'All your ills'? I've never met anyone personally who believes that. And I've worked with the poor all my life in many countries.
But governments do have a role in society and I expect them to do their job. I'm not a person who only cares about myself. I take responsibility for my own life, but I also care what kind of society we live in. So one example: Australia has a housing crisis because of poor government policy for the last 20 years. Or another: more 'welfare' in the form of tax breaks, etc has gone to the wealthy than to the battlers trying to survive. 32% of corporations didn't pay any tax, while the mum and dad trying to raise families effectively supported these corporations to make profits for wealthy shareholders - many of whom also paid little or no tax. To me, that's a failure of government to be 'of the people and for the people.'
