Why do we need political parties?
Because most politicians fear a undivided populace.

Some history about republics would be very appropriate to learn about this. Even the founding fathers of the USA constitution, where at odds with each other.

A few didn't even want slavery (Hamilton and Franklin). Not many though. While others were more afraid of monarchies (Franklin for certain). Yet again not many.

While the majority were afraid of the people, after the French revolution. Notice that happened shortly afterwards 1789-1794.

Yet at the same time Adam Smith's book "The wealth of nations" 1776 about capitalism was a major influence.

All of that contributed to political parties.

Realistically, nothing would get done without political parties. I also prefer direct democracy, but realistically speaking, we can't have a referendum for every single issue. We need representative democracy.

But I do agree politicians use the two party system to do culture wars as a way of distracting from the issues. We should have rank-choice voting.

@BohoBabe I was so angry with the people of Oregon for voting against implementing that.

@LordShadowfire I have a feeling the voters, being stupid, didn't understand what they were voting against.

Because most politicians fear a undivided populace.

So then we'll all go with your plan of how things should run?

Governing without polical parties would be very inefficent
Same as religion.. organised masses
You don't in the USA. Politics would only slow your brutality and moderate your evil.

We dont. Statism is a tool of control......maybe not since its genesis but democracy in its current form is an invisible box that constrains us while having the illusion of freedom.

I certainly hope you don't think it would be smarter to have only one party. They've tried that model before.

@LordShadowfire They're already both fighting over that. I support getting over the tendency for tribalism, and electing a govt. of individuals, working for the people rather than the agendas of divisive and nonessential parties.

@WillieT While I agree that eventually, that needs to be the case, right now we've got a problem of too few political parties, not too many. The two big ones might appear to be fighting on the surface, but really they're pulling a good cop, bad cop routine on us.

@LordShadowfire They fight about the culture war so that billionaires can keep building their dragon hoards.
