Besides buying a new car, is there anything we can do about these gas prices?

It seems like every week I pay $10 more for gas. When is the price going to stop rising?
Fairydust · F
It won’t stop rising. They are doing this on purpose.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Fairydust I know.
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@Fairydust Putin started a war is on him...everything before that thou...
Fairydust · F
@lispoiledbrat please don’t believe putin is to blame for everything, we have been raised to believe Russia is the bad ones, why? Don’t believe everything they say.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Take the bus, carpool, organize a work-from-home effort at least part time, cut down on travel and unnecessary trips, let grass grow a little longer...

Gas prices are an indication of the "healthy free market." It's supply and demand.
ron122 · 41-45, M
@Graylight No I don't like Fords.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Graylight So in conclusion, the rising gas prices are due to decreased oil production in the USA.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SinlessOnslaught Um, no. Not solely.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Unfortunately there’s not really anything we can do. Buy electric, sure but now you have a new high car payment and your electricity bill is going to go up charging your car all the time. Maybe an electric bike is the way to go? Just save your vehicle for winter or when you have to grocery shop or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Let’s face it they have us by the short and curly’s. 😠
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@SW-User And stopping oil production in our country is making it much, much worse.
robb65 · 56-60, M
@SinlessOnslaught I've bought cars and trucks as low as $1200-$1400 and kept them on the road for a decade. The cost of fuel was a whole lot less than a car or truck payment would have been. I can't see how taking on a several hundred dollar a month payment just to save $200-$300 in fuel makes sense, and that's before factoring in repairs and insurance and assuming I would only need to replace one vehicle. At some point I would be working just to pay for a vehicle I really didn't want to begin with.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@robb65 Exactly.
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
Yes,vote Joe out. We were energy independent for a short bit. 1.68 gal.
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@Applepiedom because oil is sold globally it goes where demand goes. We need global increase in production of oil to kill this faster.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@lispoiledbrat So in conclusion, the rising gas prices are due to decreased oil production in the USA.
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@SinlessOnslaught some yes. At least in the us globally it's shortages.

For the individual 'we,' there's little we can do. As others have pointed out, we can drive less, but yeah that only goes so far in a country that's connected almost exclusively by big-ass roads and spread out like crazy. For the collective 'we,' there's a ton we could do. For starters, we could repeal the Jones Act to make transporting oil within the US a little cheaper, that'd take the edge off a bit. We could re-enter the JCPOA and normalize relations with Venezuela so we can buy their oil.

We could re-design our cities so that cars take a proverbial backseat to oil-free transport options like bikes, electric trams and electric subways. We could get rid of R1 zoning so that people's workplaces could be more accessible from their homes without the help of the automobile. Further, we could connect the cities to one another with high-speed rail and erect charging ports up and down every highway in the country to kick-start the proliferation of electric cars. But of course, we won't do that because the corporations that run this hellhole country like things the way they are and are scared of change.

edit: if you have a yard, consider planting ground cover instead of grass. that'll save you some gas.
Mrjingleswilly · 51-55, M
You can run a diesel on vegetable oil. In the uk you can manufacture 2,500 litres before it becomes taxable. I tried to get a collective together to collect used vegetable oil for processing, but nobody could be buggered with the hassle. Which is typical of the average UK male. All moan and no action.
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Mrjingleswilly I kinda suspected that could be the case with newer engines. Like I said, if I was going to buy a diesel truck my preference would be something old enough not to have that problem..
Mrjingleswilly · 51-55, M
@robb65 at the time I had a 1997 Land Rover. You could chuck any old crap in there and it would run 😂
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Mrjingleswilly Years ago I worked for a man for a short period of time who had a diesel Cadillac. He also had a big tank of off road fuel (which doesn't have a road tax) for his tractors. I saw him one morning out there topping up his car before going out of town. Odds of getting caught with a car were probably slim but I have heard of people with 3/4-1 ton trucks getting pulled over and checked.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
It’s not going to stop rising any time soon. Sad thing it’s a really simple fix.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@lispoiledbrat if you need to ask then you haven’t paid attention since May 2020 and I have no obligation to educate you. It’s all out there if you want to know.
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@JesseInTX whats out there is fake shit.. i thought you might have had something useful. Thanks for proving my point. Your def full maga. Everything is educate yourself even when they are 100% wrong, such stupid fucks this country has made.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
@lispoiledbrat thanks for proving my point. There’s nothing fake about what he’s done. His words and actions. Your user name is appropriate though.
ron122 · 41-45, M
It will stop when Bidens out of office. He and his idiotic climate change hoax is all he cares about.
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@ron122 naw its idiots like you that think climate change is a hoax.
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@JesseInTX only ones i ever hear talking about it are my republican friends..no dem talks about this crap. Same with trading mean tweets for biden...no dem says this crap.
@lispoiledbrat there had to be one idiot here that would defend the Biden admin.
You’re right. Everything they’ve tried to pass legitimately has FAILED..
because they suck

But it ain’t stopping him trying…
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You seem to think i like Biden...I don't hes a horrible president.
As for not passing, hard to when you need 51 in senate and 2 of your party cant stand with ya and all 50 republicans dont want to work. Hopefully something changes in 2023 with republicans having both house and senate...
SW-User
Putin is the primary reason for rising gas prices
lispoiledbrat · 26-30, F
@SinlessOnslaught exit process...the man still thinks he won. He wasnt planning no exit.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@lispoiledbrat He knew he was exiting the White House.

Buying a new car won't help. Even if it gets a lot better mileage than the current one there's still those payments, new tags, taxes, and insurance. Hanging on to something that is paid off and driving less saves more money.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@robb65 I know.
Lacemaker · 41-45, F
They don't need to put up the price.
There's method in their madness.
Buy a Tesla or a tiny electric Hyundai or Chevy spark
being · 36-40, F
@SinlessOnslaught not exactly sarcasm. If we won't buy another car, or follow any other pointed direction.. lots of us ..
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@being Are you justifying the situation?
ron122 · 41-45, M
LadyGrace · 70-79

SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@LadyGrace I found it kinda predictable.
LadyGrace · 70-79
@SinlessOnslaught It was. It's just that when I saw that one lonely word by itself it was so funny hahaha
FurryFace · 61-69, M
