business, I had an ex IRS agent do them for me.

Nope. First of all, there is the basic rule about not doing business with relatives or friends. Only going to lead to hurt feelings (rightly or wrongly) at some point. Secondly, my finances are too complicated and the tax codes are too much of an ever-changing set of rules for anyone but a professional doing it full-time.

Nope. We hired someone in my mid 20s on my dad's recommendation only to watch the guy essentially use the same software I could have used for free. He charged us an unreasonable amount for his 'service', IMO should have been criminal.
I've done it myself ever since.
