She didn't say that actually, she said she wants to "abolish our carceral system," which maybe sounds like abolishing prisons until you notice the use of the possessive noun our. She doesn't want to get rid of prisons entirely; just dismantle our current prison system and establish a smaller one in its place.

Don't abolish the prisons, but rework the whole god damn system. Look at various EU countries -- their prison systems are build on rehabilitation. Fixing the problems of the inmates and training them to have skills to properly survive the outside world. Helping them with mental health problems, getting them clean of drugs, etc. etc. The US system is built on punishment and slavery. No real skills are taught, no help for those who battle addictions, thus convicts are more likely to be repeat offenders.
@QuixoticSoul I don't think it's so idealistic. Some 60% of Americans want legal marijuana, and 52% want legal prostitution. Granted, that would chip relatively little away from the problem, but we could use the same playbook on other drugs and stuff. Five states have already banned private prisons, which should destroy most corporate support for mass-incarceration (though drug bans have other obvious benefits for business). I really think we have a shot on this issue.
Ok no dont abolish ALL prisons BUT it's better to rework the system. Under capitalist ruling our prison system is some of the worst in the world. We have the largest prison population per capita, we have highest rate of people going back to prison within 20 years of getting out. We abuse prisoners for work practically making them slaves. In fact, theres a prison museum in Finland built as a way to show what prisons were like back then compared to now and they look very similar to our prisons

Why don't you read her full remarks in that tweet from almost two years ago. She brings up some good points. She is suggesting that drug users, homeless people, the mentally ill, prostitutes, and people who can't afford to pay their traffic tickets and have not committed violent crimes not be put in jail. She's NOT advocating that murderers, rapists, and robbers go free.

System. She wants to abolish an unjust system while creating reasonable alternatives to prison. We incarcerate more of our own citizens than any other country in the western hemisphere.

I’ve worked in the prison system. It’s useless and needs major changes. Only a few I’ve been to actually try to correct all others just waste space and create more crime
She’s just worried about where she and her cohorts are gonna be in a few years. Maybe if they get rid of the prisons now we won’t have anywhere to put them later.

Yes people are that stupid. And playing into the hands of leftist revolutionaries. They often will release prisoners when they want to overthrown the government. Prisoners are part of the lumpenproletariat that are useful idiots in revolutions. They can help create chaos and when the new leaders are installed they can be disposed of easily too.
