Why do we need political parties?
Because most politicians fear a undivided populace.

Realistically, nothing would get done without political parties. I also prefer direct democracy, but realistically speaking, we can't have a referendum for every single issue. We need representative democracy.
But I do agree politicians use the two party system to do culture wars as a way of distracting from the issues. We should have rank-choice voting.
