AOC says we need to abolish all prisons in the United States

Can a person really be this stupid?
Don't abolish the prisons, but rework the whole god damn system. Look at various EU countries -- their prison systems are build on rehabilitation. Fixing the problems of the inmates and training them to have skills to properly survive the outside world. Helping them with mental health problems, getting them clean of drugs, etc. etc.
The US system is built on punishment and slavery. No real skills are taught, no help for those who battle addictions, thus convicts are more likely to be repeat offenders.
@QuixoticSoul Probably a senile old geezer at this point.

@SW-User Hey, you support that bullschiff, enjoy the fruits of your labors
@sunsporter1649 While you're six feet under, rolling in your grave, I will.
BlueVeins · 22-25
She didn't say that actually, she said she wants to "abolish our carceral system," which maybe sounds like abolishing prisons until you notice the use of the possessive noun our. She doesn't want to get rid of prisons entirely; just dismantle our current prison system and establish a smaller one in its place.

Think that's a stretch? She's made similar comments on Twitter in years prior and explained as follows:
Lastly, people tend to say “what do you do with all the violent people?” as a defense for incarcerating millions.

Our lawmaking process means we come to solutions together, &either way we should work to an end where our prison system is dramatically smaller than it is today.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@BlueVeins If you can't dazzle "em with your brilliance, baffle "em with your bullschiff

Oh, you mean an elected official didn't actually move that prisons should not exist?

lol who would be stupid enough to take that headline at face value?🤣
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Mistakesmakeus don't give me too much credit, looking that level up was a spinal-level reaction

What do they purpose as an alternative?

No, that isn’t what she means, she wants to abolish our current system, not the concept of keeping people locked up who need to be locked up.

It’s overly idealistic, but to be fair - our system is not working to the point of being useless, and something needs to be done.

QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@ron122 Speech is too slow, you can read the sentence you’re freaking out over in a few milliseconds.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@QuixoticSoul I don't think it's so idealistic. Some 60% of Americans want legal marijuana, and 52% want legal prostitution. Granted, that would chip relatively little away from the problem, but we could use the same playbook on other drugs and stuff. Five states have already banned private prisons, which should destroy most corporate support for mass-incarceration (though drug bans have other obvious benefits for business). I really think we have a shot on this issue.
Graylight · 51-55, F
System. She wants to abolish an unjust system while creating reasonable alternatives to prison. We incarcerate more of our own citizens than any other country in the western hemisphere.

Of course, anyone who read her subsequent tweets would have understood this. I assume you haven't had time yet, because 'how else would anyone be so stupid?'
Ok no dont abolish ALL prisons BUT it's better to rework the system. Under capitalist ruling our prison system is some of the worst in the world. We have the largest prison population per capita, we have highest rate of people going back to prison within 20 years of getting out. We abuse prisoners for work practically making them slaves. In fact, theres a prison museum in Finland built as a way to show what prisons were like back then compared to now and they look very similar to our prisons
@sunsporter1649 heres a better idea, send you to prison so youd get an understanding on how hard the prison system is on everyone. I'd love to see you leave prison with a 20 dollar visa gift card to restart your whole life
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Mistakesmakeus Or maybe the Aleutians?
@sunsporter1649 you're missing the point. US prison systems are horribly abusive to its inmates because they're all about making profit not rehabilitating or safely keeping watch of all prisoners
Why don't you read her full remarks in that tweet from almost two years ago. She brings up some good points. She is suggesting that drug users, homeless people, the mentally ill, prostitutes, and people who can't afford to pay their traffic tickets and have not committed violent crimes not be put in jail. She's NOT advocating that murderers, rapists, and robbers go free.

ididntknow · 51-55, M
@quitwhendone five different links, and which are the news organisations, would they happen to be all liberal left wing media channels, maybe, cnn, msnbc, nbc, abc, etc, don’t you know they all work together, and all use the same narrative, and now have fact checking sites, to back them up, main stream media and big tech, are as one, the only way you can get true news, is to do your own research, and think for yourself, why are you idolising AOC, I’d be embarrassed, she’s an actress, really
@ididntknow None of the news organizations you mentioned are included in my list of sources. Reuters, Associated Press, USA today, Tampa Bay Times, and NY Times are the news organizations whose articles I used as sources and included in my list of links.

More importantly, I included the actual video recording of her remarks so you don't have to rely on any news reporting. View it yourself like I did. She clearly states she was in her office in the Cannon House Office Building hiding in her private office bathroom.

I thought that's where she wanted Trump to live
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
Did she really say that or is it more fake news from the fascist Right?
PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@stratosranger I posted the part of the tweet where she elaborates, saying we should reduce the amount of prisons, not eliminate them entirely. But believe what you want, be a good useful idiot.
Dumas? You’re done. You’re a moron. Prove you’re a moron by replying. @PrincessAwesome

PrincessAwesome · 22-25, F
@stratosranger If she was stupid, people wouldn't have to lie about what she says. You'd be able to use real quotes like with Trump.
@PrincessAwesome I can use a real quote from trump! Look at me go!
Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor
and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good
genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton
School of Finance, very good, very smart —you know, if
you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if,
like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m
one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s
true!—but when you’re a conservative Republican they
try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start
off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there,
went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to
give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little
disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the
thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy,
and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is
powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many
years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he
would explain the power of what’s going to happen and
he was right—who would have thought?), but when you
look at what’s going on with the four prisoners—now it
used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and
even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger;
fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they
haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now
than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about
another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators,
the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just
killed, they just killed us.
If that's not intelligent mm then idk what is
@PrincessAwesome Yes she tweeted this. Feel free to make more of a fool of yourself by defending this dummy.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Can a person really be this stupid?
Absolutely they can! Donald Trump, Gym Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Louie Gohmert, Kevin McCarthy, and legions of QAnon supporters prove it.
Budwick · 70-79, M
Well, they gotta make room for the white people, conservatives, bible thumpers, gun owners, straight people, deplorables, racists, Trump supporters and FOX employees.
She is that not really stupid, but naive and it is one her lesser qualities in the realm of intelligence and reality.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow We’re not talking about Romney a well to do politician.
@soar2newhighs And moving the goalposts. Because being a career politician born into wealth is the "real world". Maybe the MTV version. And I don't really care where she grew up. That is completely irrelevant. Unlike her critics she actually worked for a living.

Legalized? Nice fantasy. The feds completely ignore even the 2 states that have legalized it.

That is the point, keeping everyone in that prison would have killed massive numbers of people.

You were just criticizing that decision a minute ago.
@soar2newhighs Actually we are because pretty much everyone who criticizes her and calls her naive fit that same mold as Romney.
Lol, an article with no quotes, no sources and a bunch of fear mongering. Next.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
strip her and throw her in a prison with a bunch of rapists...

see how many seconds it takes to change her mind... 🤔
@wildbill83 um.. have you SEEN the meals they serve know prison? Have you SEEN the conditions of current prisons? Youd think twice about claiming it's a better life in there
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Mistakesmakeus You mean the prisons are overflowing with innocent victims?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Mistakesmakeus Better life than living in california.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Yes people are that stupid. And playing into the hands of leftist revolutionaries. They often will release prisoners when they want to overthrown the government. Prisoners are part of the lumpenproletariat that are useful idiots in revolutions. They can help create chaos and when the new leaders are installed they can be disposed of easily too.
curiosi · 61-69, F
She is a lib what would we expect but brainless nonsense.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
I’ve worked in the prison system. It’s useless and needs major changes. Only a few I’ve been to actually try to correct all others just waste space and create more crime
I can't fault someone for expressing ideas that are more recent than the founding of the country.
BalmyNites · F
The whole world is going this way - law makers have been discussing this for a long time behind the scenes
ididntknow · 51-55, M
How anyone can look up to AOC is beyond me, you’d have to be a moron, to look up to that
She’s just worried about where she and her cohorts are gonna be in a few years. Maybe if they get rid of the prisons now we won’t have anywhere to put them later.
ididntknow · 51-55, M
She’s a Marxist, look up Marxism and it’s aims, That will explain everything

To be fair, She didn't say that. She wants to stop building more ones and fund social programs that reduce violence.
@Human1000 YES STOP BUILDING JAILS not literally dismantle all jail systems and replace them with nothing! Jesus that's idiotic. I stand by her proposition of rehab so that we can have a lower prison population because we have too many people in there for stupid reasons
Human1000 · M
@Mistakesmakeus Crime and Punishment. Interesting topic. Why not try something new...
@Human1000 like rehabilitating those who dont deserve years in prison for a little drug usage? Or trying to help drug abusers or alcoholics return back to the population to live a better life and actually.. idk.. help the economy by getting an honest job and making a good living to then buy things that they want? Or do you believe that prisons being shut ins for anyone who breaks a small law so that the prisons get more money
