All of them? No. But there are a hell a lot of things they certainly can fix, and even more they can greatly improve even if they can't completely solve.
@revenant Not really? I'm just pointing out that those who are allegedly calling out people for "expecting the government to fix their own issues" are generally those who vote far-right authoritarians who promised them, well, that once elected they would get their issues fixed lol
@whowasthatmaskedman you are correct about foreign loans, but the majority of the deficit is structural and a great deal is internal, not to foreign countries. Interestingly, those who call for lowering the debt, are the same ones who vote to give tax relief to the rich and to corporations. If everyone paid their "fair share," don't ask me how to arrive at that, the deficit would disappear. The last 2 democratic administrations managed to handle that well, then the republicans came to power and the debt rose considerably, mostly because of tax credits/cuts/
don't swear by Dr. Google, but it is at least, a good starting point: "As of November 2022, federal debt held by the public was $31 trillion. Debt held by the public was estimated at 96.19% of GDP, and approximately 33% of this public debt was owned by foreigners. The United States has the largest external debt in the world." "What is the main contributor to U.S. debt? From FY 2019 to FY 2021, spending increased by about 50%, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tax cuts, stimulus programs, increased government spending, and decreased tax revenue caused by widespread unemployment generally account for sharp rises in the national debt."
@samueltyler2 Sorry. I am calling this off. We are clearly talking at cross purposes. What I am speaking about has nothing to do with taxes, or budget allocations. It is about America as a culture buying stuff from everyone else and effectively paying in IOUs. Now what will happen is that sooner or later someone will stop shipping you stuff until you agree to pay in something other than $US. Like Gold, or Euros , or Yuan. And them make you buy them. And watch the bum fall out of the value of the $ and the cost of imports rise. I'm done here.😷
@whowasthatmaskedman it is all related. If you are only speaking about a trade balance, that is another story. But the total deficit is related to expenses and income. The government's income is mostly taxes, so the balance of the scale changes when either side changes, either purchasing more or less, or taxing more or less. It is simple math as far as that is concerned.
Nope. But I think I'm smelling an excluded middle fallacy. The government can't fix everything, of course. But it would be a YUGE error to conclude that therefore the government should attempt to fix nothing.
There are plenty of problems the government should address, such as clean air and water, workplace safety, food and drug safety; not to mention liberty and justice for all!
A lot are the cause of all the problems that happen in the world. Politics is not all it seems to be at first and schools are set up to make them follow a certain narrative and agenda by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Sure I have my own problems but what they have been doing and still are is just making things worse..especially in 2020, 2021 and 2022 where bad more the first dates.
'All your ills'? I've never met anyone personally who believes that. And I've worked with the poor all my life in many countries. But governments do have a role in society and I expect them to do their job. I'm not a person who only cares about myself. I take responsibility for my own life, but I also care what kind of society we live in. So one example: Australia has a housing crisis because of poor government policy for the last 20 years. Or another: more 'welfare' in the form of tax breaks, etc has gone to the wealthy than to the battlers trying to survive. 32% of corporations didn't pay any tax, while the mum and dad trying to raise families effectively supported these corporations to make profits for wealthy shareholders - many of whom also paid little or no tax. To me, that's a failure of government to be 'of the people and for the people.'
@Roundandroundwego I just dont see 1948 in one nation as ancient. I see your 15th amendement and raise you Idi Amin, Sadam Hussein, Robert Mugabe, and Muamma Gaddafi.😷
@whowasthatmaskedman wow. No, that's more modern. The UN charter contains that right. Nobody knows about it any more,-. Online. Nobody hopes for civil society or peace. Post Truth is what you do. Instead. Deal over, social animal dead. No sapiens. You win.
@revenant I started working out a local but decent gym because of some girl. But now I try to workout regularly. The gym coaches can help me to get rid of my alcohol habits. It's just that I some whey protein and creatine from him.
Go ask the current Premier of the Union of Soviet Socialistic Republics for your answer. That person can educate you on how Big Government can solve all of your problems.
Saw you mention the concerns over AI. WEF adviser and Klaus Schwab's right hand "man," Yuval Harari, is a huge proponent of AI, and not a fan of humanity. Scary because these people running the WEF have the eyes and ears of many world leaders. I don't know how this story ends, but can almost guarantee it will be bloody.
@revenant Those who welcome it will be eliminated first. We are a planet of 8 billion people and these lunatics have an earthy threshold of 500 million. You can't simply wish away 7.5 billion human beings.
@littlepuppywantanewlife Actually we face a crisis of antibiotic resistance and the private pharmaceutical industry is completely failing to invest in producing it. They made billions by exploiting antibiotic discovery in government labs. So why not invest? Because they are too accountable to producing more immediate profits for shareholders and executive bonuses. The idea that private enterprise is always better is a laughable myth. This is one of a myriad of examples in other sectors as well. I could also raise many other failures of pharmaceutical industry and health insurance industries to put interests of public to the forefront - and I'm not anti-pharmaceutical companies. Just pointing out the nuance and complexity in reality.
