Would book burning be the next logical step or a step too far for Republicans ?

DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Governor Abbott (R) in Texas is removing from schools any and all books about LGBTQ issues, citing them as "p0rnography". 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Republitards won't be happy until this country mirrors the Theocracy of the Middle East.
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
@DearAmbellina2113 nah! Just the patriarchy of the USA.
Muldoon · 56-60, M
@DearAmbellina2113 the article I read said 2 books.
Abbott targeted two books that have been removed by schools recently that center on LGBTQ characters,
citing two memoirs about LGBTQ characters which include graphic images and descriptions of sex.

@Muldoon They wont let reality stifle their indignation. They are addicted to it.

@MalteseFalconPunch We've already reached the point where the Republican Party is now beholden to extremists. These are fucking dangerous times.

It's already being suggested by some conservative school board members opposed to critical race theory and any LGBT content:

So much for "free speech" from the anti-cancel culture crowd. 🙄
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yep , that partly inspired the question.

Shouldn't be too long now before we see the first bonfire.
@RodionRomanovitch Can you believe this? SHEESH...
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Oh, they're well into book burning already. Someone just needs to strike the match.
@DunningKruger Yes, sadly.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Amusing how someone advocating the abolishment of censorship is censoring. Typical of left-wing nut-job marxists
SW-User
@RodionRomanovitch the whole of society has been terrorised and bullied. It isn't a false narrative. I've witnessed it.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@SW-User What you're describing is paranoia.
SW-User
@RodionRomanovitch nice gaslighting
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
It all started with "offensive" statues
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
conservatives like books, "infallible ink". it's you liberals that are hell bent on re-writing history (probably why your sources for everything are wikipedia and cnn)
Graylight · 51-55, F
Well, they burn all kinds of other stuff, so I don't see why they wouldn't bring back an old favorite.

@Graylight lol

(Didn't Nike's share price actually go up after its support for Kaepernick ?)
@Graylight The thing that’s hilarious is that Nike already has his money, and now he has nothing for it. And Nike sales have never been better.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I hate to break it to you but censorship is always a left wing idea. We righties want to keep all books available. Even those we disagree with.
Muldoon · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 FB likes political censorship.

[c=800000]I am sure some in both parties support banning of some books, statues, symbols, etc.
For example: From the left: Uncle Ben's Rice, Aunt Jemima syrup, "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Huckleberry Finn." etc.
From the right: CRT books, transgender propaganda, etc. [/c]
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@PatKirby 🤔

@ProfessorPlum77

Not asking this question in a rhetorical sense, but it seems there is more to what we don't see than what we do. The origin of what we now call 'wokeness' had to have begun somewhere. What do you think about its philosophical origins at the Frankfurt School in Germany before it was transferred to Columbia University in New York City?
SW-User
@ProfessorPlum77 Nobody is trying to ban books on CRT or LGBT just questioning their place in schools as propaganda tools, and pornography in particular.

It is the left that is trying to censor alternative opinions on those issues, for the whole of society
Stopmakingsense · 56-60, F
People use the privately owned internet, not books.
Hasn't there already been a scandal around big tech controlling your politics?
Does that not count?
It is already being discussed in Virginia. This is no longer hypothetical.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
Republicans, republicans, republicans...every. single. time.!!! 😂
@beckyromero So odd that the country which was the great center of culture could be brought that low.

The Depression and a VERY harsh Treaty w/Germany (ending WWI) created TRUE runaway inflation, an inability to do some of the manufacturing they had previously been able to do, an international shunning (rather than reconciliation), etc.

It set the stage for Hitler, who promised bread and the ability to be proud of being German, again...
beckyromero · 36-40, F
@SomeMichGuy

If anything, the Treaty of Versailles wasn't harsh enough!

As Marshal Foch predicted at the time, "This is not peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."
Just putting it out there.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I've stood in the places where both were done.

The Nazi analogies are becoming less and less fantastical.
@RodionRomanovitch Don't even have to go back that far. A friend of mine is from what used to be Yugoslavia and has some pretty horrible stories to tell.
Someone did send Greg Locke a book and he burnt it.
Wiseacre · F
You sound Austrian!
Remember, social conservatives are the ones who used to burn people. Burning books is nothing to them.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard Yep , there's something eerily atavistic about all this.
That’s already a precedent for conservatives…the original proponents of “cancel culture”.
SW-User
Wow, you can certainly twist reality

@RodionRomanovitch Your article isn't even citing the record but is clearly left wing biased and presents "according to another newspaper..." But let's assume it is true you really have to stop this knee jerk hysteria if two people out of a population of 350,000,000 say something a little bit stupid

Hatred and fear causes cancer. You've got your knickers in an enjoyable and kinky twist over this guy:

It might be just me, but I don't find him all that frightening, nor would I be as concerned about someone burning the school libraries two copies of a removed book as I would be by say, the burning and looting of cities 😁
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@SW-User demonocrats are gonna start burning books, since they can not afford heating oil or electricity anymore

@sunsporter1649 Lol. The country is being overrun by fascist idiots and the right wing wants to pick fights with literal puppets and have meltdowns over children's toys. Oh and encourage a clearly deranged former drug addict and religious nutjob. And of course fight for the right of a football team to keep a racial slur. Not serious people.

@sunsporter1649 And thank you for broadcasting to the world you are a walking joke.
